It looks inevitable that he will leave. I hope that the board is prudent, and we loan him out for 18 months to serie A and he can wait out Mourinho there.
Lukaku, De Bruyne, Salah. If he wants to go then so be it. I have complete trust in manager and know we will replace him with a more effective player. No way martial plays the way Sanchez played yesterday and no way does he take the role Rashford agreed to take in late game. He would have sulked at 1-0 down and we have beaten most of the top teams without him. He needs to be happy with a squad player role for now, if he isnt then he can leave while we get a better right winger(hopefuly left footed) and be more balanced.
This, exactly. Trust the manager only goes so far when that manager has an awful track record of letting promising talent go only for them to flourish elsewhere and become "hey, we need a player like 'x' at United" players. I'm no Martial fanboy, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him leave and become the next De Bruyne/Salah in Mou's CV.Lukaku, De Bruyne, Salah.
I really do wish we'd take this sort of option if he really is intent on leaving, it would be so smart. But I can't see it happen. It looks inevitable that he will leave. I hope that the board is prudent, and we loan him out for 18 months to serie A and he can wait out Mourinho there.
And why should it change? Jose has won the League Cup, Europa League, 2nd in the Prem, and FA Cup final. The team are doing better then at anyt
SAF was ready to let Superstars go to nurture young promising players, too. Remember Ronaldo instantly getting the No 7 shirt as Beckams successor? Apart from Stam and perhaps Tevez, he let all star players go at the perfect time as they started to decline.
We'll never know because it never happened. Plenty of young players didn't work out under SAF too.
SAF let plenty of players go in his time because they didn't fit what he wanted, world class players too (Stam, Beckham, RvN as examples). It is the managers job to provide the vision for the team and players need to fit that vision.
But that's all still irrelevant though because the fact is Jose does appreciate Martial because he has offered him a new contract. As part of that contract offer I'm sure Jose and Martial/Martials agent have had discussions about what is wanted/expected of Martial in the future. And Martial has turned it down. Fine, then move on if you've decided you don't want to do what the manager is asking of you.

The same people that are criticizing our 30 goal striker at every chance, probably.Hilarious watching people twist themselves into pretzels to keep Martial here at all costs.
I doubt Jose is concerned with fairness as much as he is getting the squad to perform well.He was starting to perform well. Manager gets a new player and shoves him out of his position. How is that remotely fair.
So his contract can expire and he leaves on a free instead? It looks inevitable that he will leave. I hope that the board is prudent, and we loan him out for 18 months to serie A and he can wait out Mourinho there.
It's completely up to Martial if wants to become as good as Salah or De Bruyne and he might need to play for a club where they're not expected to win every weekend in order to do that like the other two names mentioned. This, exactly. That's generally my view as well. Players should view competition as an incentive to fight, not leave. It's completely up to Martial if wants to become as good as Salah or De Bruyne and he might need to play for a club where they're not expected to win every weekend in order to do that like the other two names mentioned.
Martial has been poor and inconsistent this season. He's predictable, lacks flexibility and hasn't progressed since his first season with us. We've got better options on the left side and we wouldn't have even been interested in Sanchez if Martial was playing brilliantly, or if we was, it would be Sanchez being pushed out to the right side while Martial lit the left up.
If Martial is now threatening to leave then we should sell in the summer. The fact he didn't get any minutes in the FA cup game yesterday says he's already gone in my opinion.
The way he's responded to having competition in his positions is disappointing. He should be challenging for a place in training, not sulking. He's hardly given Jose a selection headache this season and we don't need players who are causing issues just because they're on the bench. You can't fault Jose for getting rid of him in the summer if he goes.
That's exactly what he did up until January. Then he was shunted onto the right. That's generally my view as well. Players should view competition as an incentive to fight, not leave.
Unfortunately that's how it goes sometimes. He's not going to be prioritized over Lukaku just to keep him happy. That's exactly what he did up until January. Then he was shunted onto the right.
Which was the perfect opportunity for him to show Jose how serious he is about playing for United. If I remember correctly there were a few games where him and Sanchez played together on both wings. He was largely shit in every match. He then responded by getting his girlfriend to make Tweets about him being misused on the right. Stellar response. That's exactly what he did up until January. Then he was shunted onto the right.
Don't think he wants to be prioritised. Just treated fairly. He didn't seem to mind when he and Rashford were fighting for the LW at the start of the season. Lukaku being virtually undroppable and rarely being subbed means he rarely ever gets to play in his preferred position and, with Sanchez arriving, he'll barely even play in his secondary position. If he wants to become a striker, there's very little chance of him developing properly in the role while Jose's around. People can say that it's just competition, but I honestly see no scenario at all where, even if Lukaku or Sanchez are playing badly, he takes their one of their spots in the team. To him, what benefit is there sticking around, competing for a sub role with Rashford for a position that he doesn't even want to play long-term? If you had no previous ties to United, would you stick around in this situation?Unfortunately that's how it goes sometimes. He's not going to be prioritized over Lukaku just to keep him happy.
Much of that is informed by his attitude in training and in the lockroom. If he has a dour reaction to sitting on the bench then that is obviously not going to help him in the manager's eyes.Don't think he wants to be prioritised. Just treated fairly. They're assuming because Mourinho said in a press conference that instead of asking why Martial and Rashford aren't playing the press should be asking why Matic and Lukaku are playing so often.I think people are twisting reality to make it look like a sensible decision to sell him.
