I am not sure comparing Barca and City with our team will give us an accurate picture. Afterall we rarely dominate over 70% possession these days...
Maybe that is what we should concentrate on then? Dominating possession may not always mean dominating the game but it definitely helps. Possession starts from the back and Maguire fits the profile and maybe so does Lindelof.

Only mind boggling thing is surely we could have got him for that price, or even a touch less, before we went on tour if it wasn't for Ed's inability to multitask (or appoint a DoF type)?
How ? Why ? Where's the logic in any of this ?

Let’s just remember that until very recently Valencia-Smalling-Jones-Young was a fairly regular starting back 4 for us.

Weird to think that this'll be the first season we won't be consistently playing a SAF player in the back four.

It has little to do with wanting to dominate possession, everything to do with how we want to build our attacks and not constantly giving the ball away every time it's passed to someone in the back 4. It's key to have a cb that's comfortable with the ball and can advance forward in midfield to force the opposition into either putting pressure on him and freeing up space or allowing him to advance with the ball.

Id say we were the biggest laughing stock when we had a backline with Jones rojo and Young in it. Get a grip

It's similar to the AWB transfer. You have paid well over the odds, but he is miles better than any of your current options.

If the Lukaku Dybala swap comes off then you've actually had a really good window.

So it ended at £80m? Where did all the bullshit about them demanding £95m come from exactly? Glad we got him (if we have - all the fake news got me wearing my tinfoil hat ), think he's exactly what we need. We might actually have a 1st choice back four for the first time in ages. Although I still believe 3rd is what we're fighting for with or without any signings at this point.

Exactly, and many fans on here doesnt seem to understand this. Some are even acting like those 80m would be better off in the Glazers fecking pockets..

Finally a balanced look to the back 4. A LCB who is comfortable in that position.
This cannot be understated. It also allows Lindelof to play on his preferred right side where he is most effective. Too often he was switched to LCB to accommodate the bumbling brothers Jones and Smalling.

Yes it is huge huge fee and we don't all agree is he worth all of that money! But we needed to reinforce our back line and with Bisaka and Maguire I think it will be and should be much more solid. We don't want to see Jones Smalling Young again and that will happen. Market gone crazy for me he only worth half of that but we can sell now and we should sell the likes of Darmian and Rojo.

Ole is getting the backing he wants it seems. No complains.

One more signing in our weakest area now the midfield and we can smell some new air hopefully.

Anyone else wants to see a Maguire Tuanzebe partnership rather than him being paired with Lindelöf or is it only me? I'd make Maguire and Axel the first pair if fit.

From
Young-Jones-Smalling-Valencia

To
Shaw-Maguire-Lindelof-Van Bissaka

Not bad...

Brilliant signing,

Definitely will settle the nerves of not just our defence but the team in general.

Very underrated how great ball playing defenders make a difference to the composure of the whole team.

A signing that will make a huge difference to our side. Already looking forward to the new season.

Bring on Chelsea

Good bit of business. People laughed at the fee Liverpool paid for Van Dijk as well until the collective balance and lift he gave the entire squad with his presence, leadership and aerial dominance. Maguire won't be the same level of an athlete as Van Dijk but he adds up to another core player in a position of need.

Lolol , get a grip Sally. Stay of twitter if you are that concerned about what “Football” has to say. I don’t know how some of you dolts get through a single day of life.

I think his immediate partner will be Smalling tbh. Smalling is rapid, which is Maguire's Achilles heel. He's also been at OT for a long time which will give time for Maguire to settle down.
