Could be, but utterly unnecessary one imo when a simple congratulation would be much more appropriate and much less likely to backfire.

If he really wanted to achieve that, then he obviously misjudged Pogba and that again reflects poorly on Mourinho since Pogba is his star signing and he got to work with and get to know him for over 2 years now.
I disagree with the notion that Jose's comments on Pogba during and after the World Cup were out of order. I have read and reread those comments and I find nothing wrong with them. Maybe that is because I am old school. The football I knew while growing up decades ago, players were tough and managers were largely the bosses. The world has obviously changed so but let us say I am wrong. But how about everything Jose has been saying about Pogba since then? They have been nothing but positive comments and praises. He even gave him the captain's armband. On the contrary, why does Pogba continue to make cryptic public comments about their relationship and his relationship with the club especially at a period when we are having some difficulties on the pitch? Or is he going to hold a grudge forever if he was indeed offended like many people claim? Bygones should be bygones. The team needs to get back on track. United should be more important than personal issues. Whatever Jose said months ago, you can't keep holding on to those as a basis for directly or indirectly disrupting the club. That seems selfish to me. Pogba needs to eliminate all ambiguities and doing that is the easiest thing in the world to do especially for such an expressive, charismatic lad.

Are people shitting on Jose for this #pogshit show?
Jose has done or said a lot shit but when it comes to Pogba, Jose fecking bent backwards for this guy supported him, defended him when every pundit dog piled on his shit performances and gave him the captain's armband.
He certainly did and he’s been doing it for two years now. This is what people forget when it comes to Mourinho and Pogba’s relationship.

A few articles found on a quick Google search:

The one uncomfortable truth that many will not wish to confront with this situation is reconciling the fact that Pogba is the first player that we have had post-Ronaldo and especially post-Ferguson, who will view his natural place as being at a higher level than United are currently able to operate. United are no longer dining at the top table in European football. Post-Ferguson we have quite clearly stumbled and whilst we have picked up a number of cups, our results week in and week out have demonstrated that we cannot consider us ourselves among the elite for the time being. This paranoia is manifesting itself through the criticism of Pogba, whereby fans are insecure at United’s current status and currently easily dismiss interest from those higher up the food chain.

For once we cannot hide behind the alternate world view where for people from the Iberian penisula and South America, Real and Barcelona are the two giants of the game. People accepted that Ronaldo wanted to play for Madrid as he viewed the club as the one of his dreams, whilst maintaining that from an alternate perspective that United were the biggest club in the world, and had recent form to suggest that were at least equals to Madrid, if not greater at that time. Even if the most deluded fan would not suggest that Barcelona and United currently belong in the same bracket.

People aren’t preoccupied with any of our other players, because, quite frankly, they haven’t demonstrated themselves to be a level where they could expect to play for a perennial Champions League contender every week. Truth be told, even De Gea is valued by United far more greatly than by any of the top European teams. There’s not been tangible interest after faxgate. For anyone else leaving the club, the sense would be they would be taking a step down or at best sideways. Pogba is the only player we expect whose next move, if it should it come to happen, would likely be upwards.

I say all that and Pogba hasn’t set the world ablaze at United. For me his biggest fault, has simply been not living up to his price tag, but has otherwise been pretty darn good. Those tasked with transfers aren’t asking themselves what has a player done recently, but what can a player do for us, and Pogba has the biggest upside out of anyone at our club. If any of our players are going to likely be a success over the next six or seven years, either with us or without us, it is likely to be him.

Personally, I feel Pogba is happy at United for the time being, but doesn’t feel wedded to the club. If United improve and can match his ambition, he could well stay for a long time. Should the wheels continue to spin, should he have an indifferent relationship with his boss, then he’s shown to always be someone willing to consider his options and make an ambitious move. I’m not worried about Pogba at the moment as it largely seems to be clickbait and paranoia coming to the fore. What is disappointing is to see how many people are so easily manipulated and the levels of hypocrisy behind wafer-thin veneers of “support” and “loyalty”.

I think the footballing side is still covered by Raiola.
Wrong, check again exactly the same as J Boatang at Bayern which is why they wanted to sell him, He was always flying over to the US for external contract negotions and they then demanded a new football contract for their client. Lukaku is paid the going rate at 250k per week, more than Kane, similar to Benzema, Lewandowski and Cavani so need to rock the boat, Raiola has very little now to do with Romelu and it's a good thing for the club that he does not because he would be agitating for Lukaku to move to Madrid with an increase to his wages of 100k per week, its just the way he works!!!

I've just got to the stage now were I couldn't care if he pissed off to Barca just so I don't have to see the gutter press just printing muck everyday about him and the club, trying to cause disharmony, just get a decent fee enough to get 2 or 3 promising players in, no superstar billy big bollocks look at me, just hard working players who are honoured to play for this club like 2 players who most fans feared were disasters on their debuts - Vidic and Evra and are through legends to me. No more with this galactico crap, back to basics and get players who will bleed for the shirt rather then players like Pogba asking what have the club done for me lately

Although I'm a huge fan of Pogba, I think winning the World Cup has gone to his head. His statements are just hurting the club and just toying with us. Honestly, I think we should consider getting Ndombele. He seems like someone whose got potential to do well and grow at our club. I think both Mourinho and Pogba don't deserve to be at United. Both of them are just ruining the reputation of the club.

