We are abiding by its rules since we're playing our replay tonight.

It's also not our job to fund the lower league teams - if they need FA Cup money to keep their heads above the water, the whole structure of the English football league is wrong. I've seen people say we let them lose out on a lot of money because we're fielding a weakened side, but I could just as well argue the opposite and say that everything they get from tonight is a bonus since there wouldn't even be a replay if we had played our first XI in the first leg.

The only thing which is weird here for me is Klopp's unwillingness to manage the game, but seems like he's just trying to get his point across to the FA. All other "look at the foreigner devalue our domestic competition" is just bullshit imo.
The reason Klopp is getting some criticism is not because he is some foreigner ffs. The fact that he completely chose to not even show up is for sure devaluing the cup. No other manager has done that before even with all the replays.

Irrational.

Klopp's bitterness and anti-domestic cup sentiment has cost Shrewsbury some much needed TV money as the televised tie is now Oxford-Newcastle. He may be a top manager but he really is pathetic. Does he really think playing one game against the team 16th in League One will leave his players so exhausted and broken that they'll squander a 22 point lead at the top of the table?

He's fecking pathetic and spiteful, couldn't take the fact a plucky team two divisions below him had the gall to get a draw.

Worst thing is, they will probably win tonight
Yeah :(. I will watch and celebrate like if we have won CL if they go out (ok maybe not that much ;)).
Not just because they go out, but it would make the Klopp move backfire too.

Chelsea next could still knock them out since I expect rotation then too if they advance.

His comments regarding missing the game are an embarassment. He should be fined but he won't be. Anyone who defends those comments are deluded. I can definitely understand resting players, but not attending the game is bizarre. This isn't Liverpool U23, whatever team you decide to put out.

He has lowered the value of the FA Cup and League Cup by playing all kids, even when it isn't necessary because of the healthy PL lead. If a smaller team had done this, they would have been fined - this has happened already in the past I think for a league game?

Milner is there watching and giving Klopps instruction! He is the real leader behind the scenes anyway.

Thanks
You guys are fecking 22 points clear, stop this bullshit that we only care about the PL.
That's in the bag, so why not go for the FA cup? This is what no one understands.
As for Fergie playing a weak team , that was my answer to another one of your scouse friends who was suggesting I was an idiot for saying Fergie didn't go and try to win all the league games.
Erm...think he is.

Unbelievable how they still win while totally being uninterested in the game and competition to the point of putting such a lineup.

They're going to win the treble this season.

I have to be honest...got no problem with the line up or him not being there. There’s levels to this shit. And when your currently on their level, the FA cup means nothing.

It’s an awkward fact. But it’s still true.

If they win the FA cup whilst blooding the kids it further proves my point.

I mean, City swept the 2 cups last season and it was little more than an afterthought... if Klopp crashed out of the cup would anyone really care?
To be honest, not at all. I would rather we put all our efforts in the PL and CL. FA Cup has a history but there is little incentive to go for it besides bragging rights.

Liverpool make me scratch my head a bit. United surely have the better youth talent than them from what I’ve seen yet their sides are above us in every single age bracket points wise

We genuinely seem to have quality youth though... The kind of quality we haven’t had in years.

Greenwood, Levitt, Laird, Gomes, Chong, Williams. Liverpool can’t compete with that on individual youth talent surely...

Am I just overestimating how good United’s talent is atm? Chong and Gomes seem destined to leave us anyways and I understand we move players to the first team.

You would expect a better showing from both our U18 and our much maligned U23 sides though surely if we have this incredible youth culture?

Just because you hear about and see certain players more, doesn't neccessary make them better. It's nowadays extremely difficult to judge youngsters as some are just there for money instead of hard work....

Yes. After all this time, in 2019, Jürgen Klopp is the guy who lowered the value of the FA cup by not turning up during the week his employer gave him off. So, to sum up:

"He has lowered the value of the FA Cup and League Cup by playing all kids, even when it isn't necessary because of the healthy PL lead."

But at the same time,

" I can definitely understand resting players, but not attending the game is bizarre."

Klopp is getting away with nonsense, has a big leverage currently, all because he is "winning". Other EPL teams also played with their main squad, but Klopp thinks he is special and he wants his own rules, and even his employer have to agree with him.

But I also sympathize with him, earlier in League Cup, FA was adament that rules and rules, and didn't change their QF dates. So Klopp has now used the same reason to get his holidays...

Do you honestly think that Klopp won't be working during the two week break?
I'd be surprised if they weren't training or having meetings etc.
Not showing up to a game which was his team's fault they had to play is pretty poor and smacks of an arrogance beyond belief.

They've all gone on holiday

Milner was at Melwood for a few extra days with his rehabilitation, and was also there in the dressing room last night offering support

But everyone else had gone on holiday, not fumbling around arrogantly at Training

It paid off for Klopp, and it massively paid offfor the U23’s gaining Unprecedented experience

fantastic really

I don't really like the idea of Klopp not coaching the team, and I wish he played more senior players in the domestic cups over the past few years, but I do think he was kind of forced into it by the FA.

There really is too much fixture congestion for teams who are competing in Europe, and it's not Liverpool's responsibility to look out for the financial wellbeing of clubs in lower leagues. Other countries are doing just fine without multiple domestic cups and a bunch of replays.

