Club royally fecked this up, it was clearly never going to be ready when they said it was. Nowhere near.

I agree with @InLevyITrust and think we should just wait till next season to move in. Avoids the complications of people moaning about facing us at a different stadium and whilst I hate Wembley we're managing OK there.
It would be unfair though.

I know it sounds like you might get special dispensation to do it but I don't think it should be allowed.

The new stadium looks fantastic but it's been an absolute disaster how it's been delivered. If you bought a season ticket this year you must be ripping. Levy has probably been advised since early August of how long it was actually going to take, he's been stringing the fans along all season with these briefings(he's known). I can see them playing there last two or three games there. Each briefing dampens expectation from the initial announcement of delays. I wonder how much it's over budget now?

In terms of where the games are played for the rest of the season, it should not be spurs’ decision. They should be told that all remaining games are to be played at Wembley, irrespective of whether the new stadium is ready or not. Otherwise it affects the integrity of the league.

This is the tail wagging the dog.

I don't necessarily disagree, hence why I think we should just wait till next season.

I think it would be better to open up a new season with the new stadium anyway.

I think we should get in there as quickly as possible. I’m hoping players like Chris & Toby might stay at the club when they realise what an incredible theatre NWHL. It’s awesome, best stadium in the world, which many will base future designs on.

Surely we want to secure the EPL title at the new place rather than Wembley

Yeah would just cause more grief and complaining then the media jumping all over it, would be a grim beginning for the stadium. Wait till the end of the season all will be forgotten next season.

I pretty much agree that it should be opened next season, however, from a selfish perspective I hope we play there as soon as possible, I think it could give us a boost for the end of the season.

Is it wise to change the stadium in the middle of the season or near the end of it?
Anyway as much as I like to make fun of the delays and its been a clusterfuk of a job stadium really looks astonishing tbh.

It's a risk for sure, but I don't think our form at Wembley is that amazing anyway, and the lift the supporters would feel would be great. Personally I believe it would be a positive.

I doubt players will stay at a club because they have a cool stadium.

'Oh shit, last week I wanted 200k a week but oh man these heated seats are sick, I'll totally settle for 120'.

You’re quite a negative spurs fan aren’t you? Are you a gooner in disguise?

Obviously, it won’t be just the stadium that convinces them, but this coupled with improved deals will surely assist in their final decisions.

Yeah, absolutely. I'm a gooner in disguise because I don't think a stadium is going to make much of a difference.

The idea that players are going to change their minds about leaving because of a new stadium is hopeful, at best. It might be a factor at the back of their minds but they're going to look at possible trophies, wages, location, manager etc and value that much more than what stadium they play in. That novelty will likely wear off for them after a couple of games, it's pure romanticism to think professional footballers will really look at the stadium as a major factor. As fans we're incredibly excited for it, but it's not the same for them.

I still have hope for Eriksen staying but Toby is gone. He wants a lot more money than we're prepared to offer and the stadium won't change that.

I wonder if they're delaying this until next season, in the event that Utd or Real are in for Poch, then Spurs can turn around and sweet talk him with "Bu-but new stadium! you have to play in it! more matchday revenue! more wages! more transfers! NFL! cheese room!.. don't make us guilt you, mauricio!"

You are an excellent poster on the Caf. Lets just start with that.
But its kinda a ltb Glastonesque to still have hope of Eriksen resigning.
Whats your reasoning behind that?
Eriksen`s next contract will be in the 300k plus region in wages. Do you really think Spurs will break your wage structure for Eriksen? How many hours before Kanes agent is on the phone? Dele Alli?
What is the merit of that hope I guess I am asking.

He's really good and I'm in total denial?

Nah seriously, I don't expect him to stay, it is just hope. There's no genuine expectation there and I'm totally braced for him to go.

As for wage structure, I do think at some point we're going to have to change the way we operate. Players like Kane, Eriksen, Alli and Son need to kept long term if possible, and these are players who can demand top wages. We've done extremely well with their contracts thus far and credit to the club for that, but I think we can see some cracks start to show with the likes of Toby and Eriksen looking to exit. I do think we're also fortunate because Kane has a genuine attachment to the club, otherwise a double pl golden boot/wc golden boot winner would be demanding insane money.

Fair reply.
Do you believe that Kane signed that renewal at such a "relatively" low wage without some kind of release clause though? It might be just if some really top European clubs come knocking and from outside of the PL and for a fair transfer fee. I have no idea.
I accept that Kane is committed to Spurs and in today´s game its really commendable. But that he would sign that long of a contract at that wage without a "backstop" to use a political and probably not that adequate comparison;
I personally dont think that he would have done that.

At this stage they should just hold off until next season altogether. Dont get why theres the latest big fuss over the Arsenal game, there was no way the authorites would allow that game to be the opening game at a new stadium anyway considering it would be classed as high risk.

Plus imagine the humiliation if it was the first game and Arsenal beat them.

