Wasn't there some priest who tried to do a voodoo curse on a player during a world cup?
Pogue Mahone had some black magic skills when he made a prediction "X player never gets injured" and then that player would instantly get a serious injury. Even rivals forums noticed it and spoke about it in awe and wonder.

To be fair, Ibra may have concluded that voodoo has been involved in Lukaku’s rise and goal scoring exploits in Italy.

I don't think it's inherently racist, but I think the first image that springs to mind in people in the west is black magic through voodoo dolls. I don't think the average person in the west has a clue what it's about unless they put some effort into understanding it.
being from the caribbean i was always of the impression that "vodou" really started from Haiti with obviously its roots from Africa. But the religion itself is caribbean.

Its weird to me that people here are saying that the mere fact that saying someone practices Vodou is an insult , like calling someone a monkey

No the religion itself is West African, to be precise the origin is supposed to be Benin.

According to wikipedia, Apparently vodou is linked to Roman Catholicism.

I don't think anyone is saying that practising it is a bad thing or an insult. The same way that there's nothing insulting about eating watermelon, but if I was to single out a black friend, unaware of his culinary habits, and state that he likes watermelon, it'd be problematic right?

No. Not remotely problematic calling any footballer a donkey. Also almost every player I can think of, other than Lukaku, who's been labelled that by fans has been white.
It's used in kitchens too.
"Oy, who's donkeyed this?"
Many away fans will recall shouting Eeyore Eeyore Eeyore at Tony Adams back in the day....
In fact, the only way to make any racial connection with donkeys would be to point out that Eddie Murphy plays donkey in the shrekk movies.

There have?

And forget "Had Lukaku done blah blah..". DID Lukaku use any racial stereotype in the heat of the moment?
I think it is clear he did not use a racial slur of any kind, just that he would rape Zlatan and his wife if he got a chance.

Rastafarianism is a jamaican religion in my view. It stems from ethiopia but it is not an east african religion. As i said maybe there is 2 different types of vodou im not aware of but one was definately founded in Haiti just as rastafari was founded in Jamaica even though both have christian and african heritage

Because it’s often used as a baseless insult to people of African heritage?
It it though, I mean is it really? I mean, there's plenty of stereotypes and insults higher up the list and far more likely to be used before 'ooh, you're black, you must do voodoo'
Come on.

Yeah same, I think I'd seen it referenced a few times but I didn't gauge it at the time. I didn't know about the fried chicken stereotype either until a friend made a joke about it while devouring KFC.

We are not talking about rastafarianism. Voodoo comes from West Africa, it's an actual religion, now if you want to make a distinction between the practice in west Africa and Haiti you will be talking about a schism with the caribbean slaves adapting their practice over the years. The point being that the religion comes from Africa and Benin but there are different branches in Africa and also in the Caribbeans.

The fact this is blowing up with woke culture pandering on to cancel Zlatan is absolutely pathetic. Racism should be stamped out but there is nothing racist about what Zlatan said to Lukaku especially when 1. Lukaku is a donkey and 2. If he really did do voodoo shit. What if Lukaku told Ibra to pray to Jesus that he doesn’t kick his ass after the game?

Yikes, 15 pages full of nothing. The players didn't make anything of it, Conte was laughing his arse off, yet apparently we have a bunch of sensitive lip readers and jurors who can't wait to spring into action.
So unfair.
One would believe other threads on caf have quality discussion.
The Sancho thread ran and ran for so many pages, based on random rumours and nonsensical expert opinions.

Would love to see how many have actually called Zlatan racist, because from what I can see, it looks like you came into this thread determined to prove that the word Voodo wasn’t even used, before trying to deny a the possibility of any racist implications of baselessly associating someone of African heritage with Voodoo, and now you’re saying that people are accusing Zlatan of being a racist.
It seems to me that you came here with an agenda without even trying to understand the situation.
You're trying to read into something that doesn't exist. I don't care enough for Lukaku or Ibra to have an agenda against either of them, simple as that.

I stand by what said 100% - voodoo as a religious practice is not exclusive to black people, and consciously associating the use of it with people of African heritage is blatant stereotyping/borderline casual racism in itself.

Someone tried to cancel Ibrahimovic?
