It was classless just like their celebrations over Thailand at 10-0 up. Can't think of another country that would behave in such a way. Even though it wasn't that offensive to the English celebrating in a mocking fashion of your opponents is very typically American

They still don't have girls teams! I just assumed they would by now.
The goals after 10 broke the record for biggest ever World Cup win, think the celebrations were fair play personally. I don’t think elite sports people should ever feel guilty of breaking records on the elite stage and not celebrate it. Opinions though of course and others will feel differently.

When you're dicking a team to the point where they're getting embarrassed, having massive OTT celebrations is 100% classless and disrespectful IMO. Have a quite little smile and celebration with your teammates but there's no need to take the piss.

The Thailand team were practically amateurs compared to them. But I really don't think anyone can ever expect class or good sportsmanship from an American sports team, so that and the Alex Morgan celebration didn't surprise me one bit.

I do feel differently. I felt City were classless in their destruction of Burton too. That said, I feel laying waste to over matched opponents is one thing but celebrating it like that is just gratuitous and in bad taste.

Am I the only one who thought Alex Morgan’s “cup of tea celebration” was actually supposed to represent dragging on a spliff?
I don't think so. She raised the pinky in the way of correctly observed tea drinking etiquette. I guess you could call it a lazy English stereotype if you were that way inclined.

My interpretation was definitely wrong. Just wondering if anyone else made the same mistake. Thought it was a hell of a baller move, so was disappointed when the tea explanation came out!

No idea if it's true, but I honestly can't stand Alex Morgan. She looks like a massive fecking prick. Or whatever the female equivalent of a prick is.

She's just a less scary Hope Solo.
Aye, another one I don't understand all the fawning over. Well, I understand, but neither are very appealing people to me.

Also, what's Solo's deal, she's a goal keeper, everyone knows it's the person who's too shite to play outfield goes on goal. Act your position.

What are you guys on about. Alex Morgan is a dream feck to all sports fans and the tea celebration was, imo, a bit of harmless banter.

Ah I wasnt on about the celebration, I love a bit of mocking. I just dislike her general, I dunno, aura? It's just so American. Not to say I dont like Americans, but I suppose in the sense of the mean girl in an American high school movie.

Nah, I know exactly what the mean. Get the exact same aura from Hope.

Like you say .. that kind of bitchy high school girl that ends up being a suburban 'mom' with a fake smile plastered on 24/7. She's just got that general vibe to her.

I might be completely wrong and she's lovely, tbf.

In case you want someone to cheer:

I'm hoping that the Netherlands win and I'm hoping they can then bring a lot of fans to the final. Their fans have been great at this tournament and the numbers and the noise have been building up with every game from them.

The atmosphere for the final could be terrific if a wall of orange gets going.

On the other hand, Sweden - er, well, may the best team win I guess

Bit flat after yesterday's England exit. But I'll be watching again tonight so any predictions for tonight's game? I'm going for 2-1 to holland.

Excellent. Judging by the shirt number she’s a striker?

And it's not just England where the WWC is getting attention.

The BBC has had TV rights (for free!) for the WSL for a couple of years, but they've always shuffled them round somewhere between the red button and online, with only an occasional slot on BBC1/2. The England team weren't treated much differently until this year.

It always felt as if they were embarrassed about the accusation they were just being "politically correct" - I think they'll be braver about it now. :smirk:
BT has the main right for WSL afaik. BBC sometimes cover games online via a stream or live text, not sure I've seen a league game on BBC TV before but I could be wrong as very rarely check them in fairness.

Find it incredible that Thailand kept a clean sheet for the longest against USA so far this tournament. Great trivia question.

BBC and BT in theory had the option for a match each weekend last year, plus highlights. The FA WSL Facebook page sometimes streamed a game if one of them didn't bother.

Definite start times would help, particularly if they steered clear of men's televised matches. There's even a suggestion of the 3pm Saturday slot being used for a televised women's match - though that needs some changes in regulations of course.

The other important thing is for it to continue to be free to air. It needs to cash in on the exposure, get people through the gates by making itself mainstream before it starts looking at things in straightforward revenue terms.

Thought Morgan was referencing the boston tea party yesterday.

Anyway, England played very well and created great chances on the deck to score, took one beautifully but unfortunately another was a fraction offside and would probably be a goal without VAR and the last ended up a penalty which was missed. I think England have progressed to more than match the US even though the semi-final is where it ends again.

Even in Ireland (who have no skin in the game at all) the England/USA game hit 20% viewership, with audiences having grown steadily throughout the tournament.

This WWC has generated by far the most interest in women's football I've seen from the people I know too.

Sweden looking way more likely, especially on the counter. Dutch take it up Sweden's end and do feck all with it then the Swedes counter.

Rooting for Sweden, really like the way they play with pace, power and technical abilities going forward.

Yesterday's game was more entertaining for the neutral fan. I cannot see NL or SWE beating the Yanks in the final.

The USWNT is so unlikeable, really hope they lose the final. Sadly it looks unlikely...

The Dutch are being extremely nervous and sloppy yet again. Still kind of an amazing story they ve had over what has been a near meteoric rise.

Sweden looking to capitalize on the shaky Dutch defense by throwing more at them up front.
