So, when he looks exciting he has good technical and positional skills, but in the same time he's lacking technically and positionally every time he plays?
No, he looks exciting because he's fast and energetic, so he'll have moments that excite the crowd, being exciting has zero to do with being positionally or technically good, I think especially right now at Old Trafford with the sloth style CM's we often play, the fact he runs about more gets him points with some fans.

Felt like he was instructed to things that are not his strength like long passes and whatnot. If he is playing for Citeh now, he would feature more because of his energy and movement.

He was bright yesterday. Some of his passing was very good and he is capable of scoring from outside the box which can't be said of many of our players. Just a shame that he's a new player looking to integrate into a team that is too often a shambles.

I know, I just wanted you to write it differently for everyone to understand, I was a bit of a prick, sorry.

But yeah, I tend to agree. Being energetic kind of hides some of his flaws, like being quite a bit sloppy in possession. But that also comes with him learning English, getting used to his teammates, getting more and more games under his belt, etc.

Until now I can't say I'm convinced by him but he didn't really play much and, let's be honest, under Jose you never know why some players turn into instant shi7.

He tends to be sloppy & lose the ball but he also tends to go forward and try the risky pass. It's progress compared to our other CM's.

I really like Fred.

Thought he was playing well, a few loose touches here and there but that's more from him trying to impress and not being relaxed.

the 2nd half he did seem to tire out a bit, no doubt due to his high energy style + a lack of football recently. Just before he got subbed he lost the ball as a team mate played a square pass to him 5 yards away. He completely killed Fred with that as he had no idea the guy was behind him.

There's no surprise that once he was subbed the tempo in our play completely died, we were controlling the match at that point.

If he played for a quicker passing team he would be great, I could imagine him being fantastic in Liverpool's current team.

Also his body type is not suited to cover long distances. In City he would have to press short distances (smaller players are better at it) because the team is much more compact up the field.

I like him personally and want to see more of him.

He's sloppy at times but he adds a bit of speed and energy to the midfield when he plays.

I was livid with the crowd yesterday, at one point in the first half Fred tried to play a quick ball that was definitley on, it just about got intercepted so the crowd groaned loudly.

I thought the crowd wanted quick passing? He could have done what Fellaini and Matic do and just held on to it for ages, waited for the opponents to get set and then just play it to a full back but he wanted to make a quick play. The crowd at Old Trafford lacks intelligence sometimes these days. I used to take pride in the Old Trafford crowds footballing intelligence in comparison to other grounds.

Still would love to see a Pogba Pereira Fred midfield again.

We should have let the trio develop instead of throwing Matic and Fellaini back into the team.

My wit's end
I thought he was very good.

The comments about him being sloppy made me second guess my first impression. Having checked the stats, he had 90.1% passing accuracy, 81 passes and 102 touches in only 63 minutes. That's a really bloody good game from a numerical point of view. And he matched it from a quality point of view too, imo. Great passing range and an impressive ability to pass quickly through the lines. The only 'sloppiness' I could see was from a lack of upper body strength meaning he got pushed off the ball easily at times.

He just needs to work on his conditioning so he can last 90 minutes, and his strength so he doesn't get forced off balance so often. They're relatively easy fixes.

He's as two footed a player you will ever see. Not even sure which is his stronger foot, probably the left one i think
Yes, I love how two footed he is! I can't remember us having a player so two footed. His passing and shooting with both are pretty equal, imo. So much so, like you, I'm not sure which is his stronger foot.

The only complaint I have is that he is very loose with the ball. If he can work on keeping the ball closer to him after his first touch and when being pressed, he could become some player.

He brings good energy to the midfield but its usually out of sync with his midfield partners who are more sluggish (Matic and Fellaini) or don't defend (Pogba). He probably suits a high pressing system which those 3 don't.

I think there's def a player in there and I think he's clearly trying to prove his worth and sometimes I think he's trying to hard to prove it. He needs time to settle but I'm not sure he'll get enough playing time....

Needs a run of games with our other footballers. Like Pogba, Pereira and Herrera. Not playing with Matic and Fellaini

Honestly, I'm surprised, too. I thought he was good last game and José was going to let him build on the performance. Bah!

Left out of the Brazil side and annoyed and frustrated at his lack of playing time.

I don't know why we signed him. We should have just played Pereira and spent the 50 min on a CB. Not that Jose is picking either

 I mean, I just agreed with someone else who suggested it. It looked that way to me based on how many games and the types of games he was missing.

Couldn't get the stats, but didn't Mkhi in his first season by December, missed a lot of games too? Only near the end of the year, he starts to play more regularly, that counter attack goal against Spurs damn good.

Maybe almost similar number to Fred. Mkhi complained and now Fred complaints. The similarity is both doesn't adhere to Mou's defensive football, at least for Fred not yet, doubt he will anyway (he's much more naturally suited to high press and attacking possession) so similarly he gets dropped.

It's ridiculous by Mou as usual but I think it's still his signing. Pretty sure last season, months before we signed Fred, Mou commented how a Brazilian player should be in any good team, and also said something like our midfield lacks a certain type of midfielder, basically hinting the plan to get that type of midfielder to complete it and we got Fred, who is a Brazilian, different style of player and completes our midfield option.
