That's pretty much exactly what he is, has played by far the least out of Mata, Rashford, Micki, Martial and him. :)
I made a post talking about their goals yesterday so looked at their league minutes...by far the least?

League goals for them

Mata - 6 (1400 mins)
Rashford - 3 (1330 mins)
Martial - 3 (980 mins)
Mkhitaryan - 3 (990 mins)
Rooney - 2 (1000 mins)
Lingard - 1 (940 mins)
Total - 18
Ibrahimovic - 16

You do realise that there's a reason that only very very few players that come through our academy to become regulars like Lingard? And when they do, it's not because they were "blessed".
I can't think of a bigger blessing in life to be honest..

17 appearances as opposed for 21, 22 and 22 for Mkhitarian, Rashford and Martial so he's not as much a backup player as I'd like. I do think he has a place in the team.

Don't know why on earth would league minutes only be counted? We've won one trophy and seems more and more likely that our only path to CL is via a non-PL competition. Minutes in full:

Micki 1741
Mata 2417
Lingard 1464
Martial 1868
Rashford 2252

This says more about the Premier League than anything.

Lingard netting himself £100k sure seems absurd when you contrast it with that of the salaries elsewhere in Europe.

(Aubameyang at Dortmund...£50k per week)

We paid the likes of Ashley Young, Depay, and Schneiderlin that much and paid the likes of Schweinsteiger and Rooney double that to sit on the bench. 100k is completely fair and probably a bit on the low end given how good he will become in the coming years.
Oh come on, young was an english national and depay was on 90k(best player in dutch league and top scorer), Schniderlin was on 80k by all accounts.
To put this in perspective, these are wages of players as per a google search-
Mata -150k
Mkhi-150k
Martial-90k
Rashford-75k(he doesnt even deserve that)
Darmian -50k
Carrick-100k
Herrera-100K
Looks like we pay players for being shit, look at rooney and bastian for the same.

Rooney has more minutes than Martial and Mkhitarian?

Because the post was made yesterday when we were talking about the lack of league goals

To me minutes tell more of a story than appearances, as you can theoretically play 10mins in each game meaning in terms of appearances you'd look like a 1st option, but in minutes clearly like a squad player.

If true, this is a bit high, but buying a squad player would be 15-20m.. and the wages would be around 100k on top of that..

Young cost 16m with 1 year left on his contract..

Lingard is fine. Not the problem. We can afford those wages. Letting him go and getting a replacement squad player wouldnt be cheaper.

Yeah but this is a club who as recently as January were paying 750k/wk on players who were either on the bench or didn't even make the bench (Rooney, Schmidfield, Depay, Young etc).
Oh, you are right and Pogue too(don't tell him that), but I can't get used to these wages for squad players. For example, if it's in gross that's the same wage than Umtiti or Ter Stegen.

Every team has average players. I don't get this assumption that we should only have an 18 man squad of world class players. No club in the world has ever had that.

Chelsea have players like Willian and Alonso starting. Arsenal have numerous average players as do City and Spurs.

Lingard would be a squad player at any of these clubs.
My point was him not deserving anything close to 100k/week. It would be harder to sell him(if we have to) as no one will buy him with those wages.

£100k a week for an bang average player who isn't good enough. Jesus Christ.

Can anyone put me in touch with Lingard's agent? I need to meet this miracle worker.

That's because none of them is good enough for a club whose seriously competing on three fronts. Oh well, next season Carrick will probably come out saying that he felt guilty taking money out of the club when it was clearly that he's not good enough for us anymore and we'll be treating him like some sort of hero for saying that.
Nonsense. No club has world class players at every position. Every club needs experienced players and younger players it has developed. This is nothing more than creating continuity through experience.

I think a team would. A HG quota player, plus we just offloaded Schneiderlin and Memphis for really good fees, both presumably on high wages.

So an academy product being able to establish a semi regular position in our squad is all you need for a 100k a week contract these days at man utd then? Good job Kieran Richardson didn't break through 10 years into the future..

100k for a squad player is ridiculous. He'd probably have stayed if we paid him half of that, it's completely unnecessary and a waste of money.

I don't care whether or not Young played for the mighty Ingerland. He was a good player at Villa and Fergie liked what he saw and bought him.

The wage for Lingard is spot on for what the club expects of him.

That's going to make it a bit harder to flog him to Sunderland/Hull/West Brom at some point in the next few years.

No, he is to be paid what he deserves, it doesnt mean if we offloaded Two players we give him more, we dint offload bastian and pay rooney more cause that wont make sense. HG quota and all that shit does not matter. He is not a 100k/week player in any way possible.

I'm guessing he wouldn't otherwise the club would of offered half of that.
Then we should have flogged him and bought someone cheaper, it's not like we'd miss him. The state of the club is partly down to leniency like this. Ashley Young on 130k a week for being on the bench, ditto Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger on 200k a week. Ain't good enough.

He deserves what the club say he deserves, not what random fans on the internet think because they're jealous footballers make a lot more money than them.

100k? I don't believe it. Sky reports have to be taken with a big pinch of salt these days.

I agree with your overall point although I'm not sure why you've classed Willian in Lingard's category. If you think Lingard is on Willian's level then you're a bit deluded.

In fairness you're probably not as deluded as me when I chose my username though.

Great stuff! English, commited to United and a great player. Absolutely need guys like him in the squad.
If he was committed to united, he wouldnt be asking for 100k to stay. He is probably laughing to the bank.

That's true, papers doubled Shaw's wage for a good year, for example.
Perfect example, they'll use wages pre-tax for players which can cause division/controversy like Shaw for example because it fits with the 'worlds most expensive teenager' story.

Yeah has any other journo been reporting this ? No one at MEN for instance?
Not so far I believe, and any other time Sky are seen as unreliable, so i'll wait for the club to announce that he's actually negotiated a deal first.

I think people who think he deserves 100k a week, would happy to give brown, o shea, Phill neville etc 100k, if they were playing today.
