He didn't but even if he did, the competition was less strong than it is now.

When is Big Sam being signed?
He didnt take over from Emery mid season? Right ok

We managed to finish second largely thanked to DDG. Looking at the squad back then and you'd see. The current Arsenal squad is not as bad as some may think, Arteta is simply clueless.
Not really. This has never happened in a team sport. I didn't rate that United that highly but it was miles better than this rubbish arsenal team. Both our superiority and Arteta's incompetence are true.

I think coming into this season he had done a passable job.

It's easy to let the first 3 games skew perspective but I've always been of the opinion that his position will be made clear 10 games into the season... Not against 2 teams that are title contenders.
8th place for Arsenal is not a passable job. It's a completely and utter trainwreck. One cup win and being Peps assistance has for some reason clouded peopl s judgements over a poor managerial stint.

What makes this worse is that these are not even the penny pinching days of positive net spend like it was under Wenger. Arteta has spent around 200 million since he arrived and they still look utterly helpless.

Even if they sack him its going to take years to get back into the top 4 because that squad reeks of midtable
I mean, I understand they can no longer attract the absolute elite level players. Nevertheless, I still feel they have bought really poorly in recent years, considering how much they've spent. They went and bought Odegaard who really doesn't add anything imo. I honestly think giving Willock a chance would have been worth a shot. I also don't think White will come good, given his massive defensive deficiencies.

I agree that the squad is midtable. I've seen some suggest that with a new manager and some decent signings, they would be a good side again. I couldn't disagree more tbh. I feel they're absolutely miles off being a semi-good side again. People go on about Saka and Tierney being some sort of worldies - the truth is that they're good players, and nothing more.

DDG simply hacked his PSxG that season and earned us many points. Check his stats that season and you'd see.

If you remember well many said our squad is a mid table one by the time Jose was sacked and it's partly true imo. We're actually not that bad but our form made us looked like one. It's the same with the current Arsenal squad, they're not actually that bad but their current form made them look like one.

After Ole took charge we had Rashford, Lingard, Martial as our starting front three. We had a terrible defense which relied on DDG to save their ass on a regular basis. When he couldn't we usually lost. Lukaku was massively overweight and basically shit. While Arteta has Aubameyang, Lacazete, Pepe. The only area we were stronger is the midfield where we had Pogba, Herrera and Matic.

Imo the Arsenal squad if used in the right way would be much better. They have a lot of fast players some fast counter attack and a more direct approach would help a lot instead of the current fake Pep football which doesn't suit them at all.

Saka, Tierney and Smith-Rowe are the only players i'd even consider wanting at United, and thats mostly because they are young and can still improve a lot. It seems the days of Arsenal making shrewd signings and developing young players into world class talent are long past.

Forgot about Smith-Rowe! All three are good, but I honestly don't see any of them becoming absolute top tier players. I would take Saka and Tierney as squad options, that's about it. I wouldn't even take Smith-Rowe as a squaddie. I remember the days when Arsenal had a genuinely world class side!

They're absolutely shocking and reached that point when only someone like Conte (and a lot of money) can save them. Otherwise they're stucked somewhere between 7th and 12th position depending on injuries and who their manager is for next few years.

Arsenal ownership is one of the worst out there. For 10 years they have neglected the team and have not been willing to buy quality players. It has been cheap solutions and or free agents for Arsenal. And unlike other big teams they have been selling their best players to other big clubs. Only when the ownership has been put under real pressure they have spend some money.

They are 3-4 years behind top 4. Even Leicester, Tottenham and Everton is getting better than Arsenal.

Watching Lego Pep murder this team further and the ownership being ok with it says everything about them.

Don’t agree. They have spend a lot of money. They’ve just spent it very badly

They spent money this year and somehow got worse.

Why did they spend so much on a back up goalkeeper?

Ole's resume has been denigrated by many on here. I'm not going to dig up posts here because my point isn't to compare resumes, but to say that looking at resumes is a pointless exercise. Mourinho had a better resume than Ole and failed. All that matters is how you do on the job. Pointing at the resume post-failure isn't indicative of anything.
Someone get's it!

Past achievements are in no way shape or form an indication of future achievements, for example Pep has great CV's, however if he were to manage a lesser team with players with less ability he wouldn't be anywhere near his past achievements

With Ole even his detractors say that he will be leaving a great squad for the next manager.

