Pogba has always played like this. The difference is at man utd, everyone expects him to do everything. If he keeps it simple, "he's not influencial". Whereas every other midfielder in the world can get away with doing a specific thing on the pitch, Pogba is expected to carry us in everything, which no current midfielder can do. This is partly because of his physical capabilities, hype and the fact that we are not as good as people are used to, so Pogba is seen as the sole star that can lift us up.
I see him now as more of a modric or couthinho type of player with greater physical capabilities. He can create chances, give you good balls, contribute with goals, drop deep to spray balls around the pitch and generally bring a spark to the team while adding a greater defensive nous than them due to his size. In fact, kind of like a young scholes when playing with keane. He is not vieira, he is not yet pirlo, and will never be a xavi or kroos. And the sooner people start to realise, the sooner they will start actually appreciate how much Pogba gives us.

Pogba wants to be a superstar off the pitch but not in the pitch.

I already had my doubts at Euro 2016 and his 2 seasons here have shown he didn't have the mentality/position on the pitch of a superstar.

This world cup is definitely showing that Pogba is a more a water carrier than a superstar.

I can't wait to see Adidas' reaction to this "new" Pogba. It's not a good thing for them because slowly, Pogba is killing the hype that he built in Italy.

But for Mourinho and Deschamps, it's definetly a great thing. They never saw him as a guy good enough to build the team around and now, Pogba seems to have the same opinion :)
How many midfielders are superstars? It's not possible. The credit mostly goes to attackers. Midfielders are supposed to provide the platform.

Don't be so sure that he will do the same for United. This is a WC and for his country.
The upcoming season will be interesting

Eamon Dunphy was his best today talking about the England v Sweden game

If Pogba was playing for England the England team would be home now

Interestingly, Pogba lost an awful lot of balls against Uruguay but it didn't bother me, it's only when it was mentioned later that I realized how bad it could have been.

Watching the game a lot of the incomplete passes and ball losses were risky forward passes trying to create something. He did the basics generally very well. For an attack minded midfielder passing statistics don't show the true story.

What's impressed me most about Pogba in this World Cup is his maturity. He's played deeper than Tolisso and Matuidi in Deschamps' system and done it with little fuss.

He's looked to spring the counter where he can and kept it simple when he can't. We've seen little of the ball hogging or useless touches he displayed so often at the end of last season. Pogba's had his issues with Deschamps and his tactics but he seems to have gotten over himself. I hope he brings that mentality back to United after Russia 2018.

I think the reason for that is that we don’t have any real competition for him and as a club, have been blowing smoke up his ass. Whereas France have other genuine superstars such as Griezmann, Mbappe as well as other good players such as Kante, Tolisso and Matuidi. He knows he can't get away the shit he pulls at Man United or he will be kicked out of the first XI by Deschamps in an instant.

Wish he would run with the ball for us like he does for France. When he first signed he was running with the ball but he rarely does it that much for us, and that is arguably his strongest asset. I do think that is on Mourinho though.

He looks to have matured a lot during this competition. It was about time really, next season hes going to be immense for us.

This is nonsense, he's no more mature now than he was last season, he is just been used far better, and is clearly trusted by the manager.

He will only be 'immense' for us once the above applies at United.

If Pogba put in a performance like this in a team that lost (it's finely balanced), some of the same people praising him would be feeding him to the wolves. Not doing enough...

I'm not denying he's been good, because he has. But he is capable of doing this. At United there is just much more responsibility in an attacking sense, particularly when you consider how poorly we often play.

To me, it's simply further proof that a side can be successful with him in the side. Juventus was proof enough, mind you.

Brilliant. Dominated the midfield, defensively sound & made the correct passes going forward. Really mature performance.

He looks so much better when his starting position is a bit deeper. It's fine to give him licence to get forward now and again, but it shouldn't be his main directive.

He might finally be maturing into a complete midfielder. Would have liked some more goals out of him in the tournament but otherwise he's been class.