Nah, no chance in a million years would Levy let Kane have a release clause.

I think he's just a case of a player who is genuinely delighted to be at a club, very settled with his family in London and happy to look at breaking individual records whilst on 200k a week. We're very lucky to have a star player like him.

Agree with this, I think Kane is happy at Spurs being the main man,
His ''backstop' is that he is the main man and spurs rely so heavily on him and he knows that.
Kane holds all the aces and when the time comes to move he will be able to manoeuvre his way out the exit door fairly easily, but that ain't happening soon.

Stadiums don't mean anything to players, it's a dream to think that your new stadium will away players or Poch to stay, money talks, always has and always will.

If you have little to play for yes, otherwise no. Every comment I've read on changing stadiums indicates that there is a definite adaptation process for the home team when moving. Routines drastically change, players are knocked out of their comfort zone and with the margins being so fine, results often suffer for a bit.

But changing from a temporary Wembley stadium to one where the old stadium used to be and one the fans feel affection to can be a positive as well. It will 100% create a better more positive environment than Wembley for fans right now. If the question was to change from old WHL to the new stadium I would agree, but between Wembley and the new stadium I think it's slightly different. I'm not saying you're wrong, but there are more things to take into consideration since we are playing at a temporary home far away compared to the new stadium.

Personally I think it could also give a lift for the fans, and thus also for the players.

You realise that makes no sense? Then everyone would play for us or city if that was the case surely??
My point is given a 100k a week contract and a new stadium or a £200k a week contract then the choice is obvious.
Remind me how many high profile players have left spurs recently for that precise reason?

Exactly. They're in a fight for top 4, possibly even the league, playing ad hoc at a new stadium could jeopardize their season.

As per UEFA FY 2017 report (published last month) Spurs' wage bill was 148 million euros, in 14th place. Since then after so many contract extensions there is a good chance your wage bill will be even higher. So it's not like they are playing for few pennies or free.

Walker?? Dembele??
Toby potentially about to do the same in a free....
All could have stayed, but went for what?? Trophies and money.

Toby won't go for free, he will go for his release clause this summer.

Walker is pretty much the only example we have of a player leaving recently for bigger money. Dembele is a poor one because the club was clearly happy to let him go due to his injuries and age, it's not like we lost a player in his prime because we weren't prepared to put up the cash.

That said, just because it hasn't happened much recently, doesn't mean it can't happen. With our wage constraints there will always be the risk of losing players and I think Toby and Eriksen will go on to be other examples of this, but hopefully we'll be able to replace them.

Yeah, I think we pay more money in wages than the narrative seem to say we do, still far below the rest of the top 6 however.

Regarding Eriksen, I personally still have hope that he could sign a new deal if Real Madrid and Barcelona doesn't push for him. If he is happy to sign a new deal if the wage is right I think Poch will push hard to get Levy to offer him a good deal. I think a lot will depend on what targets the Spanish giants are after in the summer.

Have to say I really like them putting a single tier Kop style stand behind one of the goals. More new stadia should have that rather than the wrap around three tiers they all seem obssesed about.

Don't really like the dark blue/black seats. I went to Milton Keynes a few years back and it reminds me of that ground, gives image of it being a bit grey and dull tbh, where are the White seats?

What else makes it the best stadium ever out of interest? Good sightlines and coporate facilities but likes of Man. City, Old Trafford and Emirates all already have this.

Got pitch rotation with NFL coming but can't say I'd care much about that if I followed Spurs.

That's the thing, it never really seems to bother the flow of the team too much anymore due to the brilliant background team spurs have.
Bale was the last big name that truly affected you I think.
But, eriksen will be a big loss IF he goes, and would be interesting if someone put in a £100m plus bid for Kane...

I'm fairly certain that as long as Kane wants to stay any offer will be refused even if it was three times that. He is that important to Spurs both on and off the pitch right now. A homegrown world class striker for a club that want to establish itself among the elite is priceless. You're right about Eriksen though, he would be a massive loss.

£100m would be laughed at for Kane. You're talking 200m+ for it even to be feasible with the length of his contract, the fact we could never get close to replacing him, the state of the market right now etc. The only way I could see him leaving is if he forced his way out, which I could never see him doing at all. He's here to stay for the next couple of seasons at least, in my opinion. Maybe if we haven't progressed by then he'll start to look elsewhere, but right now he's clearly very settled at the club and it would take a record transfer fee for Levy to even entertain selling.

Eriksen would be a huge loss, and if we're being honest does look very possible that he could leave. I view him as our second best player after Kane and replacing him would be a massive headache, we'd be left with very little creativity from midfield with him out of the side.

I dunno, I think 300m would certainly make Levy think. That's insane money for a single player.

To be honest, if I thought we would invest the majority of that fee back in to the team and do it sensibly (similar to how Liverpool did it post coutinho sale) I'd be tempted by that kind of fee. Then again, I still remember having to watch the likes of Capoue, Paulinho and Soldado *shudders*.
