We just don't actually know do we? Greenwood hasn't been given a fair chance yet. I hope he starts against Cardiff as we will see what he's got then.
Of course, we don't know anything about the future. However, I don't see players like Angel Gomes and Greenwood making any meaningful contributions to our first team next season. James Wilson and Ravel Morrison also dominated in our U18 and U23 teams, but there is an extremely long way to go from there into becoming a top PL player.

I think if i'm in control of a big club i would sign every young player with potential:lol:One of the most exciting things in Football is see if those youngsters will develop in top players.

Reading the comments above, I think some people might be focusing on the wrong areas of his game.

First off, it'd be great if people stopped comparing him to bloody Giggs and the two Ronaldos. Those are 3 of the most exciting, and effective, players I've ever seen. Then there's Gareth Bale... ok, he's Welsh and quick... can we stop though?

People have automatically jumped to counterattacking and balls over the top, and others are talking about his close control at speed.

This is a £15m 21y/o kid from the Championship. What I'd expect from him is a high work rate, playing at a high tempo. Pressing to win the ball back, and then the ability to keep it. The fact that he can be an out ball on the right (the one we usually find Ashley Young in atm) is great too, and his amazing pace will make him easier to hit. He's exactly the sort of player that can help others around him play their game. Individually he can be dangerous, with that one superpower... but Premier League teams can usually cover that approach. I really hope our fans keep their expectations measured. If they do, we might have a squad player here who makes a real contribution for years to come.

The sad thing is I'm extremely excited about this signing, tore City Apart in the Fa Cup, young British and Hungry, the problem will be when the transfer falls through. I bought 25 shares on football index for the kid at about £1.12 a share so let's sign him up and watch him die for the shirt unlike most of our current prima donnas!
Why would it fall through?

Morrison was good enough and played well for West Ham in the premier league. He just never had the right mentality and preferred to make trouble.

Wilson was good but same again - poor mentality and never kicked on due to bad injuries.

Greenwood and Gomes definitely have the talent, but only they themselves can make the next step. Gomes is a baller but he will have a hard challenge coming up against much bigger men. To be honest though even in the reserves the players are "men", so I don't see him having a problem.

He models himself on Sterling. Seems a better comparison. Similar size, speed, dribbling style. Not saying hes as good obviously

From the video he seems to be dribbling carrying the ball with both his feet. If thats real, then we should be signing him.
The video's been flipped unfortunately, you can see from the sponsors and shirt numbers. James could at least have shaved an eyebrow off to help us notice; lazy player, do not want.

Trade him for Martial. He could not possibly be any worse than today's present excuse for a player.

i've never seen him play or heard of him until today but i'll be very disappointed if he doesn't turn out as good as Giggs.

Not saying you are necessarily wrong, but give us a few examples just in case I'm being too harsh.
I guess off the top of my head:

Tosic, Obertan, Chicharito, Smalling, Jones, De Laet, Manucho, Bebe, Powell

Whether they're successful is another thing. Most of the above were anything but. But they weren't seasoned professionals by any means. There was youth and promise, that's all.

Edit:
Going back further: djemba djemba and fortune were nobodies and I remember thinking the same when they signed

Our current manager was one. We’re going way back with that but it definitely used to happen. Ronaldo could be argued to be one as well.

In today's market, 15mill is peanuts! Yeah he's been at Championship level but if were to sit and wait for him to mature we may lose out. Get the signings done early and let them gel somewhat before the start of the season.
Why we became a club signing players with a week or so to go is beyond me!

Must say that's the attitude of someone that's not followed United closely enough during Sir Alex's days or has forgotten. It's exactly the kind of punt on promising youth we used to make. We haven't seen all that much of it lately so it's a welcome change if true.
Basically you have proved that your post was rubbish.
I think you've mistaken what my original comment was (above) with someone else. Because that list is exactly what I said - taking a chance on promising youth. Or you're just being too sassy for me, Colin.

Haha not meant as anything negative! I just remember us signing him and thinking 'ive no idea who this guy is' but young and talented if the scouts like him

Last year of his contract, so certainly worth a gamble. I think 10m has been said as the asking pricing, which is peanuts nowadays. Sure Ole will get a first hand report from Giggs in his character too if we are interested.
A character reference... From a guy who screws his brothers wife... Honestly I'm not sure that is worth much

That's not how it works in the Cafe. Posters are drawing their lines and chosing their future camps. He's either shit or the new Ronaldo, no inbetweens here and your rational and intelligent post is worthless.

Good post.

We do a terrible job making lazy player comparisons. If he comes in give him a chance before building him up to be something he isn't or knocking him before having a clue how he fits in.

It also doesn't mean we won't be signing a RW that could make more immediate impact. It's a long summer.

We as a fan base need to find some patience.

Smalling came from championship? Despite people's opinions and his limitations, 10m was a good piece of business.

You're both right. It's just typical online hysteria. 1 plus 1 equals 463.

Aside from the sister in law banging he probably knows a thing or two about what it takes to be a top level footballer at United character wise.

Man run fast.

Hope he's got football intelligence or it won't mean shit. Aaron Lennon was lightning quick but his decision making for most of his career was awful.

Aaron lemon was a great little player for a while. If James reaches anything like that we will be happy IMO. I remember he was the only guy that made Evra poop himself regularly.

We haven't even signed him and people already comparing him to Bale, Giggs, Ronaldo.

This is why We can't have nice things. I bet Ed Woodward is similar.

He did do this but he also spent about 30 games of the season Valencia'ing the ball into full-back shins.

It’s a sensible addition (if true) at 15 million nobody can really slag him off and the pundits can’t really lay into him either!

If he turns out terrible then...you get what you pay for!

I have seen few people saying he can pass the ball with both feet. In the videos l watched it's just a mirrored video, he was using right foot almost all the time.
