Can we have hope for a greater trick: winning treble and keeping Jones fit at the same time?

We had high standard from having Vidic and Rio, not long ago. People just failed to realize having that standard is abnormal, let alone maintain and have successors for it. Even the best defense, CBs at the moment look pale in comparison to Vidic and Rio together at their peak
Strong correlation between those 2 if Jones keep performing well ;). Man mark job on Messi and Ronaldo coming in the champions league final and semi final ;).

He is our #1 defender at this point. Him and Bailly seem to be working very well together.

I said it when people were crying fowl about him, that he was when fit the best defender we have. That was before we even had Bailly. He is like Vidic or Terry. The big problem is he keeps getting injured.

He's making a strong case to having a more respectable thumbnail image like Fellaini.

Not many centre backs are entertainers. Phil just ticks all the boxes.

Please stay fit!

I like the CB rotation so far tbh, keeping Jones fresh for the league and giving him recovery periods.

Would surely have been reported if he was injured, think it'll be a rest, probably being cautious with him due to his previous record

He is not in the squad for cska match and i read somewhere that it is maybe injury. But as i said apparently. I was to quick to comment without thinking is it true or not. My bad
I think Mou mentioned before that they were being careful with Jones injury-wise? With Lindelof an option in Europe it might just be that we're giving Jones extra recovery time.

One of the luxuries that bringing in another CB in the summer bought us.

No worries. Just curious where the rumour is coming from. Seen loads of speculation on twitter but no definite mention of him having an injury. We already know Mou wants to give Lindelof games in the CL so maybe he thought 3 specialist centre backs was enough to travel with? 4, if you include Tuanzebe.

MEN lists Jones and Valencia as 'rested.' Mourinho said that Jones has been managing an ankle problem since August.

Best to wait for confirmation pal, don’t think many were expecting him to be involved. Think we’re managing him very carefully. But let’s wait and see! Fingers crossed he’s fine.

That's why it's called a 'team' game, setup correctly players that struggle in one setup can flourish in another.

Jones and Rojo have both performed well under Mourinho and long may it continue.

Lets hope hes just fine and hes not travelling just because Mou doesnt wanna force him to 2-3 matches a week

Also lets not forget how the caf starts calling him shit when he goes on an injury run and easily forgets for example this solid start of the season. Its not hard to see why he havent been sold by now despite his rollercoaster fitness

Hopefully it's just a knock or a rest.
My guess is that he's being managed. I seem to slightly remember Mourinho saying something about having to be careful with Jones because of his injury record.

From what Mourinho said in the post match interview he's likely out for the Palace game, hopefully he can rest up over the international break.

feck this. Just when you started to think he could maybe get a run of games. At least he stays fit longer than Kompany ;).

How did he get injured? For some reason, I have this thought that Smalling injured him last game :nervous:

Haha totally possible. Those two should never be on the pitch at the same time. But the injury doesn't seem too serious. I'll be really pissed off if England choose him in the squad. Just give him a rest! He'll be back after the international break.

Good he is back. People forget that Jones a few seasons ago (whe he was fit) was considered one of the best center backs in the world.

I don't think there's ever been a point in time when Jones was considered one of the best centre backs in the world.

I don't think he was ever classed as one of the best CBs in the World.
He was one of the best prospects who needed to realise his potential, but he never actually realised it, due to injury. Much like we are seeing with Shaw, right now.

I've said this before, but it bears repeating:

The 3 best defences of the last 30 years (Milan in the 90s, Chelsea in the early 00s and United in the late 00s) were created by Capello, Mourinho and Ferguson. All three love(d) Jones, and played him whenever he was fit. One of them compared him to Baresi and another said he could be one of the best players to ever pull on a United shirt.

Disagree all you like, but when those three concur on an opinion you oppose, you're probably wrong.

Jones is a fecking great player whose reputation has been sullied by memes.

To be fair he was barely 20 when Fergie was here and looked like he had great potential, played three different positions and was solid in all of them. Problem is he's been mostly injured ever since and has failed to develop as many predicted he would and while he still has the time to get better, I doubt he will reach the heights he had initailly been tipped to reach.

Add me into the mix and you've got four of the greatest football geniuses in history all saying the same thing.

What a great run of games without injury that was for him. Guess we’ll see him again next season!
