He did but as a Man Utd Centre forward leading the line there must be more consistent output from him imo. One assist does not mean he played well or had a good game.
How about you judge the game and players in context. You lots love acting as if other strikers out there are pulling off miracles without services and such. He didn't have his best game which given the lack of service is quite understandable. Acting like contributing in a tough game against a tough opponents should be completely dismissed because of some random notion and fantasy which state that a man United player has to pull off miracles every second doesn't make your claim any less ridiculous.

Some of you should really start watching other team play and see how their strikers pull off miracles without service, not like Martial isn't even contributing. He almost has 1 in 1 contribution goal/assist wise the last 5 or so games. But no, he isn't doing anything right according to you.

We lacked final pass today and Martial did the dirty work well. People here are just too reactive. Every striker has these kind of games and Martial delivered when it was required. Jumping on his back after one performance shows how fickle fans have become.

Thought he was ok today. Came up with the assist when we needed it.

The piece of play towards the end where he held the ball with 3 defenders around and passed to Pereira was brilliant though. Not many players can do that.

Hit and miss. Couple of good things but couldn’t seem to make the ball stick to him and we seemed to struggle to get it to him. When Rashford came on he all of a sudden seemed to us his performance.

Ole has instilled some fight and fire in his game. Worked hard for the assist but still had a pretty poor game overall. Sign of a good player he can make his mark whilst not playing great. Happened vs Norwich as well.

You could argue if he actually leads the line though can't you due to the positioning he takes alot of the match?

The same with Firmino who would struggle here if he got put next to James on the right hand side or as seen today on the left hand side - he just like Martial needs two goal scorers around him so he can be a support striker.

For some reason Ole has games where he perfects the tactics - by using a support striker like Martial and two forwards like Rashford & Greenwood - or in other games where he may try martial centrally usually with Daniel James on the right who isn't deadly enough to interlink with Martial the way we saw with his pass to Mata today.

Wonder if wolves fans are on traveling back saying Jimenez is abysmal.

What a strange, strange fan base this is

Not great today but abysmal seems a bit over the top...

Good assist and he did what he could against all those centre backs.

This is not just pertaining to Martial but reading the Caf one would think players from other teams always deliver brilliant performances with no average ones in between, which is why we read some ridiculous posts. This is the problem when people only watch other teams players highlights.

Abysmal performance, can't remember him doing anything!
How the over the top is this comment? It certainly wasn't his best performance but if you think that's abysmal then I question if you've even seen half our games these last few years. He had a decent chance in the first half, and his pass for the goal was excellent. He also had a nice pass towards the end to set up Pereira too.

His role in the team is as much as bringing the other attacking players into play as it is scoring goals. I'm not saying he had an amazing game but it as fine, with a nice assist. Nothing to moan and lose your shit about.

This exactly. Our strike force have been scoring and contributing consistently yet reading some posts in here one would think they are Bebe level. I bet most people on these boards won't believe that the trio of Martial, Rashford and Greenwood are outscoring the LIverpool one in all competition(Mane, Salah and Firminho) and are just barely 2 goals shy from their tally in the PL despite having played less minutes. And we're talking about players lacking serious midfield support creativity wise especially.

Come down on these boards and some lots would have one believe we have mediocre players in attack. Like Scholes said, Man United attack should be up there with the best provided they get enough creativity and even despite lack of it, they're still delivering the goods.

He was absolutely shite tonight and anyone who tries to say he was good is kidding themselves.

I’ll give him credit where it’s due but that was rubbish.

I’ve been in four performance threads now and each one is full of criticism!! How about we support our players?

He was relatively quiet but lets face it, it was hardly a match that suited attackers in any way, it was snail paced stuff from both sides.

When he did have the chance to impact he absolutely did! Conned the first defender with the bounce and rounded the second before playing Mata in perfectly. What else do you want him to do?

The play that lead to the goal was fantastic center forward play. Sealed the defender, spun him with the bounce and set Mata through.

Was one of those cant be arsed performances from Tony today.

Found it hard to recieve the ball in the pockets due to Wolves being so compact.

His best bits came from the left, especially in the first half. Two good moments that resulted in a shot from himself and Mata. Did very well for the goal. Other than that, a quiet one for Tony tonight.

Can't be arsed?

He didn't look lazy at all just that he slipped on the floor twice & had some bad first touches in the first half.

Come on man, the ball bounced over his head and the incoming defender sold himself. It was then all the space and time in the world to play a simple pass.

I’m not trying to rip him for shit but for such a good player people really do cream themselves over the simplest things.

Was a clever pass from Martial. Not sure if intentional but he seemed to know the man he was passing to in that he knocked it just infront of Mata

If it was Rashford he might’ve put more on it and played it towards the box for him to speed on to

Didn't do a lot wrong today. He was starved of the ball at times. We were so passive on the ball, particularly in midfield, that he didn't really get the opportunity to effect the game. Got that all important assist.

Very good!

Created 4 chances - more than anyone else. Got a great assist. Held the ball up well and brought others into play the rare times he received the ball. Was second only to Traore in dribbles won. Pressed decently, and was vocal in talking Greenwood through the game.

Had very, very little to go off. He was basically tasked with carrying our attack. Lovely assist. Did the job.

This is something I never understand. Good players can disappear for 85 minutes and then do something in the five minutes to win the match. I remember when Gullit was getting popular and the British commentators saying but he doesn't take the game by the scruff of the neck unlike the British players. This was the pre match of the England vs Holland game in the Euro 1988 I think. Holland beat England 3-1. True Gullit didn't do much apart from creating two goals for Van Basten. I don't care if Martial sulks for 85 minutes but he helps us in winning the match.

Saying he was abysmal today isn’t exactly the same as saying he’s abysmal full stop. I didn’t watch the game, so I have no opinion.

Said it many times, he’s always two games away from distrust and being dismissed by many. His good form is always temporary respite.

Not sure how you can show anything with having to create your own chances. No disrespect to those young players but it's not easy being sandwiched between them. Tony is a top player but like other players, they are suffering from the lack of quality around them....

Thought he was fairly poor today, noticeable again at times how static he is up front.

He did really well to set up Mata for the goal though which ultimately won the game so it all turned out fine.

Literally all our forwards - Rashford, Martial, James, Greenwood & Mata create their chances themselves.

When they go bust its unfair to single the attack out because they are hardly our weakest area.

Today wolves seemed to have the space between the defensive midfield and attacking midfield and the space between the defence and the defensive midfielders to themselves.

Exactly. Came in to say this, but instead see people describe his performance as "abysmal" and "shite"

His play to hold up the ball against three defenders and releasing Pereira was very good, as was his dribble past two players in the box towards the end of the game. We already know martial has a full bag of tricks. Now he is adding guile and graft and taking up greater responsibility as our focal point in attack. Yet some people here are only interested in picking apart his game and criticise him.

This forum is really toxic
