There was outrage when the race finished behind the safety car and now people want to:Did you miss the previous 55 laps?
There was outrage when the race finished behind the safety car and now people want to:Did you miss the previous 55 laps?
Because they gambled on safety car going till the end.Soooooo, why didn't Hamilton pit like Max?
Its not a good analogy. Because if you read the rules they didnt actually change them. The rule has an if in the wordingIf a team was leading 1-0 in the last 5 minutes and someone had to go off injured, would you be happy with the referee deciding it would be decided with a penalty shoot out?
For Red BullRangnick would have taken control of this situation.
In football terms, Hamilton was 3-0 up with 5 mins to go, at which point the ref decides that its next goal wins, but Hamilton has to play with no keeper or defenders, and Verstappen is given the ball because he is 3-0 downIs there an ELI5 post in here breaking all this down?
Max wouldn't have pitted if they did and because all the cars needed to get past Lewis the race would have finished behind the safety car Max would have won the race behind the safety car.Soooooo, why didn't Hamilton pit like Max?
He had over a 10 second lead with Red Bull admitting it was over. The race was done. Hamilton deserved to win. There was outrage when the race finished behind the safety car and now people want to:
They were leading. There was no way they could make the right decision. Any decision they made Verstappen could gain an advantage by doing the opposite.Because they gambled on safety car going till the end.
Basically Merc had much faster car today but made wrong decision on every possible step (covering Max when Hamilton could go much further, not pitting on VSC and not oitting on SC). Toto should probably strees his anger on his team instead of damaging sports reputation.
Pretty much. Although the last call in reality was probably the right one weighing up all the probabilities.Because they gambled on safety car going till the end.

and the team principles need to behave and stop trying to pressure the Race Director.Nothing will happen with the protests, it's just more theater, the championship has been handed out and that's pretty much the end of it.
The only thing they can do is to get rid of Masi, who's been an inconsistent mess all year, and bring in a race director who can handle the pressure and stick to the rules.
I get that Hamilton got screwed, but what rules /laws were supposedly contrevened? In football terms, Hamilton was 3-0 up with 5 mins to go, at which point the ref decides that its next goal wins, but Hamilton has to play with no keeper or defenders, and Verstappen is given the ball because he is 3-0 down
Probably but I don't think speed was their thinking, it was not wanting to have to overtake Max ..He was much faster though, would've easily overtaken him.
ffs, you just sound just like my nan. as i said to her “quit your whining and just around the cummy bits.”Eh? I mean whatever is decided in this protest is going to CAS. Regardless of the outcome.
It’s been like that for years though. It’s part of the sport. Happens all the time. Is it unlucky, yes. Is it unfair sporting wise, yes. Is it part of the sport, unfortunately Yes but Mercedes wouldn’t complain if it was the other way around. If a team was leading 1-0 in the last 5 minutes and someone had to go off injured, would you be happy with the referee deciding it would be decided with a penalty shoot out?
It's beyond luck they literally disregarded the rules so they could have a shoot-out last lap for a bit of spectacle. That isnt sport.
Exactly. There's no way in a million years this gets overturned tonight.
It wont get overturned ever. There's no way in a million years this gets overturned tonight.
Its not a fact the rules were not correctly applied. If toy actually read the rule in question there there is an IF in the wording. There was plenty of racing all of the laps before.
What he wanted was the rules to be applied correctly.
Which they weren’t.
Literally zero chance. As I said earlier they will stick by what’s happened because that’s what has been broadcast and documented. It’s much better optics for this to be overturned by CAS.There's no way in a million years this gets overturned tonight.
Even if you are right, isn't that farcical too? Allowing rules to be adapted literally last minute to suit? Its not a good analogy. Because if you read the rules they didnt actually change them. The rule has an if in the wording
I get that Hamilton got screwed, but what rules /laws were supposedly contrevened?

It's worse than that. They even gave Verstappen a new set of tires. Under no possible way during the course of this race would Verstappen be level on Hamilton for the final lap with a new set of tyres. It's ridiculous. If a team was leading 1-0 in the last 5 minutes and someone had to go off injured, would you be happy with the referee deciding it would be decided with a penalty shoot out?
Nah no chance. But imagine the the publicity if it did! They should do it for the good of f1!!There's no way in a million years this gets overturned tonight.
Safety cars have been around forever mate. Extremely unfair at times. Hamilton has been on the other side plenty of times. He had over a 10 second lead with Red Bull admitting it was over. The race was done. Hamilton deserved to win.
What a load of crap! Was trying to avoid the result, so I can watch tonight, but ny brother in law who's expecting a baby text me the result. I had my phone data off and just checked his message incase it was about the baby. He doesnt even watch f1 normally. So mad.
Will watch the highlights tonight now, have seen the first lap incident. From what I've read, sound like FIA cheated lewis out of a deserved victory and got what they wanted. Schmachers 7 world titles not being beaten, by a black man who will wear a rainbow helmet.
Gutted for lewis. It's a new dawn in f1 racing, rules of engagement are different now. Its lunging down in the inside, pushing people off track and bumper cars. Shame the likes of Senna, mansell, piquet and schmacher arent around to stick max into a wall.
Yep ….to win a World Championship behind a safety car is absolute bollocksThere was outrage when the race finished behind the safety car and now people want to:
Either that or leave the cars between Lewis and Max and make him have to work for the win. You’d rather have no racing?
No actually just probabilities. Because factors like how long would it take to clear the track were unknownsThe rules as they were rather than the probabilities.
If the race director is allowed to make discretionary decisions (which Sky seem to be saying he does) then you're right. It wont get overturned ever.
I don’t think you fully grasp the issue hereSafety cars have been around forever mate. Extremely unfair at times. Hamilton has been on the other side plenty of times.
No they didn't. Verstappen made a perfectly legal pit stop, and Hamilton could've chosen to do the same. FIA had no hand in Verstappen's tires. It's worse than that. They even gave Verstappen a new set of tires. Under no possible way during the course of this race would Verstappen be level on Hamilton for the final lap with a new set of tyres. It's ridiculous.
That's fair enough. Still seems cowardly to me.Probably but I don't think speed was their thinking, it was not wanting to have to overtake Max ..
... on the billion to one chance Max did something silly
So much for wanting a fair raceIt’s been like that for years though. It’s part of the sport. Happens all the time. Is it unlucky, yes. Is it unfair sporting wise, yes. Is it part of the sport, unfortunately Yes but Mercedes wouldn’t complain if it was the other way around.
In my opinion the first decision to cover Max was the worst one and if he wouldn't do that he will have enough lead by the SC that he could pit and come out bwfore Max. Also if they would pitted under VSC Hamilton would have much fresher tires as he did in the end and could have defended much better. They were leading. There was no way they could make the right decision. Any decision they made Verstappen could gain an advantage by doing the opposite.
Reckon there’s some truth to that, Lewis has handled this well and doesn’t want this to drag on. He’s certain the GOAT of my generation.Craig Slater thinks Mercedes will accept the decision whatever the outcome.
Not a prayer. Whatever the outcome, this is going to CAS.
They never do that?Either that or leave the cars between Lewis and Max and make him have to work for the win.
