Carrick has no clue and is pals with the players. He should start with the reserves or somewhere else and work his way up. Carrick for a few weeks would be fine, but not half as season. We need a proper manager

If Carrick can at least get the players back onside, that will make some difference. I'd imagine he will try to encourage more attacking style as well. Obviously he's totally unproven and almost certainly isn't up to the task full time, but this season is over already.

Presumably we're not getting anyone who is currently out of work if we are waiting until summer. Rules out Jardim, Zidane and Conte. My guess would be Poch. I'd be delighted if it was, but still have doubts that he'd want the job.

Edit - Seems like it's not going to be Carrick now? Confusion!

I think SkySports either got the wrong end of the stick or have just worded it badly.

Carrick is interim manager for the next 48 hours before the caretaker is appointed. But they sort of worded it as Carrick will be announced as caretaker manager in the next 48 hours.

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...
It's going to be Carrick, but I'd take Wenger for a caretaker option, I'm not eve sure why. Just seems it would work for a few months, even if we would get fecked over by PSG.
Genuinely think Wenger makes sense for the season. With the only expectation being to improve our football, he's ideal.
He'd be so determined to do well after Mourinho. French, likable. Good football, great choice.

But I'm starting to think a defensive coach is safer to try and steady the ship - Conte.

Conte seems like an awful idea. Does Heynckes speak english? Could he be convinced if thrown a giant bag of money?

Give it Giggsy. That'll stop the clamour to bring back the class of 92 once and for all, and will get the fans united for a bit.

We've been such a miserable lot these past few months, I think something like that would be a shrewd move.
I'd rather Giggs than Carrick. You can't give the job to the head coach or whatever he is when our biggest issue was that we looked poorly coached.

Giggs will at least be a fresh take. I'd even go so far as to say Carrick should be demoted and Butt replace him.

You're right, let's not even try.
I didn't say we wouldn't try but the fact we've come out with such a statement (ie. there will be a caretaker manager until the season) to me suggests we might have tried to contact our preferred choice and they have said not until the summer (eg. my favourite choice right now Poch)

Potential candidates:
  • Marco Rose
  • Ralph Hasenhüttl
  • Erik ten Hag
  • Julian Nagelsmann
  • Pablo Machin
  • Lucien Favre
  • Leonardo Jardim
  • Zinedine Zidane
Hard to pick one.
Would love Nagelsmann, but he has a pre contract agreement with RB Leipzig

Poch won't leave in midseason, so some caretaker now and then go all out for Poch.

Apparently Woodward met him many times.

Jardim until the end of the season. If he does well extend his contract. Even though I don't think he'd ever accept a caretaker position.

Player power wins out.

I couldn't defend Jose in the end though.
Something had to give, I agree there are players in that team who need moving on as well, but this was a necessary step.

The season’s a write off, nothing to lose, may as well get the caretaker (whoever that maybe) to bring back some morale and freedom in play.

The board really need to consider their next appointment and it seems sensible to use the rest of this season to go over their options and assess just what it is they want to see on the pitch, as ultimately it affects their revenue.

Zidane is favourite to be next perm manager but apparently we're going to appoint a caretaker in the next 48 hours. We must have someone already lined up and they're external. Must have good links to the club if they're willing to come in until the summer and help out?

There is absolutely no chance that Poch will leave Spurs just as the new stadium opens. He has been waiting for this for years now.

Has anyone get a link to where it says the club will appoint an external source as caretaker?

Jardim is 16/1 on SkyBet - I've chucked a fiver at him.

Zidane is big favourite - But it seems they've got somebody else lined up to take it permanently at the end of the season, so I think that rules ZZ out as the caretaker.

It'll be Jardim or Conte in my opinion

Yep agreed - Blanc is the only one I can think of. Or for a wild card choice, Cantona as interim

No serious manager worth their salt is taking up a caretaker role. Too much pride for that. Chelsea only got Hidiink because he was mates with Roman and was old anyway and didn’t want a full time gig.
Rafa.

I don't know who is available, but plenty of managers would take a caretaker gig at Utd.

The only way is up, get paid a couple of million and get your name back out there - it will help with the next job. There's also the outside chance of getting the job perm. Lots of people would take it, the limiting factor is that it's only out of work managers who are available.
