So so good. The only full back who naturally looks like he can support our attack and can beat a man. The complete opposite of Valencia taking ages to ponder and then passing it back.

Loved his energy and his aggressive tackles. Multiple times i watched him ahead of Martial and it felt nice to see our defenders so high up the pitch.

He's been good in like 3 games during his United career. Granted, he had a horrific injury but I don't want him to stay. I don't want him to take up wages and squad space that could be filled by someone much better. Just the way it is.
I don't want to read any more of your posts. Just the way it is...

Keep a clean shit tomorrow, United is my final bus
I don't think the opinion was ever 'he's shit', but there were large question marks over his attitude, application and fitness. Piping up in hindsight after he's had 2 decent games still doesn't change that long-term. I guess this is encouraging so far from a United point of view, though.
No some said he's shit, which was just as stupid a thing to say then as it would be now.

Good timing to get back in Mourinhos good books.

Should alternate with Young for the next few weeks which can only help us having a fresh full back each game.

Seemed to be a good few words between Mourinho and Shaw when he came off. Good sign though don't think we'll see him start a game again until Bristol.

Nah. There’s loads of posts saying he’s shit. Or just as bafflingly that he has had more terrible games than good ones since he got here. Probably because Jose had a pop at him after a couple of poor results

Another good building block for him, 80+ minutes in a PL game on a night of horrid weather conditions and the team playing shite he did well.

Jose: "I am not saying he is first or second choice, Luke Shaw is an option. People forget his history, a hard history with an incredible injury and more surgery last season. "I liked the standing ovation he got, it only helps the player."

Well it's good Jose is not getting carried away like some people in this thread. I realise I sound like I have problem with Luke Shaw but its been one of those 'if not one thing it's the other' with him. Eventually you lose patience.

Likewise.

Hopefully this is the start of Shaw turning his United career around. It's probably last chance saloon for him to do so.

Looks like he is in Jose's good books after the tunnel bust up vs City.

Absolutely, if he does turn it around, I'm sure every single fan will be delighted. It's clear the talent is there.

Looking good for him - if he keeps up this level he may save us £50 million - until the summer at least.

Also: feck that cnut Moreno who got him injured in the first place.

Where's all the posters that said he's just shit?
Let's not get ahead of ourselves, it was encouraging for sure but he's got a long way to go before "he makes it". A long way to go to even prove he can stay fit for more then a month. IF he does, and it's still a big if, then we've sorted out our left back spot obviously which would be great for us.

Of course. He's also making a point to those who've been critical of Shaw a fair bit:

People forget his history, a hard history with an incredible injury and more surgery last season.
Yes, as annoying as Shaw's record has been under us he has had two bad injuries that were out of his control. The events of the first season with his fitness were down to him, but before his second season started he took a fitness coach from the club with him on holiday and as a result started the second season strongly before the leg break which ruled him out of the rest of his second season.

Just have to hope now that he doesn't get another injury this season and can stay fit. His time not in the squad seems to have done him good - maybe needed more time to recovery from that surgery he had last season? - and he seems to be playing with a purpose now, which he wasn't when he was playing for the U23s. I really thought it'd take him longer to get up to speed but he's been fine and is playing closer to how we know he can.

Yeah. I agree with all of that. I just wish we would sort the LB position one way or another as quickly as possible. Whether, it's Shaw, Sandro or Rose.

Well, of course, I'd prefer it to be Shaw but we will have to wait and see if he can build on this. Hopefully he does. I'll keep an open mind for now.

Just 3 games.

Nice exaggeration right there.

I would love for Shaw to stay and become the player we all thought he could be. But i honestly don't believe this is anything but putting him in the shop window

Well it is exaggerated. I concede that but he also hasn't impressed in many. For various reasons, and some through no fault of his own - his time has been very underwhelming at United. There is no doubt about. If he can kick on, then great. If not, lets move on a sign someone who will add real quality to our left hand side.

Shaw was excellent tonight. I'd given up hope with him but if he can continue to perform consistently at that level he will be a fantastic option in the squad.

There was one cross in the second half that he hit with fantastic pace and shape. It was slightly overhit and went beyond Lukaku but someone who can provide service like that gives the attack a new dimension.

What happened?
He was one of the group, behind the bare chested Rojo, who stormed towards the City dressing room, to prevent more milk being thrown at his boss José Mourinho.

I was quite taken by that too. If he was pissed with Mourinho, maybe he wouldn't have joined in to defend him from the City hoardes. Shows that he feels passionate about his club and manager.

He did well tonight. Decision whether to buy a new left back can wait til summer. Really hope he can re-establish himself by then as it saves us a massive chunck of money as well as justifies our patience with him.

Can we finally give José a break with the treatment he gives to players? It's not the first time it's working! Shaw is improving under it.

Whether Mourinho wants him or not, his last two performances show that he shouldn’t be sold. Worst case, just loan him out until Mourinho goes, to avoid another KDB/Salah/Bertrand-Chelsea scenario.

Such a predicament with Shaw. He has so much potential but it’s almost definitely just a matter of time before he gets hurt again and we start all over. I almost think that we still need someone slightly older like Rose to come in and give Shaw time to mature but that’s just way too expensive when we’ve got other positions to worry about filling as well.

Best performance he's put in under Jose by a country mile. We could have done with him against City playing like that. Just needs to show it isn't a one off now and that he's capable of performing to something like that level regularly.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
I didn't get to watch much of the first half and watched none of the second half. Sounds like I was better off.

Did Shaw play well enough to make everyone flip their top if he doesn't start Sunday?
I doubt he'll start two games in a row anytime soon. I expect he and Young will alternate, with Young being preferred in bigger matches atm (although that may change if Shaw continues playing well). What I am hoping, and what I expected to happen this match, is that sometimes they will both play and Valencia will get a rest.

Very much like Ferdinand said in his recent comments about getting the focus and determination right after he got to play for United.

This is it Luke, ignore all distractions and work hard to be a proper United player for years to come!

Never easy to say with Jose, but feel somehow that he sees potential in him and has been waiting for his attitude to improve to the point where he can be trusted. His language has evolved when speaking of Shaw - from dismissive, to encouraging and how clearly supportive. I'm glad to see it. I had reluctantly written off Shaw mentally after that bizarre reserves performance, but he seems to be kicking on. Let's hope he stays...and Mourinho too.

Can we finally give José a break with the treatment he gives to players? It's not the first time it's working! Shaw is improving under it.
Absolutely. If Shaw can kick on (and he can only get better - defenders improve constantly and rapidly at this age), we know how good he can be for us and for ages. Of course, also saves money we can spend on areas that are in desperate need - RB, RW, 10 etc...

Exactly. I'm a fan of Mourinho's tough love approach towards underperforming players. We really shouldn't be pampering these grown professional adults too much. They are all paid hundreds of thousands per week to do their job ffs, step up your game or rot in the reserves!

The rest of the season will define Shaw's United career. If he can stay fit and produce performances like that I would be quite happy with Valencia,Young ,Shaw and Mensah as our fullbacks next season.

I think the end is near of Darmian and Blind.

Shaw hasn't been great but he is still better than the other options we put at Lb.

Young, Blind and Darmian. They are hardly world beaters or even solid regularly either so I might as well invest time in Shaw.
