He worked really hard going forward and in defense. He made minimal errors and took his opportunities brilliantly. I want to see this Martial more often.

I really hope that he is able to find consistency and realise the potential that many see in him.

If you're putting him ahead of United, then obviously you're gonna be content if he does well, even if the team lost. Maybe not ecstatic but just content. There's nothing strange about it. There are plenty of people who support players before clubs. I'm talking about a fan who will follow their player if he switches clubs and go support that club.
The ridiculous "nananana I can't hear you and you're wrong!" is very strong with your posts to be honest. It's like reading someone debating with a brick wall who constantly pats itself on the back.

There's one who just admitted to it being the case. If you think otherwise, make an argument for it.

There will undoubtedly be like one in three on here who will claim your post is ridiculous without having an argument.

I would say good look to anyone trying to figure out what you're on about.
Martial and Shaw have always been good. With some good fortune theyve finally been given a run of games to prove it and have done so nicely. Those saying they sucked and didn't deserve a run were unfair. Straightforward point for individuals with basic comprehension.

I heard that no one has scored more goals for United since he's been here in a post-game segment, which is pretty incredible considering how frozen out he was at times under Mourinho the last two years.
It is true but even though he has been frozen out at times, the stat isn't that surprising given Mata and Lingard are our only two other attackers who've been around as long/longer. Our centre forwards Zlatan and Lukaku had about 1 and a bit seasons each compared to Martial's 3 and a bit.

Only listed those who scored goals for us in that time - Lindelof and Jones, for example, haven't.

Believe it or not, Martial would have 20 goal league a season last season if he didn't get benched by Sanchez. He has 4 goals in last 4 games, for now, you can notice how Shaw made difference for Martial as Martial don't have to keep width all time but get into the box as much as he like, when he was in the box, he scores it. Type of player we need from the winger, not like Sanchez who is trying too hard to be creative and try more risk pass but he should leave it all to midfield and get into the box.

Martial is really necessary for us if Lukaku can't finish chances, who would show up? If City's striker does not turn up, Sane or Sterling will. Same for Liverpool, Firmino and Mane will step in if Salah does not turn up.

But they haven't always been good. Martial been quality at different stages but shaw tbf hasn't been remotely close to it.......it's just ok at the moment.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
Well if he thought he was leaving in the summer he would coast and buck his ideas up when facing a further 12 months here?
Martial was a disgrace at times last year, I'm not making anything up
Martial is a confidence player and does seem somewhat mentally weak. The fact that the people he is competing with all get significantly more leeway and that he has to massively outperform them to get the same treatment probably weighs on his mind. Especially when he finally gets that proper chance and spends a couple of months as comfortably our best attacking player, then gets instantly moved and quickly dropped entirely when we go out and buy another player who replaces him (and stays there no matter what despite playing like shit). Even during his poorer performances in the second half of last season he was often showing glimpses of potential that was better than what Sanchez and Rashford were doing at the time, but unlike them he wasn't given the opportunity to build on that.

Martial has his weaknesses and it'd be great if he were made of stronger stuff mentally (which may ultimately be the thing which stops him becoming one of the best in the world), but the way he's been managed during Mourinho's time has been terrible. I'm fairly certain that it was a lack of confidence and belief which led to his poorer matches, rather than lack of interest.

I'm still not convinced. Remember the time in January when Martial scored in 3 consecutive matches. Mourinho then cruelly switched him to the right flank to accommodate Sanchez on the left.

This give you a feeling Jose never really trusts Martial and that he'll immediately drop him anytime he gets a chance to do that.

Remind me of this

was after his winning goal against Burnley. Jose then made him a scapegoat for Sanchez.

It used to make me happy because i loved both of them (hating Jose now). But in the end it was just a glimpse of hope. It never works.

Everything about relationship between Jose and Martial is so fragile that can be crashed at anytime. I still believe Jose will again bench Martial if he has 2 matches in a row in which he doesnt have a goal/an assist. Jose never gives Martial the same treatment that he gives to Lukaku

I was praising him as well, and said he had a great game, just a couple of pages back.

I don't really understand what you are angry about. It's my opinion that we have a few on here who care more about Martial than the club. Like I said, it's normal to be supporting a player before a club, it's just annoying. I'm guessing some will be Mourinhos biggest fans if he keeps playing Martial, and he plays well.
Don't worry, maybe he'll have a bad game soon and people will get back to slating him and you can get your sanity back

Exactly. Martial blatantly gave up trying for a few months and the excuses still kept flooding in.
We're seeing a Martial who cares at the minute, long may it continue.
You are seeing a Martial that's getting consistent minutes. Which all started during Rashfords suspension

Read on reddit that Martial contributed to more goals than anyone since Jose took over. That's a superb stat considering he was never regular player, without checking in guessing Lukaku played more mins than Martial.

Really feel we've hindered his development. There have been times when he's let himself down. But there have also been times where we should have treated him like the special talent he is but didn't. Under Van Gaal he was immense. But under Jose, I always felt like he has lesser room for error than most, and tends to perform inspite of his manager's support rather than due to his manager's support. Last season he was excellent despite Mourinho's lack of faith in him till Sanchez came, took the position he earned and then turned completely to shit and wanted to leave.

All in all, I rate Martial very highly. I think he's better defensively than people give him credit for. I think he's the most naturally gifted attacker we have, and we're making the wrong decision if that left hand side isn't his. Think of everyone we've had who could have played there since martial joined - Rashford, Mkhitarian, Sanchez, Lingard (?) and Memphis. Martial is better than them all and I personally have never seen why any of them is first choice over him, and believe that if the manager saw that too (like LVG did oddly enough), then we'd have a much better player on our hands right now.

