Duncan Castles says its on!
Agreed. He usually tweets his article but I don't think he's tweeted this one, so not too sure what he says?! But if Dunc says it's on, then it's on. Even at €200m, the merchandise/marketing department will just see £ € $ signs, followed by a figure withe lots of zeros after it!

Maybe Real think it's a good time to sell and are naive enough to think Mbappe can replace Ronaldo.

Not likely.

As much as I would love to see him back at United, if he did leave Madrid (I remain doubtful) PSG seems a better fit. Bags of money, already strong team and he would score bucketfuls of goals in a weaker french league

I not even going to pretend to not get involved in this one, just jumping in balls deep and let the tears come if they may.

Yup. But that would be money well spent.
Oh I'd certainly love Ronaldo over players who are still developing, we have enough of those in:

-Rashford
-Martial
-Shaw
-Lindelof
-Pereira
-TFM
-Tuanzebe

We need people who can help those develop.

The club is surprised by the manners/behavior of Cristiano, they won´t pay the fine nor revise the contract
I thought the fine was already paid? What am I missing here?
And why is that slowing down our deal for Morata?
Seriously, all those topics should be independent if Real Madrid is that surprised by the manners/behaviors of Ronaldo.

I still think he just wants Madrid to come out strong and get the tax thing settled. He wants to be declared innocent for his reputation, it's not solely about the money he'd lose. I don't know if Madrid have that type of power though.

That said, Ronaldo is like a girlfriend who always needs attention. He will act out and say stupid things he doesn't mean in order for you to show them how much you love them. I still think he's just throwing a hissy fit and Madrid will fix it enough to keep him.
Ronaldo doesn't handle his own taxes that's for sure, yes he's ultimately responsible and should punished but he's going to be looking for someone to blame and it with be either his agent or Madrid. I think it's obvious at the moment who he blames for being in this situation.

The issue is if Madrid don't have the influence / ability to make sure Ronaldos reputation doesn't take a hit then what happens. I think someone as dedicated to building a legacy as a true legend of the game wouldn't want that reputation tarnished, if he does blame Madrid for putting that in jeopardy then I think he would find it difficult staying with them. Especially if the rumours are true that he is bordering on a prison sentence if found guilty, this could compound the issue.

The other side of the story - from madrids point of view I'm sure there will be people who think it might not be a bad idea if he left now.

Get a big transfer fee, invest in mbappe, distance themselves from being associated with this tax evasion charge and try to protect the brand.

It´s paid but now Cristiano wants the money back. If he really wants to go, we would be losing 2 options in attack.I guess that for the sport plan they really need to know what is going on

Just feck off.

I had a more insighful post typed out and a rebuke to this annual bullshit story, but actually this basically sums up my thoughts.

Even if I don't think he's coming (he's not) I'd rather be a muppet for this than go back to reality where our other deals are stalling and nothing interesting is happening.

So basically, in just few weeks, we lost out on Griezmann, gave a helping hand to Nainggolan with his contract negotiations, having a decent drag of a saga in Morata, while being linked with Perisic and now you're telling me Castles thinks we're in for Ronaldo. I won't live to see the start of the season if this goes on! :houllier::lol:

I think you're the only person on here who'd rather have those 3 over Ronaldo.
It does seem that way. If we signed Ronaldo, I couldn't see him having the same effect without Modric, Isco and Kroos in behind. We'd also need someone like Benzema alongside to act as foil. We don't move the ball around in midfield with the same vigor and system as Real Madrid. Aubameyang is possibly good for 25 goals in the PL. The others could help us to set up our attacks. The only real creative force we have in midfield is Pogba. If he's kept quiet or is being rested our creativity level is zero. Altogether non-existent.

He knows what Mendes tells him. Or at least he says what Mendes tells him to say.

As Ronaldo's agent it is obviously beneficial to for there to be pressure on Real Madrid to give into his demands, particularly since Ronaldo is in an otherwise weak negotiating position.

Duncan Castles reporting it now?

Shit just got Real people!!

(Pun intended)
He's reporting our interest in him.

We'd be moronic as a club if we didn't at least entertain the idea of resigning him. The story means nothing.

If he said "bid for" or "negotiating with Madrid" then I would be excited.

People here always argue in other threads, who is better, Messi or Ronaldo, and then there is a slim chance we might resign Ronaldo.
The result.... the Cafe loses their shit and some say he is not worth it?
Feck me!
This place sometimes.
He is a prime athlete and will clearly be until at least 36 years old, that's 4 years people, well worth it in my opinion.
Sign him up man.

That Pogba transfer thread was insane.

Just think how insane this would be if it was happening.

This, absolutely.

