Question for you Liverpool fans.

If you were offered a top 4 finish every season so for the next 5-6 years but with no silverware, would you take it?
No. That’d be one trophy in something like 17 years.

I’d take top four this year but if Klopp hasn’t won anything by the end of next season then questions should be asked.

Liverpool will really struggle to replace what Coutinho gives them. I don't see performances dropping off as much as when Suarez left, but wouldn't be surprised if they go through a phase of lots of dropped points whilst they transition again.

Keita may help add a bit more dynamism from a deeper position, but Coutinho he is not.
Depends on how replaceable you think he is. How easy is it to find a player that can match Coutinho’s contribution?

Obviously I’d rather we keep him but that’s very unlikely at this point.

I'm sure you said the exact same thing last season.

I probably did to be fair, but I’m allowed to change my mind. I can’t really think of anyone better we could get in, and we did at least get back into the Champions League last season. That’s progress for a club that has mostly been stuck in mid table since 2009.

I enjoy watching Liverpool play as well so I’m fine with Klopp as manager at the moment.

He needs to win something soon though.

To answer your question in simple yes or no its an obvious yes.

But i find it really hard to digest that under klopp playing champions league every season and we wont win anything. We missed europa by 2 goals and league cup buy just a penalty in his first half season. Considering the hypothetical situation, if klopp is there and regular champions league is there i think we wont have players like lovren, moreno, mignolet in the team that are really holding us back.

I think I agree with this, if Klopp is still at 'pool when Guardiola leaves City in 2 or 3 seasons time I think you'll might be close to winning the league in the 2 seasons or so after that. You've some decent defenders coming though and (i'd expect) he'd have improved the goalkeeper and defenders but then you'll have to still have retained players of the caliber of Salah and Mane and if you haven't won anything in the next 2 season they may be looking to get out.

*reading that back it makes no sense on the screen but I think I know what I mean, it's a bit of a paradox, you should, you might but you probably won't

Klopp is the best manager that we have had since Benitez. We play attractive, attacking football and it would seem for now that we have tightened up at the back.
We don't lose at Anfield much these days (City are due a visit in January so we'll see how that goes) and he's lifted us from a 6/7th placed team to proper top 4 contenders in a relatively short period of time.
There are flaws with him as there are with anyone, but he's only been in the job 2 years and we're in a much better place than when he took over.
I agree with some other posters that he has got to win something soon though. We've been to 2 finals, qualified for Champions League and won our group but silverware is what our club is (at least should be) about. An FA Cup would be great but for this season, I'd take another top 4 finish. Next season, I would really want to see a trophy otherwise questions may start being asked.

I don't think you can expect him to be winning either the EPL or Champions League with the squad he currently has. A title challenge or run into the semi's would be a great achievement for him. The only competitions left are the two cups where he already plays weaker teams at the start in order to focus more on getting into the top 4.

I don't think he should be judged solely on the basis of how many trophies he's winning, Liverpool have to think about the long run and no one can say Liverpool haven't improved under Klopp and looked their best since 2013-14. Right now the Premier League is as strong as it has been since the late 00's and expecting Klopp to be winning trophies during this time with the squad he has (when compared to the rest) is unfair.

It's tough to look at Liverpool winning the Premier League or Champions League in the coming years, unless they manage to unearth a Suarez like player. What they can hope for is a consistent top 4 spot, so that they can continue to attract good players, and wish upon a season where the better squads struggle (like in 15-16).

This. Very sensible.

All the calls for 'Klopp has to win something' are BS and unrealistic. It could happen of course but are the FAC or LC actually worth much in terms of prestige now ? Look at Arsenal, two wins didn't bring them any greater respect or make them any more attractive to prospective transfer targets. The PL and CL are pretty much all that matters.

I agree with this. Steady improvement, with consistent top 4 finishes is what Liverpool should be looking to achieve and at the moment Klopp is just doing that. The question is; how many years down the line do you re-evaluate your goals and start to change from just wanting top 4 or putting in a title challenge; to wanting to win prestigious silverware? Genuine question, because Klopp will have to win something major someday.

First of all its a complete hypothetical situation that we wont win anything.

Secondly I believe sure klopp doesn't have the money backing like pep or jose but he is pretty good at assembling a squad. he might take 1-2 transfer windows more ...but he can bring in quality. His record at Dortmund and Liverpool prooves it. Lewandowski, Aubameyang, mane , salah....to name a few. So i would be least worried about the players. who leaves who stays or who comes in asa new signing, i think he can manage it pretty good.

