What I mean by that is Cavani is past his peak. He's not the prolific goalscorer he once was, and injuries began to plague him a lot towards the end at PSG, before they isolated him.
He's still very good, but not as good as he was.
In my opinion, Martial has the ability to mix it with the best of them, and naturally should be challenging and probably succeeding Cavani, but he's fallen behind almost immediately.
A 25 year old Martial approaching his peak should be far better than a 33 year old Cavani who is past that stage of his career.
Now, if the ability is there, then what does that leave? The application.
I want desperately to be proven wrong, but I think this season should be the last we're talking about the "potential" that Martial has.
I firmly believe Martial will still reach higher hights especially if he remains with us during his peak.That's a contender for worst post of the year already. Martial doesn't have the quality to play for us.... He's possibly our most talented attacker ffs.

I’m very indifferent to the Martial drama but I‘m going to have strong reservations about him if he can’t look good against this Sheffield United team with that Utd XI around him.

He was pathetic for the second goal. Gave it away and spent an age getting back. He's been in shocking form all season, the least you can do is work your hardest. He seems to only work hard when he's in good form.

He is this season's Lingard where I can't for the life of me understand why he keeps getting chances time and time again. Atleast Rashford steps up from time to time and Greenwood is trying to make something happen despite being isolated on the right flank. A shockingly bad season.
