Look at the France squad. Our best striker or best attacking prodigy couldn't make that team. Perhaps it's a team and platform which elevated him rather than him elevating them?

Well, for what it’s worth, Martial was working his way back on the team until an injury took that away from him but his competition is pretty daunting between all the options France have up front. He will be back again, but can he establish himself long term? We will see. Ousmane Dembele is looking more and more like a ‘could’ve been’ so his opportunity will come.

As far as Pogba, the team around him certainly helped but he was playing a role much more focused on defense and retention of the ball and found ways to be dangerous on the offense. I think the simple answer is it’s a little bit of both. It’s hard to deny that Pogba elevated the French team in the knockout stages, just like the French team elevated his play by keeping it simple and having a cover like Kante & Matuidi to clean up next to him.

I thought he was good last night. Its a pity we dont have a couple more players of his calibre in the team, it would take the pressure off him. Ive started to notice when he gets the ball he is instantly closed down by opposition, sometimes two at a time. The oppo managers obviously see what most of us dont. He can hurt teams if he has the time and space. We need more players to take the pressure of him.

Thats it's; it to do with him not getting space or time on the ball - poor little pogba. If he has men closing why not just, one touch then pass - not this insta player flicks and a turns is what we need, too many touches on the ball.

If he is wondering why players are static and looking at him with the ball - it's because their wondering if they will need to run back when he loses the ball.

Yea but he doesnt lose the ball and the turning on the ball is because hes been closed down. He is one of the best players in the league at not conceding possession, someone postdd the stats in here recently. You should read the whole thread.

I'm not reading the whole thread because i know what i see:
https://ibb.co/5rcj8YR Last season he lost the ball more times than Lukaku with 89 times, these are dispossessed stats not missed passes. Also more that any other MF player in the EPL.

But hey its not his fault

By the way this year he is 5th, also there are no Liverpool or City players in the top 18 says it all really.

you can argue that this is partly due to so much creative responsibility being thrust on him, and the fact we have such shite forwards that he has to hang onto the ball too long.

but i agree, he does lose the ball a lot. but for me his positives outweight the negatives, and he should shine brighter in a team where he wasn't so obviously the only class outfield player.

He should go to the highest bidder.

Our best player by a mile, not denying it. But he rarely plays to 100% of his capacity and we'd get a fairly eye-watering amount of money for him. Also, if the stories about his wage demands are true then he's kind of just taking the piss, its basically a way of saying he's still looking to leave.

If we can get £120m or so for him, get the likes of Maddison & Partey for in and around that amount and push on in other positions with a starting net spend of zero then I think it's for the best.

Really... Matt Ritchie had 8 assets, were as Pogba had 9 last season what's the difference one is "world class" the other is from Hampshire. Are we saying here that Newcastle have more class player than us?

For me he is not a center mid he is a attacking midfielder, the problem is that teams know they sit back and counter because sooner or later we will lose the ball and have no cover in the midfield because our MF is jogging / walking back looking like a little kid.

Sorry he is just to slow on the ball for me with the ball and the crazy thing is he shouldn't be.. he should pick that up and in less than three touches pass it or drive into space.

Keano was on Monday night football and he all he was good at was passing, tacking and moving - that's all we need

Watch his comments on him at @ 2:44 about Pogba;

i agree he shouldnt be playing in a midfield 2. it's painfully clear since his juve days you will only get the best out of him with a midfield 3. jose and now ole both seem intent on forcing him to play an unnatural game. and he doesn't have the character to want to change his game.

Actually mad that McTominay was further forward than Pogba.

It's because his positioning is very poor and his passing even worse. The bad thing is that Pogba's positioning, while better than McT's is not particularly good either, but he is forced to play there because none of our other midfielders can even start a positional attack from our own half.

I think the best investment we can make now is a player that can sit deep and spray the ball around(in Carrick, Matic mould). He could allow Pogba to be played further and McT to play a more box-to-box role and generally bring some balance to our midfield.

I think Pogba,United,Ole and Raiola have all come to a agreement that if a top bid were to arrive from a major European club abroad, and one where Pogba and Raiola are happy with the personal details, then he'll be off.
I think Pogba and Raiola respect United's and Ole's stance in this which is why I think the rumours are only minimal at this point.

From Pogba's pov its fully understandable IF he wants to leave.
Positively or negatively United wont be competing for the top honours for a potential 2/3 seasons. Pogba ,due to his age and profile in the game, cannot wait that long.

From United's pov I dont see it as a big loss playing wise.
For Pogba to consistently perform he needs to be around top players. He hasn't got that at United currently and you can easily argue that its going to be sometime before that arises again anytime soon.
At this moment United are only getting a 50% Pogba. Pogba is unable to get the best out of his team-mates and his team-mate,more importantly, are unable to get the best out of him.
Really,it's abit of a lost cause for everyone.
The all action player United need isn't in Pogba and it's never been. The UK media had Pogba set-up as the next Patrick Vieira or Robbo and that simply has never been his style.

Commercially United will take a hit, though. No doubt about it.
I cant see United,if they continue down this transfer route ,bringing in another World renowned big name, not that they're exactly in a fashionable or a positive position to do so currently.