So it may only have taken 10months for Mourinho to realize what many of us have been saying. What a waste of everyone's time
Mourinho should have realised it 2 years ago.

Don't worry though. As soon as Martial plays in a bad United loss, he'll be back on the bench and the cycle will continue. I'd love to see Martial playing in a Sarri like system where the players are encouraged to take more touches and dominate the ball. I suppose right now I'll settle for players I rate actually playing.

Mourinho's problem is that he takes a long time to drop his "warriors" - Lukaku, Matic and Sanchez. They all have a decent workrate, never let their heads drop and carry out instructions well. The trouble is that they aren't very good (atleast at the moment), and Mourinho has a tendency of continuing to play his favourites even when they are liabilities.

Just recently he was criticising the fans by saying that he started Martial over Sanchez due to the popular clamor over him, and hinted that Martial had done feck all that game (and proceeded to start Sanchez over him immediately in the next game). I believe that comment was aimed at Woodward who refused to sell Martial, much like starting McTominay as a CB was a statement in defiance of Ed not sanctioning a new CB.

Mourinho has been downright disgraceful in his treatment of Martial, no matter what the latter's faults were. About time he realized it and tried to repair the relationship.

I wanna be hopeful with this one, I think he's finally realized Martial is the best at that position for us. He just needs to realize

Mourinho can be clueless like that. He overcomplicates things unnecessarily, Martial is better than Sanchez so Martial should play more.

I think our managers should realise it first. Especially if those players are really talented in the first place. One bad half and he will be out of the team again, and it's not like we have Ronaldo on the bench.
I agree with you. I feel like Mou may now have seen the light though, those were two huge goals. If Mourinho doesn't see now that it's players he has mistreated, like Pogba, Martial and Shaw that will save his United career, then he doesn't deserve to be manager.

Last season, Lukaku scored a league goal every 179 minutes, Martial scored one every 176 minutes. Which is remarkable, considering Lukaku always had the manager's trust, is basically a poacher and the entire attack was built around him as a number nine.

Martial/Rashford interchanging on the left

This worked in 2017 then mourinho changed it when Sanchez came in.

Idea.

Go back to this and play mata/Sanchez/Lingard on the left and one of them in the hole where necessary.

Simple.

These 2 lads had crazy good stats before Sanchez came and I think he’s rocked the boat.

I get why mourinho has done it because Sanchez was proven however I think we need to revert back.

I do trust mourinho though it would stupid not to, we finished second last year. SECOND.

I'm not sure if Sanchez is actually one of them. I think he was given so much leeway more because of him being the new big signing rather than him being one of Mourinho's trusted lieutenants. Now we've got to the point where he's past that and he's now going to be treated the same as everyone else, hence him now dropping down the pecking order.

Lukaku and Matic on the other hand are obviously his 'warriors' as you called them.

Well reading caf, especially Jose fans posts you would think we are talking about some average nothing player.

It's weird how his good form is absolutely burning some posters. Probably because they've stuck their head in the sand and refused to acknowledge his poor treatment under Mourinho. Watching so many fans rewrite history and pretend that he's done nothing to deserve a bit more faith from his coach as a talented but inevitably inconsistent 22 year old was an eye opener considering our fans like to champion youth so much. What made the whole thing especially weird is that Mourinho's shown an inability or perhaps lack of interest in the past in developing precocious talents. But some were happy for him to freeze out the likes of Martial and Shaw, without the silverware to vindicate his decisions :houllier:

It's also pretty telling that certain posters who are very vocal in their criticism of the lad are nowhere to be seen when he's playing well. Oh well I hope he continues to silence his critics.

His two finishes were fantastic. Im not sure which one I liked more. They were different in a way, but both so cool. I do wonder how his progress would have been if he had been played closer to goal / striker after his initial burst in the league instead of being pushed out wide first for Rooney then for Zlatan, then for Lukaku.

Best attacking player at the club, should be the first name on the team sheet every single time when the list starts with attacking players.

I liked his first one more. The way he controlled it and let it go in one movement was brilliant. Pure instinct.

Would Martial work in this set-up as our main forward ?
Genuine question.
Probably not, as we tend to play to a target man and rely on that and it isn’t even a role that really suits Lukaku who probably has more attributes towards that than Martial.
I do think Martial could work as a forward but he’d need to be played more like how Aguero is utilised and in doing that Martial would have to pick up his workrate in forward positions and improve the runs he makes. Let’s face it he can beat people in tight spaces, he can link up play and use others well and he has shown that when he is through he is probably the best finisher we really have. To get the best out of him in that position we’d need to change our tactics which strangely is what we need to do anyway to get the best out of Lukaku.

Right now I’d probably prefer if he focused on his starting position when we attack to being inbetween the fullback and CB and getting in and around the box more and have Shaw provide the width. Saying this I’ve liked what I’ve seen when he and Lukaku play as a 2 and even the link up with Sanchez when they’ve been in areas together and on the pitch and if Martial was to do well as say a 9, it would be due to people like Sanchez and Mata slipping balls through and moving so he can work with them.

For sides who we dominate and need to break down for sure, but if we are the one trying to be compact and hit on counter specially in away games, I think he lacks that work rate still.. Lukaku might be a bit out of form atm. But you can't say he ain't trying nor working hard.

What is this obsession with Martial playing at CF? He just played two very good games at LF and everybody is suddenly clamouring for him to start from the middle. What if he starts there and have a bad game? He'd be back on the bench.

Likely because we seem to have a real problem there currently with Lukakus form, and Martial scores goals
