It is realistic to have a decent season with the squad we have.
Have you seen the first two games! We're a complete shambles.

Solskjaer played our first XI into the ground to get top 4 after the lockdown. Now there's nothing left in the tank and nobody of any quality to bring in to replace them.

You need a strong squad to achieve anything in the Premier League (this year more than ever) and we don't have one.

We are shambles but not because of lack of quality. We have a squad good enough for a TOP 4 finish and a good cup run. If by "decent" you meant winning titles then I agree we don't have a team for that, otherwise we do.

I mean, I agree but when you go to Tesco's and you see a reduced to clear item you don't start thinking that you can grab it out of the bin round back if you just wait until midnight.

If he is a clear improvement on Shaw (I don't know enough about him to say he is or not) then just get the deal done for £18m and send them Rojo or something on loan.

We should be looking to loan Dalot not sell him, he's still very young and can improve with good coaching.

Porto will start getting nervous as the close of window approaches. Particularly if Telles refuses to accept any other offers which could come from other clubs during the last few days of the transfer window.

Should settle on 15 million.

He stays then. No upfront cash to pump into Sancho deal with these loan. And money is the only issue with Sancho transfer.
No the issue is that Dortmund have been quite clear that he is staying. Even 120 won't get him now imo. Deal was dead after 10th August unless sancho kicks up a fuss and that seems very unlikely.

It's the same old story every transfer window. Woodward keeps chasing a dead horse. Can he get it through his thick skull that Sancho is not for sale this season. Bring in a CB, LB, and CF, with the money instead. Next season when we move more deadwood out, get in a RW as maybe someone else could come through by then.

Yeah, seems like that's what we bet on every transfer window, wait for the last week or 2 when the selling club panics so we can swoop in at a reduced price!!
I mean who cares about pre-season with the club, settling in, getting to know your teammates, new surroundings and all that nonsense.

Let's hope another club doesn't start negotiating for Telles as well.

He's not an urgent buy. He can settle into the club culture over the next few months. We already have Shaw. and Williams who can deputise in his position. Yes, the transfer policy and recruitment have been a shambles over the last many years. However, in this situation, it seems the club can't win. If we pay too much we're being fleeced. Try and negotiate a deal we're being miserly.

Completely agree that a LB isn't a priority and I didn't think VdB was one either, although we need better players to cover for Bruno. But we have other areas of priority which we aren't addressing.
Is it a case of the right targets not being available? So what's the option then, neglect those areas? Wait till the next window and perform poorly?

Maybe we're hoping the likes of Garner will come in for Matic in due course. Maybe there is a long term plan.

Anyway, all these have been covered in depth on this forum. Am feeling pretty dejected with the club, that's all.

Being stuck indoors isn't helping my mood I guess.

Ridiculous. Watzke would sell his mother for 120m.
They were very clear, German media have not reported the story in ages and every noise coming out of Dortmund is that he is staying. I want him to come but think Dortmund will keep him now, no time to get a replacement in and they don't need the money right now.

I've got no problem with that Telles negotiation, this is the kind of deal another cub would do and we'd get irate that we don't deals like that. It's also the kind of deal that shows Utd won't just throw money at you.

They either sell him now or get nothing for him, drive the price down.

Next year's saga - de Ligt in player plus cash with Pogba.

Bild: English press reported Leicester are trying to sign Akanji for around €20m, Zorc refused to comment when Bild enquired, they believe that the club is open to a transfer though.

Please sign Rojo as replacement. They need a left foot centre back if they lose him. Insert Rojo in the Sancho's deal

Dortmund already have two left sided CBs in Zagadou and Hummels, Smalling would be more realistic, but he's too bad on the ball and maybe too old.

I think it is. United's attack almost fell apart when Shaw got injured against Southampton. We went on to draw that match and did not look convincing at all after that. Shaw might lack the end product as in goals and assists, but his runs and passing is a great outlet on the left and integral to the way we play. Williams is decent, but his lack of a left foot is hampering the play.

They need cover for LCB. Smalling doesn't make sense since they already have cover for the RCB.

They have 3.5 CBs in their squad, Hummels (left sided), Zagadou (left sided), Akanji (right sided) and Can (right sided) and some backup options like Piszczek. They are potentially selling their only out and out right sided CB and you think they need to sign their third left sided CB as a replacement?

I thought since you are from Germany you should have knew that they are playing 3 at the back.

Can - Hummels - Akanji. So if Akanji leaves and joins Leicester, it makes more sense to get Rojo instead of Smalling. FFS, just let us find buyer for Rojo, there are already buyers for Smalling.

I even know that their first choice backline is Zagadou - Hummels - Akanji/Can and that Akanji only plays on the left, because the Frenchman is injured.

Solskjaer is the shambles. A lack of coaching is showing through now with our side. A decent coach would be one of our best signings this window.

Doesn't change the fact if they lose Akanji means they need a left foot centre back more than a right foot.

Hummels is pretty much nailed that central role. Can (Piszczek) Hummels Zagadou (Rojo). Unless you can be so certain that Zagadou is no longer injury prone.

I think they will get Telles over the line and it will be pat on the back and champagne for Woodward and Judge.

I think you'll get Sancho as well and Sarr will go to Dortmund.

But in a normal market VdB would have cost around 50 million and Telles would be around 20-25 million, so if you get him for 15 ish they'll have done OK given VdB only cost you 35 according to the BBC.