He’s had a better season than Sanchez, and a lots of other players in that position as well. Up til january his goals +assist per played minutes was up there with the very best.
Of course we would be just fine without him as well but lets not pretend he’s had a horrible season. And what is the evidence he’s sulking btw? Didn’t Mourinho say earlier in the season that his in attitude in training was good? Or did i dream that happened?
Has there been anything saying he does? This sulk narrative seems to have taken off recently on here.Much of that is informed by his attitude in training and in the lockroom. If he has a dour reaction to sitting on the bench then that is obviously not going to help him in the manager's eyes.
There's a 50 page thread in the transfer forum discussing his departure. That sort of thing is obviously not going to help his cause.Has there been anything saying he does? This sulk narrative seems to have taken off recently on here.
This crap about Jose letting Salah go needs to stop. Firstly, it was Jose who spotted Salah's talent and signed him for Chelsea in the first place. But Chelsea went and won the Prem without Salah in the team, so Jose loaned him out to get game time and develop.Lukaku, De Bruyne, Salah.
It might have been good earlier in the season, but what is it now? Jose also said Shaw was going to be the future LB at Utd, then subsequently dropped him. So, we can only go by what we see, and many of us see a very sulky looking player. We got the FA Cup final yesterday, and the team and staff were all ecstatic, yet one person didn't seem to care and that person was Martial. We all saw that on the TV pictures, it wasn't even remotely missable.I think people are twisting reality to make it look like a sensible decision to sell him.

He was laughing and hugging his teammates. How does that equate to sulking ?It might have been good earlier in the season, but what is it now? Guessing he's going off this video but even then you can see him with a Martial-style smile to Faria briefly (about 15 secs in).He was laughing and hugging his teammates. How does that equate to sulking ?
Martial rarely seems ecstatic tbf, he just seems to have a shy and introvert personality. I couldn’t see any sulking in his performance against Bournemouth 4 days ago, could you?It might have been good earlier in the season, but what is it now? Exactly, it's his face and his demeanor. It only takes him scoring to fully crack a big smile but in general he's like that on the video.Guessing he's going off this video but even then you can see him with a Martial-style smile to Faria briefly (about 15 secs in).
You're trying to find something that isn't there. Only one video in which he's about 5 seconds. Maybe you have something else ?It might have been good earlier in the season, but what is it now? Jose also said Shaw was going to be the future LB at Utd, then subsequently dropped him. So, we can only go by what we see, and many of us see a very sulky looking player. going off that clip Shaw and Bailly are sulking aswellGuessing he's going off this video but even then you can see him with a Martial-style smile to Faria briefly (about 15 secs in).
Very well put. There is nothing to suggest a bad attitude. It's pretty simple with Martial, he needs to feel that the manager believes in him. He doesn't mind being given a bollocking as long as he knows it's for his own good. He explained already how strict LVG was with him, but that he was fine with this as he knew LVG wanted him to improve.
He actually responded to Mourinho's so called 'tough love', and forced himself into the team, only for Mourinho to break that trust the player was developing with him by getting Sanchez and shoving Martial out of the starting line up.
What that says to the player is that no matter what he does, the manager doesn't give a shit about being fair to him, hence the loss of confidence and consideration of a possible move.
People blindly allowing Mourinho to manipulate them into thinking certain players aren't good enough will regret it. Instead of acknowledging his limitations in regards to getting the best out of attacking players, he's spending his energy trying to convince fans that player a,b or c doesn't work hard enough And some fans are falling for this.
The manager is untrustworthy and a narcissist, and will cause serious damage if he's allowed to dictate the direction of the club.
It's a **** following.Hilarious watching people twist themselves into pretzels to keep Martial here at all costs.
This. One thing that I also noticed while reading this thread is that most people are indifferent to this (and to Martial's possible move). Something that I am worried about is our future. Mourinho is not here for a long term, probably the coming season is his last with us, and one common thread that I see with him is that he is looking for a proven player (preferably a warrior) that is in his late 20's. Sanchez is almost 30, Mourinho's primary target last summer was Ivan Perisic who falls in the same age bracket as Sanchez. Now don't get me wrong, such players are required in your team, but not at the expense of a player that is superb technically, and with the right guidance can be a game changer. I know that Martial has his flaws (and tracking back is one of them), but at the same time he has shown his qualities prior to Sanchez's arrival. I just hope that we won't find ourselves back to square one after Mourinho's tenure, and by square one I mean an aging squad that requires serious investment to once again compete (similar to Inter's position after Jose left). There is nothing to suggest a bad attitude. Reminds me a bit of the old Januzaj posse. Everything from the coaches, system, circumstances is to blame - except of course the player. It's a **** following.
Should we try to keep Martial - absolutely
Should he be given whatever he wants - absolutely not
If Martial wants to leave and we sell him to fund transfers for our weak areas in the team then it is good for the club. Martial sure as hell isn't elite level, and won't be an elite level forward for a few years.
Griezmann, Dybala, Insigne, Isco. We have been screaming for an upgrade on Mata but haven't got them due to other areas needing work.
