I thought he was poor fist half, slow ponderous and did very little to show his class. Once he scored it was like a switch was flicked, his passing and control suddenly looked classy... frustrating player

Yes, he and every other outfield player were playing to a standard of Sunday league. However, to be fair, the forward line was not existent and never made themselves available. VDB was completely marked out of the game. It was when Rashford came on with Bruno completely flipped the game.
All true.

Upsetted me enough with a failed run in acres of space and a lazy pass that I won't call his first half ok but he was definitely not far worse than the nonsense happening around him.
It was as good a performance as your going to get out of Pogba in a double pivot imo. I'd say everyone else was worse in the first half, or a ghost. Maybe hes partly responsible for half the team being ghosts though? I'm not annoyed at him when he makes mistakes in the double pivot these days, im annoyed at solskjaer for putting him there.
Think he and a few others in the team struggle against the pace most games are played at for the first 20 mins

Basically opened the game up with an outstanding goal from nothing. People are not giving him the due credit - it was a different game because of Pauls goal

Anyone noticed he seems much fitter and stronger this match? I don't recall he was outmuscled or lost his balance when challenged like in the previous matches. Run a lot as well.
I saw a different game. Thought he was unfit and lacked his usual strength. Football, eh!

I think that his usual strength isn't usual anymore, we haven't seen it in a while.

First half: dire. Second half: excellent.

I’ll take that as the start of a turn in form.

Poor first half.

Second half, he really turned it on. Especially after his goal, which was superb. Really rolled back the Juve years with that.

Hopefully, that goal can give him a bit of confidence moving forward and we see more of those second-half performances from him.

An absolutely wretched game apart from that goal. The midfield was a bit of a mess so it is understandable, but there was no synergy at all with either of those players. McTominay likes quick pass and move and to drive the team forward in a group and DvB likes to take up positions in the overall movement of the both teams middle third and exploit it with crisp passes and then you put Pogba in there who takes touches, when he wants to extend the play by dribbling needs acres of space around him to move the ball effectively or he just passes it then stands there. His creativity over the short to medium range today contained so many hospital passes it was brutal to watch. I wonder if that really is an issue over the mid to longer term, I haven't really been looking at that until I noticed it today.

I also thought he should share some blame for the goal with Telles, I mean he just stood there the entire time and didn't even move. You take one look at what is happening around you and you probably track that and help off of Telles. But he erased that mistake with the goal. Overall, I dunno really. A pretty poor performance that didn't go any way to erasing the uncertainty about his starting position in the lineup.

That was symptomatic of entire team performance. We could barely retain possession, let along string a set of passes together in first half and Pogba was more culpable as anyone else.

but after Pogba’s wonderstrike, we suddenly went through the gears and played some fantastic football towards the end, of which Pogba was also a key contributor.

Genuinely in the first half he was better than anyone in the front 6 I don't know what game people were watching. Doesn't mean he was good but definitely the best of a bad bunch. Second half he was very good.

The only thing he did very well was his strike goal and his defending set pieces. Other than that, nothing impressive. He was very slow and offer zero playmaking ability in first half from deep position. In second half, Bruno takes the playmaking role which made Pogba less bad compared to the first half.

Even if he plays advanced position today, he probably would have lose the ball because their DM & centre backs would have easily anticipate the ball before he even touched it which happened to Martial & Cavani today. Bruno movement & awareness what makes him a true playmaker, something Pogba doesn’t have.

Still a great goal though.

Incredible strike but doesn't change the fact we should move him on. He's basically Veron.

Cracking goal and when we were on top he contributed well, but he was a big reason we were so bad in the first half as he was sloppy in possession and didn't help McTominay in the midfield battle nearly as much as you need to do in a double pivot, not going to lie, he'd have been off at half time for me.

Pogba basically summed up the whole Utd team today. Awful in first half. Ery good second.

Really frustrating player because we all know he's got the ability but I don't trust him enough. We get that first half Pogba far too much.

I'm starting to wonder if social media has influenced Pogba, or if it's the other way around. He has such a way of polarising my perception, it has to be connected.

Wonderful goal. Found myself screaming 'more pogba, more pogba' like a personal fan, just moments after vocally trashing this performance and for the whole season. He is our worst player I said, then he scored that goal and following that he played pretty well.

Great great goal.

Hopefully he can turn it around now, he has been quite terrible for a while now, so he needed that boost. If he gets going now, we could become very very good

Excellent second half, surprised by his recoveries stats, thought he was lazy a couple of times today, but good to know that he put a shift in and won the ball back loads.

I've been saying it for weeks, but if we're to challenge for the league we need a fit and firing Pogba as he'll close the gap so much more than any player we have barring Bruno.

We need him in good form.

Hopefully the goal gives him that confidence going forward. He was much better in the 2nd half.

Really good to see an ex professional in Danny Murphy highlight how well Pogba played in the first half. He’s capable of playing better, but not on his own....He was our best player first half.

Amazing that even he can say he played well, but some of our own fans can’t

Ok. Since it is. Why did we not have control of the game in the first half with Pogba in midfield. I gave you my theory, what's yours?
I feel its partly because Pogba had a limited and defensively porous partner in McTominay who actually hid from the ball and had way less touches of it than Pogba. McTominay was our worst midfielder today. Off with his passing and off with his positioning (as always).

Really was a good performance in the end. Fred and McTominay can't play those passes that's for sure.

Couldn't believe how bad he was first half. Even the start of the second half, he just kept giving the ball away

However there finish for the goal was brilliant. Hopefully it kick starts his season

Didn't really. He gave the ball away a few times as did everyone. Most of the time he passed it into martial or Cavani and they gave the ball away.

Now if we are talking someone who can't pass we should be talking about McTominay.

But this is the Pogba thread
Why should we talk about other players In a Pogba thread?
He might not have been the worst but he was not good at all until the goal
The weight of some of his passes were not good, and even off the ball it looked a few times like he jogged when a sprint would get him there first

I'm not saying he's the only one, but he was an issue especially first half and until the goal with his passing

Had two very good passes over the top in the first to be fair. Also we compare as comparisons are relevant.

So the two good passes means he had a good half? I'm not sure what point you're making or debating?

Or which part you didn't agree with?

Those saying he gave the ball away a lot all game....that then means his pass completion % was low ? The stats will back up what you’re saying.

A midfielder with great passing technique but doesn’t have the decision making to choose when he needs to take too many touches or when he needs to release the ball early. You can tell from the clips, the amount of touches he took before release the ball is unnecessary especially in first half. A false playmaker performance, that wasn’t a playmaker performance. We didn’t have playmaker in first half which is why Bruno was the difference in that 2nd half.

To be fair, the whole team looks poor in first half.