Overall I would be surprised if Pogba were to remain at United past next summers transfer window.
We're very unlikely to get European football next season,CL or EL. So from a personal viewpoint I dont see where the temptation to remain at United is with Pogba.
Money cant be the sole reason as he'll get a nice contract wherever he ends up.

He seems to give the ball away quite a lot, which for somebody of his ability is disappointing, but there are 2 reasons why this seems to happen so regularly.

1) He always wants the ball. No matter where he is, who is around him, he always wants the ball.
2) He always tries to make something happen. Which is where he's let down, he tries to force it.

But both attributes are something that are clearly lacking in the team.

Lingard will rarely give it away, because he doesn't fecking want it. The amount of times he'd go and stand behind 3 arsenal players before 'asking' for the ball. He was coasting through, knowing he wasn't going to impact the game because he doesn't want to.

The scrutiny on Pogba is obvious, because he's our best player.

He just needs to be coached better in the deeper role and learn not to try and force it so much.

He's finished 2 games in a row despite having a fecked ankle. If he didn't care would he not have gone off??

Just something for the mob to consider.....

Sounds like he’s going to be out for a few games so the mob will have their wish! I hope they enjoy Matic for the foreseeable.

Whatever anyone says, I believe Pogba has good intentions for Manutd. It is a shame that we have not given him the platform to succeed at this club. If we were challenging, I believe PP would be the best player in the league.

Following a specialist's opinion, Paul Pogba requires a period of further rest and conservative treatment for the foot injury he sustained during the game against Southampton in August. Updates will follow in due course.

Bodes well.

Always the victim? The player's around him are crap, he needs to play more forward, his ankle is broken, INSERT HERE.

I'm just saying.. he needs to limit himself to three touches and move or drive into space.

Those were not excuses...

I think most agree he needs to play better.

But saying he doesn't care about United is another thing

Cant blame him. Az their stadium roof broke down so they will play in ADO their stadium in Den Haag. A stadium with a fake pitch. Artificial grass.. you really dont want to play a match on that when you are already injured.

Then we should really put AWB, Maguire in cotton wool and leave them in Manchester.

A draw will be a good result.

I’m not entirely sure I understand the “needs better players around him” argument. Are we saying then that if he played for someone like Brighton he’d still not stand out as the best player on the pitch each week? Shouldn’t the really talented players look better than those around them? Pogba doesn’t. When was the last time you watched a game and genuinely thought he was our best player on the pitch in that match? The comeback against city a year and a half ago? Maybe during the run after Ole came in as caretaker...but nothing immediately springs to my mind.

Seems to me like he is a luxury player, not someone you want in your side if things aren’t going well. Ozil-esque I suppose.

Not convinced about the stick him in as a #10 argument either. If he’s losing the ball playing DLP then what’s he going to do further up the pitch where there’s even less time on the ball?

Edit: According to the match day area, it looks like he was voted MOM against west ham back in April, personally I don’t remember anything particularly special about that game.

He's a kind of long ball and flicks version one of those midfielders who only lends you the ball, its not really team play. I agree that the other players must be wondering about his intent. We just scream out for someone metronomic to get things ticking, someone for Pogba to work his skills around

I'm not saying he doesn't care about Utd, I think he does - but does he care about his image more?

I'm wondering what his skills are because:
His vision is great and seems to not be able to execute a pass consistently.
His touch is good but seems inconsistent like he's off balance in some way
He has the power to run passed a player, yet falls over or loses control of the ball
His long shots are good apparently, i've not seen one in well..... ages.

So, he's been playing injured and out of position as a DM? Damn, not bad!

What was the point of playing him for 90 minutes against fecking Rochdale if all it was going to do was worsen his injury.

Good thing we played him whole 90 minutes straight from the injury against mighty Rochdale!

That doesn't mean he's a DM.
Okay, well being the deepest midfielder in a midfield two is, imo, a hindrance to not only us as a team, but his qualities as a player, too. So, to be playing in said role - whilst injured - and still being our only creative force is, to me, quite impressive.

It would have been a crisis if we'd lost to rochdale

It already is, this is our worst league start for 30 years and we've scored less than a goal a game since Ole got the permanent job. It was obvious watching the last two games Pogba wasn't at full fitness and now we might be without him for much longer.

2/3 seasons is only covering themselves. If we can mange to get the players we need in the next 2 windows starting in January, and next summer, then we could be contesting next season. Of course we need the backing for this to happen. I think we need 5 players, 2 in January ( Attacking Midfielder and a CF) then the other 3 in the summer, DM midfielder, a RW, and a Box to box Midfielder. We would be ready to challenge.

Played through injury to finish the Southampton game. Rushed back to face the mighty Rochdale. Injury flamed up again.
Rushed back to play Arsenal, again finishes the game but aggrivates that injury.
All that threatens his participation for France, where he has had an easier ride in recent times with the media and fans, and I could imagine is a welcome escape from the constant barrage of criticism, especially from former United players.

And still every other comment here is that he doesn't care...just an absurd conclusion.
