FIFA have to try to retain the integrity and quality of the competitions they run. Hence if a player refuses to play for his country when selected, they can impose domestic bans and fines and even deduct points from clubs for fielding what are now deemed ineligible players. However if a player has declared he has retired from International football, and does not want to be considered for selection in the future, then I don't think FIFA have the right to force them - that would be a human rights violation and in contravene about 27 different labour laws !
Even if player just refuses to play, and does not 'retire', still they shouldn't have the power or right to ban the player from other competitions. I mean, of course, that's not the case, but think it should be. Of course, he'd probably be hated by half his nation, and never be called upon again, but that's his choice.

I would generally agree with that. However it's FIFA, not a byword for fairness.

Haha well it's most certainly is not 'perfectly legal' but I do agree with the rest of your post, I'd be furious is one of our players didn't do the same in that situation and the United player had gone on to score. I've said elsewhere though that they really need to stamp down on this .. I know they are trying but a Yellow means nothing when an almost certain goal-scoring opportunity is at stake.
By legal I meant not cheating, IE a cheap shot instead. Would you not say a red is too harsh in such a scenario? If the last man gets a red, doesn't adding a red to 3 v 3s, 3 v 2s increase the complexity where it's not a clear goal scoring opportunity and the last man has taken him down?

Is there anything he doesn't moan about?
To be fair, we haven't heard him moan about how his tactically superior, and visually attractive brand of football hasn't brought him a goal from open play in 270 minutes of football.

No harm done. Win a poor tie with mostly kids. Get the plane back. It never really felt like a traditional cup tie, Plymouth were ok but couldn't get on the ball enough to make it a nervous finish.

So does Matip have to wait till Cameroon drop out of afcon/win it before he is eligible to play?
"During the dispute". If I am not mistaken, Cameroon FA can drag this out even after African CoN ended, and Matip was not eligible to play games for L'pool until the case is closed.

I don't think that's the case, Cameroon also have to adhere to FIFA's commands. Since FIFA are to discuss the case this Friday, and it seems open and shut, hopefully there will be resolution onFriday.

Why would it involve Matip not playing for Liverpool after the tournament? Is this reported anywhere?

I am sure it will be simple.

Also sure none of this is in any way affected by the vp of fifa being from Cameroon. This is the new and reformed fifa after all.

The goal line tech thing wasn't needed.

Video replays for fouls and offside are more important. Heard somewhere they're testing it.

It was needed, it's been able to determine plenty of dubious goals. Video replays for fouls and offsides would be too far, just when a goal/sending off comes into it.

Good job Liverpool. You've converted Klopp into a conspiracy theorist. He's now truly one of you.

Offside rule is fine, it does it's job and I wouldn't want it to change. Maybe technology can help but it's still always going to remain subjective. Ether that or people need to change their conspiracy mindset. When some calls aren't given, they aren't given, people need to move on and accept that it will happen. TV channels need to stop repeating and over-analyzing it.

You'd have to be a bit obsessed to give that kind of answer to that question. Weirdo.

Starting to come across as obsessed and looked a bit unhinged in that spat with Mourinho on Sunday.

Klopp makes a joke at a press conference and people come streaming in here talking about how he's whining, spouting conspiracy theories, or how he's having a meltdown. :houllier:

That is the third time he has had a snidey comment about us post-match. First time was the post match interview for Sky, then the radio and now this. So it isn't like it is us bringing it up time and time again, it is him that still a week later must sneak his bitter delusions in there.

Fecker should just let it go and count himself lucky they got away with a point. Judging from his post match comments you should believe we were pinned against the wall, resorting to only long balls under the mighty pool pressure and had to rely on the ref to get us a point.

We should get over it? Yeah, he should fecking get over it.
