I actually think this is pretty cut and dry. It’s pretty obvious he is not 100% committed to the team. We can debate about his merits and consistency as a performer all we want, but he has never really been given a proper chance in a quality set-up under a capable, modern manager.
It doesn’t really matter whose fault it is at this stage, all that matters is that he doesn’t fully want to be here and that should be the end of it.
United are a massive club that, for me, has always stood out for how classy they were. No need to degrade ourselves and pander to someone who doesn’t want to be here. No need to slander or get angry about it either.
Shake his hand, get what we can for him, and invest that money bringing in a few quality young players who are excited to play for United.
Ole isn’t good enough for me, but if he leaves a squad for the next manager that is hungry and happy to be at such a massive club, this process will probably have been worth it.