With Arteta the squad looks abysmal and getting worse.

He actually stayed on too long. If he'd stepped down earlier the club just might have hired a suitable replacement.
Why is that? What makes you think we wouldn't have got someone like Emery?

I think the post you are responding to was in response to a post that was interpolating Arteta and Lampard's performance to suggest what Ole's performance at United could/will be in the near future.

I feel terrible with this whole Arsenal sinkhole happening so early in the season. My only regret is they'll probably replace Arteta before Bruno, Ronaldo, and Greenwood are able to take advantage of their management ineptitude at home on the 30th of November

Most if not all of the squad is Arteta's either by signing them or offering them a new deal (he also offered Mustafi a new deal which the German declined). The poor squad excuse just simply can't apply to him anymore with that in mind (and the squad he inherited finished two point off top four the previous year so whatever 'mess' he inherited he's made 100 times worse).

That's madness. And now we can't even imagine Arsenal being close to top 4. That's how much their expectations have fallen.

United are superior team in every department it's not even particularly close anywhere on the pitch Arteta or no Arteta we should be clear favourite against Arsenal every time.

The most odd thing is it Arteta doesn't even have the status to earn this leeway.

It would have been one thing a section of the fanbase wrapping Henry or Vieira in cotton wool but Arteta was literally an okay player in the peak Wenger banter era (and one of DT's excuses for Arteta was he needs time to get rid of the Wenger players  )

Why does he still have his job? Oh wait, I know why. The Kroenke's are probably upset at the thought of having to fire a guy and pay him.

And I think even then it was because they had a mini collapse at the end of the season. They really should have made top 4.

To go from that to finishing 8th twice and now sitting bottom of the table as we go into the international break, it's astonishing he's not been sacked yet.

Exactly, the excuses made for him are just ridiculous. He has been far worse than Emery with more money and players available. The fact he did worse with the same players suggest that he indeed is inferior to the previous manager.

Also, he certainly made some odd choices in the players that were kept and the players that were sold/loaned and that is down to him.

Even though it is looking dire for them, it would be kind of meaningless to let him go after this start, where they have played vastly superior Chelsea and City teams with some key players missing - then they might as well have done it after last season. Next five games are Norwich, Burnley, Spurs, Brighton and Crystal Palace. If he has most players back and still don't manage to get better results and performances, of course they should let him go.

It really is toxic over there. Amazing that the club are allowing Arteta to carry on.

I think Arteta is a bad manager but I think their squad is even worse. Little depth and their defense is one of the worst in the league. Emery is a good manager, not great, but he'd do better with what they've spent than Arteta would.

I'm assuming any signing would be having his blessing, no?

The squad building part from his end has been atrocious. Apart from Saka, Tierney and ESR - 2 of whom are youth academy products and hence weren't recruited, they've managed to sign just 1 player in the last 4 windows under Arteta about whom you can say, "This guy is good enough to take us to CL level"

Probably ill-advised but I can't blame him for wanting out...

He made a mistake by insisting to play midfield and not at fullback 2 years ago but it should be over. He's not playing him so just sell him, he's litteraly costing the club 10M for his own personnal vendetta against AMN.
27 days before the liberating "Official Statement". I can't wait.

Still not sacked? How come?

Why don't they use the NT break to give the new manager at least some time to settle in?

Hasn't there always been the odd noises that Arteta is an absolutely appalling man manager?

Wouldn't surprise me if it comes out he was a Don Barker type manager (for all of you who watched dream team).

Arteta is acting like he is a big man when clearly in order to be one, he needs to earn the respect first because he hasn’t got the respect he deserves from those bad boys. A good example is Guendouzi would have been good backup option in midfield means they can save the money that they spent on Lokonga who is currently backup to buy somewhere else that good enough to upgrade the starting XI but he chose to get rid of him due to player’s attitude instead of finding a way to give the player second chance finding a way to find solution for the player’s attitude. The AMN is almost in similar situation. Arteta doesn’t know how to manage his players.

This is a basic management, manager needs to earn the respect from his own team members, make them happy so they can work with you and for your project. If you are already big or experienced one like Sir Alex or Pep, then you can start acting bit of c*** by giving them hair dryer and swearing at them.