There's no chance he's moving back here at 32 - too cold, league too physical and too competitive, no glamour (compared to Paris). Just no chance.

He'll stay at Madrid or go to PSG.

Just don't get why everyone is so hyped with these reports. I can't see him leaving Madrid and IF he goes do we really want him here at the prices being reported?

I'd rather we go all out for Mbappe and a top DM, then Ronnie, and that's pains me to write that.

On the other hand just getting him we will become overnight contenders for the PL and maybe the CL.

I fecking hate sillly season!!!!

So the more I think about it the more I truly believe he is actually leaving madrid.

If cope is right and Madrid will not give him a pay rise (which they shouldn't after giving him one last year) and they won't offer to pay his tax bill, then that suggests Madrid is open to the idea of cashing in imo. They have just won their 3rd CL in 4 years and even without Ronaldo arguably have the best team in Europe, I'm sure if they sign Mbappe/Hazard they will remain favorites.

Ronaldo is as everyone knows 33 next February. With Madrid desperately wanting Mbappe they can easily sign him with the funds they would receive for selling Ronaldo. If there has ever been a time to cash in for him it is now, as he is the best in the world and is on course for his 5th?? Balon D'Or. And even though he will probably continue to be clinical and class for the next 3 or more years, it may be the last chance they can expect a world record fee for him with talents like Mbappe, Demebele and even Neymar possibly moving on in the near future.

I wouldn't be surprised if Madrid are starting to become fed up with his "I'm sad" stories coming up every other year and now in light of this tax allegation and the points mentioned above have become open to idea of Selling him and replacing him with Mbappe. Madrid doesn't seem like the club to let a player set out into the sunset and retire, they need to have that new shiny toy. And to me they have acted like someone in a relationship wanting out.. not giving the other person attention with the hope that they end it so you don't look like the ass.

We all know Ronaldo still loves United and is still to this day a supporter of the club, as he said during the 2015 balon d'Or ceremony. I'm sure if he leaves United will be his preferred choice. Now if mendes has told United and other clubs he is available and is in fact looking for a move then that seems to be true, as mendes is starting to lose his influence after losing Falcao and if I'm not mistaken other high profile players. His 2 star clients are Ronaldo and Jose, would he risk jeopardizing his relationship with Jose by blatantly lying to him about Ronaldo's availability? Given the rumours of Gestifute culpability in this tax case, and the possible friction between Cris and mendes as a consequence of that, would mendes risk losing both Mourinho and Ronaldo? I think not.

So I reckon this might just happen this time. It's Reals last chance to cash in the big bucks for Ronaldo and go and buy the next great talent in Mbappe. Ronaldo is once again The story of the summer and is satisfied, plus he makes an emotional return "home" and guides us to further success. It would further enhance Ronaldo's legacy if he comes back to United and probably single handedly brings back the glory days to old Trafford.... even if that's for a couple of seasons. His ego wouldn't be satisfied by tearing up ligue 1 with a sugar daddy club imo.

All while Real are enjoying their new star Mbappe And continue to win things. At the end of the day, Ronaldo is not bigger than Real Madrid and even more so now he that he is 32... I think Madrid see that now as well.

I don't think anyone actually thinks he's coming back at this stage.

But of course we want him back if it's actually on. We would be instant favourites for the league next year.

And Mbappe isn't coming here, whether we fork out the money or not.

The moon gave me flowers for funerals to come.
Think if it was just a case of wanting Madrid to pay his tax, this likely wouldnt have blown up in the press as it has. It would have been agreed behind doors because I can't see real wanting to loose him over 13-15 million. Even if it did get out like this to the press it would have been quickly denied by a higher up in Madrid or Ronaldo himself.

There's Definitely something more going on behind the scenes than money- either wanting Madrid to take the blame for the tax evasion or wanting their political influence to get off the charge.

Could be something so simple as not feeling supported by Madrid as much as he should be, which I could easily believe especially with Mendes trying to sell Ronaldo that story.
WTF are the Sun thinking with that picture of Ronaldo just about to spit ?

I'm desperately trying not to get suckered in because I've seen this all too many times before. I am 99.99% certain that in July I'll be reading how the differences have been patched up and Ronaldo is 100% committed to the Real cause, loves the club and can't wait for another season under Zizou.

That 00.01% though, right?
Its not even about getting sucked in.

The transfer fee numbers being floated are fiscally irresponsible and it would be an act of utter stupidity for smart moneymen like Woodward or the Glazers to risk £150m+ on a 33 year old player.

I just don't think it's worth the risk or the short term gratification and woild rather we gave those funds to Spurs for Kane & Alli or tried for Neymar or Hazard. All of them would be available for the kind of money that is being mentioned.