People want to act like the FA Cup is important, but winning it didn't help LVG or Wenger, and Arsenal fans had been complaining for years about his silverware drought.

Also, when they announce a winter break, it needs to be a real break. Klopp was completely right to give his players a break, as they need it and had likely been looking forward to it for months. Him taking his break as well is the best way for him to get his message taken seriously.

To some extent, I think it's a folly to try to measure youth set-ups as a lot of it is based on very limited information. However, given Liverpool won the Youth Cup last season I suspect it's a pretty healthy picture. That said, the only true test is how many do a 'Trent' and convert into genuine first team starters. Of Liverpool's young players, the obvious talent coming through is Elliott as he's incredibly good at such a young age. Curtis Jones may make it as may Williams at right-back but who knows really. They only have to be marginally below the standard to not make it - a brutal business.

It's his prerogative. As someone else said. It's not his responsibility to look after the financial wellbeing of opponents. This ain't no charity.

Klopp's bitterness and anti-domestic cup sentiment gave Shrewsbury a rematch at Anfield and possibly a 5th round fixture at Stamford Bridge. How convenient to overlook that.

Yes, you are probably overestimating our youth talent. The sad fact is that most young players that fans get excited about at one point don't make it.

There's also the fact that you probably watch our youth teams much more than Liverpool's.

This is some 'take'.

1. Liverpool dropped ticket prices - that would have happened had Klopp been there or not. I've never known a club to be criticised for doing this until now. Odd.
2. It's not in Klopp's gift to dictate who is shown on TV. The game that was shown was very good by the way so justified that decision.
3. The line-up was perfectly justified given the result - is Klopp supposed to play better players to please outside markets, lads on internet forums and broadcasters?
4. Shrewbury aren't owed anything - they were drawn out of a hat to play Liverpool. The idea that such arbitrary randomness should dictate who earns money from the FA Cup is an issue in itself - the distribution of money is terribly random. No lower-league club budgets for this anyway.
5. I suspect Klopp's stance will irradiate this from happening again which is good for all.
6. The Shrewbury manager was on radio last night and said that it wasn't Klopp's fault - it was the PL and FA who had messed up.

But apart from that, yes, Klopp is bitter and twisted!!!

I think you're underrating Liverpool more than anything. Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliot are ranked as two of England's best youth players on par with the players that you mentioned. United's u23s have beaten lower league senior sides in the EFL trophy this year. They went out in a narrow loss against Tranmere who knocked Watford out of the FA Cup.

Also doesn't it depend on who is playing for U18s and U23s? AFAIK, we have promoted most of our U18 players to U23s (remember us playing team full of 17-19 year old in U23 games) and have young players in first team who are eligible to play for youth teams. Our U18 must be full of first year scholars.

Love it,
The arrogance in your post is enough to show how correct I am!

It nearly didn't pay off, but once again I'll Reiterate, Klopp and his team's poor show in the first game led to this game happening.

I guarantee they will be back in training in a few days, I also guarantee that Klopp is still working.

It was a no lose situation for Liverpool last night, win and we get the ' brilliant performance from the youngsters, great experience, gamble paid off', had they lost it would have been 'we are concentrating on the league, didn't need the extra games' etc.

Tbh lads the treble is easily on for them. It almost likely at this stage. They can walk over every British team as we all know and I've never seen a worse set of teams in Europe. Barca and Madrid are Mediocre. Juve are decent but not Liverpool and I don't really see City or PSG beating them 9 times out of 10 either.

I could use your logic and say United have lowered the value of the PL because they let so many players go without replacement. I could also argue that those bottom teams in the PL lower its value because they aren't buying the best players around.

I could say, United have lowered the value of the PL because they haven't sacked Ole for worst run UTD have ever had.

I could say Arsenal have lowered the value of the PL for their worst run in 100 years.

Who is the arbiter that gets to decide the value of something? Public opinion? Money? Opposition teams? Spectators? Players?

The answer, frankly, it's nobody. Not you nor me.

You further argue that Liverpool have a healthy PL lead. And in light of that, it aggravates the issue of using only kids - it's not necessary you said. One can conclude that you concede a notion that it's ok to sacrifice the PL games on the one hand in order to give to the FA on the other hand. Thus, using this logic, you actually suggesting something you vehemently against. That is to say, possibly devalue the PL in favour of FA cup.

Wrt Klopp not attending the game, as you put it, bizarre. Firstly, anfield was a full house - so Klopp is clearly not the main attraction. Secondly, the kids won, suggesting they were well organised by a competent enough support coach. Thirdly, I'm a Liverpool fan, with my actual invested interest in the club as a supporter, it didn't worry me one little bit that he wasn't there - absolutely no issue with it. The question is, why does it worry you so much? The people that it should matter most, don't care, yet the people who it shouldn't matter to, care most - now, to me, that is bizarre.

That's the least depressing thing, this team has at least 2 more season's to clean up as i cant see any other teams bridging the gap so quickly. It took Klopp 5 years to get here. So they are well ahead.
Things my change, injuries or Klopp having a heart attack with all the stress, but knowing the luck they had, wouldn't bet on it.
Just get ready to find other interests for the next few years.