The way he talked about it, both Mane and Salah were players who'd been scouted by BvB while he was there...

Wonder if liverpool's scouts and DoF are as good as BvB's. Klopp isn't Benitez, he doesn't decide who to sign on his own, he doesn't have his own scouts, and liverpool's current structure seems to be more "continental", meaning Klopp doesn't have final say on transfers iirc

Klopp has stated that unequivocally he has the last say on who we sign. A variety of sources can suggest players though.

I dont know if you support Liverpool or not buy anyway are you really believing that?

Its obvious klopp is often downplayed in rival forum (even though klopp was their first choice when he was available) but for ffs he is no David moyes or a new bee like rodgers that he will just gulp it up anything that is served to him without saying a word.

His first year he didnt signed a single player? How would that turn out if he had no say in transfers? Sure the Liverpool board wont say to klopp that we are in a mid-season mess (8th) and we want you on board...but we wont give you any signing? Its obvious it was his choice.

Again with vvd saga, we all know whos decision it was not to have back up for vvd. Surely the board wont be so hell bent on one single player ...if klopp had no say they would have moved on from vvd long ago.

There are enough proofs in our transfer doings that klopp is the one who pulls the plug. He wants the guy he ask the club to go for him. If that particular player isnt available ....then full stop, no second grade replacements. I know it can be argued that not to have a backup is stupidity and thas why we are 4th .. had we moved on from vvd may be we wouldn't have dropped 9 points from winning position. But it has its benefits too. We are bringing in first team quality players and not just buying for the sake of it. Mane, salah, Ox, keita, matip all these signings are improving us.

So throwing bottle is fine along as long as he doesn't kick it?

Let down badly by Gomez for the first goal. Lazy, lazy defending but he's not normally a culprit. That gave Arsenal the momentum.

That throwing bottle alone is enough seen as a offence for 4th official for me. It was over the top and disgusting. Honestly, when enough is enough for Klopp actually? He made Jose looks like a Saint. I genuinely believe if Liverpool ever be a champion under him, he will actually got a heart attack out of excitement of that.

Tactically, nothing new. If Liverpool ever want to be a real tittle contender, that entire backline and goalkeeper need an overhaul and massive slap on their face. For all glamorous attacking line they have, their defensive departement will always hold them back.

Did Klopp just say that Liverpool always are the better team, even when they draw or loose?

Indeed. Arsenal were nullified completely except for their third goal. Gomez completely switches off and fecks up what should be a simple clearance for the first goal, and Mignolet makes a huge gaffe of a 35 yard shot which is straight at him. Klopp's tactics weren't the problem here.

The tactical joke was in his substitutions. He bought on a midfielder for an attacker when the score was 3-3, so he wanted to protect the draw??? Why not bring on a midfielder when they are in the lead, or bring on an attacker to push for the win.

It was obvious that the game was way too open for Liverpool, their lead was not being protected. So instead of making a sub to change the game he let Arsenal have their way with the Liverpool defense.

I said this before. It is not just the back four and defensive MF. (Ok their goaly is rubbish; they need a new goaly, yes.) It is 1 to 11. Their whole system is flawed, in that it is attack minded. When we went two up against Arsenal, we kept defending with 10, sometimes 11 men behind the ball. When liverpool were two up, they still kept their front three attacking and not defending. This means, when Arsenal attack, they have more space.

Salah, Firmino and Mane were not defending on occasions.

Spot on.

Liverpool are a good team to watch, but I can bet every penny in my pocket that they will never win any thing as long as Klopp is managing them. They're just a good team to watch for neutrals. That's the best Klopp will achieve with that system.

Exactly. Klopp went to a 4-5-1 way too late in the game. He should have dropped Salah and Mane to make a 5 in midfield and leave Firminho up top when they went 2-0 up. Arsenal were going to attack all out after Liverpool's 2nd goal, so get the extra bodies in. Arsenal walked through their midfield for their 3rd goal.

Hope the water bottle is ok.

Seriously though, Mignolet is a joke. Surely the #2 isn't worse (is he?). If I were a Liverpool supporter I would be disheartened and annoyed that this problem hasn't been addressed.

Arsenal didn't have their way with the defence. They had and scored from 3 shots on target all game, two of which were from huge individual errors.

How does today point towards the system being flawed when Arsenal were completely nullified for 90% of the game? How does Gomez leaving his man at the far post and Mignolet making an error say anything about the system?