Really, again I see nothing wrong with his comments. He's never stated he's going to Barca. He literally said those are just rumors.

Some of you guys are looking for any excuse to be upset. The narrative of him leaving has consumed you all.

I am struggling to recall a player with a supposed big club actually namechecking a rival club like that when talking about his future.

The fan boys are out in force defending the indefensible of course but it is time to end this circus. This fella is simply not worth the hassle.

Looking over my shoulder.
Tired of him. His messages are cryptic, facilitating further rumours and speculation. He could easily have said that he has no problem with Mourinho and that he enjoys being a United player. It's interesting that he's flirting with other clubs talking down his current manager. If you read one thing about job interviews, you should never disrespect your current employer. I can only imagine that all top managers expect much from their players and no nonsense. I remember Henry explaining how Pep substituted him after he scored, for not following his instructions. If I were a manager, I would be hesitant including a player who openly encourages speculationa about him and the club. His marketvalue outshines his contributions on the pitch; therefore, being responsible solely for the football results of the club, I would be in two minds about him. How long would it take before he stirs things up at his new place? Certainly, any manager would consider these things.

No, it's not that. The issue is that he continues to be cryptic even when club legends are criticizing his comments. He should not be talking about his relationship with Mourinho the way he does. He should be taking this with him and/or Woodward. He is creating speculation because he thinks it will benefit him one way or another. Hopefully, it backfires.

He'd be mad to go to Barcelona right now anyway. Yes the lifestyle is great (i live here myself) but the team is clearly going to enter a period of decline soon. Messi, Rakitic and Suárez are all entering the latter stages of their careers and they have made some terrible buys at the back. Pogba will arrive at the party just as everyone else is hailing the taxis home.

Jesus, he just can't stop talking..

Also can't believe some are trying to justify it by those Jose quotes after the world cup. It wasnt so dramatic to push Pogba to his antics. And ok you say something once and you're through but he can't stop.. I mean those quotes about Barcelona sound like ok I'm not a Barca player now but.. Not reassuring at all
Maybe I'm seeing things.

Does Paul Pogba have a split personality? One day he says one thing and the next he says the complete opposite.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
Now I find one thing particularly interesting.

Under LVG football was bad, he had a plan, but football was bad, I mean really bad and he got all the blame for it, players were pretty much absolved from guilt. Their devotion and attitude were extremely rarely brought into question.

Under Mourinho football is bad, not yet the level of LVG bad but there were some games...i'd like to believe he's got a plan, or few…alas Mourinho is not getting nearly as much of blame that LVG has got for it whilst players are heavily criticised, their devotion, love for the club, abilities and attitude is under a constant firestorm of scrutiny. Most recently board, that has sanctioned close to £400 million to Mourinho and overall more than £700 million is also getting the blame.

If LVG has done what Mourinho has done and is doing regarding his antics, criticism, disrespect towards the club…

Also Pogba has shown he can perform for Conte, Alegri, Deschamps...not exactly "creme de la creme" but they've all won stuff.
The key difference was that under LVG we were getting worse. Results-wise we had a decent first season then a terrible second, while still not playing any better (indeed the football itself was probably getting worse).

Whereas under Mourinho we showed improvement in both full seasons. Both in results and in style. We had a better season last year than most seem to acknowledge. Yes we made a mistake in the CL (although people tend to forget we had a lot of injuries at the time), but in the league we actually did fairly well. 11 points higher than any other season since Fergie retired, and also the most amount of goals since then. Hell, it would have been enough to win the league in 15/16 (Leicester's season), and competitive most others. The problem was that we were up against a record setting team which made us look worse than we actually were.

If we fall away this season and start getting worse in both results and performances, the knives will definitely be out for Mourinho (even worse than they already are).

Am I seeing something that is not there?

Normally I wouldn’t place any emphasis on what a player posts on social media, but in Pogba’s case, I think it’s telling.

He doesn’t post about United that much (lately) compared to the French National team.

IMO he is playing a game and knows what he’s doing.

I wonder what he'll say next - "unless you see me in Barcelona shirt by the end of January for the 150mil fee, I guess I'll still be Manchester United player"?

He didn't namecheck them, the journalist asked him if the moves to Barcelona and Juventus were only rumors.

Does anyone today really think that Pogba manages his social media accounts completely by himself? Its like people actually believe that he sits at home at his crib and decides to post this and that. The man is a multimilliondollar industry, which is part of the reason we bought him in the first place.
Pogba has a PR-rep or ten of them that manages his social media. Any posts of his is probably vetted by Adidas PR and probabaly United PR as well. He is not going to post a lot of stuff by himself; about United or anything else without it being PC.
This thread and your post is a perfect example as of why this is a good idea as well; people get all worked up about one or two wordings. Stop trying to overinterpret something that is PR-business.

