Ah sorry, my fault for trying to make a serious point on a joke I guess. There's a Judge Dredd joke in there somewhere though?
No need to be sorry your point is a very valid one, the club’s a joke when it comes to making Football decisions I agree with you wholeheartedly.

It's an insane amount of money for a GK but I can sort of understand it. At the time the contract was given he was arguably one of the best keepers in the world and certainly the best player in our team, so it made sense that he was rewarded with a fat contract!
Wasn't it given just after he pretty much cost us top 4 with shockers against Chelsea (Kante), Arsenal (Xhaka) and some others? I vividly remember people convincing themselves that his poor form at the time was due to contract negotiations unsettling him...

Yep, it was given to him when he was on the decline, didn’t want to call the guy out but he wasn’t the best keeper about then and certainly not our best player. He was on the wain since the Ronaldo goals at the World Cup I think he wasn’t even Spain’s starting keeper when he got the contract.

And when no other team needed a top keeper
Think Madrid had already got Courtois and psg had buffon so we could have given him less to stay

Going with Henderson makes perfect sense moving forward, but at the same time I would really like to see more respect from the fanbase for someone who has been our best player during some really tough seasons.

I don't care what anyone says, DDG is a legend of the club in my book

Respectable clean sheet, saved several shots (and it was important to catch those, not to pull away). So the race for #1 spot continues

Amazing how much easier it is to keep clean sheets and command the defence in the Europa League.

It will go under the radar but couple of those shots wasn't easy to catch. And he did it easily. Still the best.

Yeah there seemed to be three carbon copy shots from Kennedy that I though I was suffering De’javu from. All 3 going to the exact place and Dave using the same technique to gather the ball each time. He was good night.

Was perfectly fine, as he has been nearly all season.

Which he deserves credit for. Given how riddled his previous two season were with mistakes, how utterly shot he looked at times and the pressure he was under, pulling back a solid low-error season of perfectly reasonable goalkeeping (while also improving his sweeping) is good going.

Problem for him is that "perfectly reasonable" isn't really good enough when there's another younger, also perfectly reasonable goalkeeper on much lower wages already hanging about the first team squad.

If he is going to leave though then hopefully it's off the back of a solid season that sees him win a European trophy with us, as opposed to crashing out of the club on the back of the last two years' form.

Yep, Henderson wouldn't catch them as cleanly as De Gea did.
Shot stopping became so underrated these days which is ridiculous really. What is next? Strikers? "He doesn't score goals but did you see how much he can run?"

Didn’t have loads to do but he made all the saves comfortable, good to see.

Totally agree. For years he was our best player and saved our assess like a million times. Of course Henderson is the future of the club but it is disgraceful what people sometimes write about DDG, like he is a fecking Taibi

I was watching a lot of highlights of United games from de Gea's first few years at the club. I was reminded that he was an absolute phenomenon back then. I remember being so happy the club brought him in and Ferguson had the patience with him despite him being extremely young and adapting to the league. To watch him develop into a genuinely world class goalkeeper was amazing.

However, watching those highlights also made it even more clear that he's declined quite dramatically. The club needs to make a decision based on objectivity, no room for sentiment. Let's also not forget that de Gea was a paperwork error away from leaving us when he was at his prime.

Perfectly fine all game with a nice close range save at the end.

If it wasn't for Henderson being here we'd be talking about how much better and less error-prone he has been this season compared to the previous two. But because Henderson has usurped his place, the narrative around De Gea is naturally more negative.

Was it a perfectly fine game from him?

There was a moment in the second half where most keepers slide to collect the ball but our Dave the weakling he is panicked and kicked it instead and while naturally De Gea is scrutinised more than other keepers I'm not sure he's been less error prone this season at all, he had another pussy moment away to Leipzig for their 3rd goal and had a howler for Everton's first in the 3-3

I wasn't massively pro Henderson for the longest time but what he's done really well in this recent run of games he's been given is better than anything De Gea has done since that Spurs game early in Ole's tenure which was 2 years ago now

The couple saves he made were pretty much right to him. Granted he did well to get the right hand on him or catch them.

his distribution and kicking game is still terrible. Few instances he could’ve come to collect up all into the box and didn’t I don’t remember the exact time I’d have to go back and rewatch. It just look like the new DDG that’s been here the past season or so. Didn’t instill confidence at all when there was danger.

Solid enough but kicking a ball 9 out of 10 keepers would have slid out to gather comfortably was a reminder of many previous cowardly custard moments.

Yet another clean sheet for DDG. Looks like he is finding back his form and getting to the best again!

It will be bittersweet to see DDG leave, but continued success in the EL will help him find suitors for his next career chapter.

I would love to see him get the captain’s armband when we make the finals.

It's a masterstroke to play DDG in the Europa, we could do with his experience to guide us to a trophy.

While embedding Henderson into the team in the league with less pressure as we've pretty much tied up 2nd, 3rd.

His handling in the last few appearances has been brilliant. He was pretty solid tonight overall as well, apart from that one weird thing where he swiped at it instead of smothering. He might want to make a fight out of the number 1 position yet.

Truthfully I just feel more secure with DDG in goal. Maybe based off of past performances and still waiting on Dean to earn that trust.

Thought his best bit of keeping was when he caught and held that absolute rocket of a shot in the second half.

Dunno if its appreciated just how strong a goalkeepers hand /wrist has to be... A shot like that would probably break my sodding hand.

Once again we’re hoping Navas has a mare in a CL finals to make it a reality.
Didn’t even need to wait until the finals.

Messed up in the quarters against Bayern and now has had a mare against City.

I would assume PSG will be in for a new keeper.

Navas is also 35 so not going to improve.