I keep reading people repeating that Pogba has been ‘cryptic’. I’m really curious what has he been cryptic about (more so than your average sports professional to the media).

Is it his ‘I’ll get fined’ comment? Because I don’t find that cryptic at all. It’s pretty obviously his clumsy way of saying the performance was so bad, it’s worrh a few expletives that he doesn’t want to be fined for.

Is it the Mourinho relationship being strictly coach-player? Nothing cryptic about that, most players will tell you that of their coaches.

Or is it the false quotes attributed to him where some of you jumped at the chance to tear down his character instead of being actual supporters?

I mean, is there something I missed that would be considered cryptic? The attitude being wrong? That’s not cryptic, it’s just an honest answer where he blames himself first even if the whole team’s attitude was wrong against Brighton.

People just want to find a reason to dislike the guy when he’s one of the few players you have that can make a difference and have genuine moments of class, however far and few in between they may be, which is a symptom of this team as a whole to begin with.

Where did I say that I think Pogba handles his own social media?

Even if what you said is true (which I'm not denying), his PR team will not post things out unless it has his consent.

I think Pogba and his PR team (and agent) are playing games on social media and I don't think it's a coincidence that his United related posts (since the Barcelona rumours started) have been limited.

FWIW, I like Pogba and want him to be a success here, so I don't have an 'agenda' before anyone starts with that nonsense.

Speaking of social media, I’m going to feed the trolls now, Pogba’s last post had a Spanish translation included when it’s usually French/English! Feel free to tear this thread apart again. #PogConspiracy

Either way i look at it, its all bullshit for me. He is being disrespectful towards the club, the manager and the fans. Judging the circus that always surrounds him on social media I don't think he is very bright either. I think we should let him go whenever he wants if he continues like this. I think on the long term, despite his ability, his persona will damage his career in certain ways.

Does not make any sense since he said this after beating Leicester and playing well having been made captain. PogbOut and PogbIn camps are both re-writing history to suit their agenda.

I think your post is on the other extreme end, denying there is any problem at all. I would think the truth is somewhere in middle.

For the quoted part, I think most players would respond with "We have a good relationship" and stop the rumours (if that is the intention). Saying my relationship with coach is strictly professional, gives a sense that there is something which can't be said.

There would not be a narrative if he didn't keep talking about his future like this, that's two interviews on this international break. You don't see our other players entertaining questions like this on international duty, also name dropping Barca when he was asked about them. He knows what he's doing. He's been at it since the Leicester game. Clearly not happy and is following instructions from his agent too. You would be a fool to think it's a given he'll be here this time next year.

Eh? That quote was after the Leicester game - that we won, and during which he had captained the team and played excellently...try again.

Ooops, I had a bad recollection of the timeline. My apologies. In that case, that is one thing you could call cryptic as it makes less sense than if it was after the Brighton game.

I don't think it's being on the other end of the spectrum to think everything is fine. I think people should know that professional sports is not a place where you're all friends and get along great. Maybe Pogba and Mourinho are at odds on some level, but my contention is that it's nothing out of the ordinary in a professional, competitive environment and it isn't a reason to think a player is mentally checked out and planning his exit. There are countless examples of professional teammates, coach-players, etc who had a difficult relationship and still went on to achieve great things without the team breaking apart.

Pogba can say what he likes within reason but he is going to be judged for it. He isn't an idiot, his agent isn't an idiot, they are worldly wise and know how to say something that will dampen down speculation and what to say to increase it.

If he is happy and wants to stay that's all he has to say - nothing else. If he hints at something, suggests something or alludes to something he KNOWS it will be all over the media within minutes.

My biggest issue is that despite having all the tools to be immense this is all being played out against a backdrop of averagely decent performances and poor results. If he was flying through games leading us to win after win and turning in majestic performances then that's one thing but he hasn't come anywhere near justifying his signing for us yet so to be appearing to be courting the possibility of a move with so much "unfinished business" does leave a bit of a bad taste. If he would just get his head down and get on with actually trying to play the best football he can I for one would be far more impressed.

Not really when he says something is just a rumour and its reported as him saying it may be true. Its actually really funny how many people have not bothered to actually go and find out what was said before commenting.

Anyway what Pogba is doing is confirming that there is no love lost between him and Jose, but we all knew that anyway. None the less he should shut up about it now.

One day his says this, the other day a complete opposite. Pretty clear Raiola is whispering in his ears. You're the boss Pogba, He's your employee. How about giving the club a little respect despite of whatever it is you're planning to do? who knows, you might be able to get what you want and not looking like a complete tit at the same time.

Pogba is fecking annoying to say the least. Journos will always ask shit stirring questions and a pro football can easily deflect if he wants it to. Even if he has clear intent to leave (let's say next summer), just shut the feck up about answering these questions with hidden agendas.
The whole "if you don't see me with a Barca shirt".... fecking hell :wenger:
