Saved us the embarrassment of losing to newcastle.

Should have probably scored the winner aswell.

Should've scored more than he did. I'm beyond just being happy that he scored now. Needs to do better when he gets chances.

He has to start when he’s fit. That much has always been so bleeding obvious. Continues to put our other forwards to shame with his hard work. I can accept missed chances when he continues to create space for himself.

Shocking...lucky with the goal and cost us three points with three great chances. It’s more the absolute shocking quality of the finishes than the fact he missed them all.

Sancho fecked that up imo. Though Cavani should have finished from the Sancho cross earlier in the half.
How? I thought he did well to shield the ball from the keeper and lay it off. Cavani really should have squared it to someone who was completely unmarked and with the goal wide open.

Eh ? Sancho was shite but he was facing away from goal with the keeper behind him. Plays it simple to Cavani who does THAT :houllier:

Knew you'd be in to criticise. You have a weird agenda against him.

Even misskicked his goal but at least he was in the right positions and dangerous. Only real number 9 we have. Should have done better on many occasions though.

Need to watch it again but you're probably right. Ronaldo had a tap in if it was laid into him.

Has to play and has to stay. Leads from the front. Movement, touch and pressing all superior to Ronaldo.

He did ok but like Ronaldo, he's pretty clumsy on the ball and can't shoot straight.

Cost the three points? The whole team was complete utter shite but the guy that came on and scored and was the only one that made something happened cost the three points. Yeah right

You disagree?
Yes. You couldn't even praise him for the goal for fecks sake. You're constantly negative about him, do you hate it when he scores and gleefully post on Redcafe when he misses? Its bizarre.

His performance was hot and cold, his movement created our own meaningful chances, he scored an important equaliser but also missed some chances. It must be obvious that with him on the pitch we actually have more of an edge up front. We have no movement when he isn't playing.

But the chances fell to him. They weren’t difficult chances were they? We needed to score two goals and he missed three great chances and almost fluffed the goal.

Should have had a hatrick. Sorry, it's an away match and you have to take it.

Go and look at my posts at the end of last season when he actually played well. Today he was very fortunate to score and missed three sitters when we needed the points. It’s not good enough.

His movement and ability to simply be involved is mental. He missed good chances but whenever he’s on the field he’s almost certain to get multiple chances. Compare that to Ronaldo who had about 22 touches all game today…

But you have raised opinions over the love in he gets. Since then, you seem to just choose any moment to shit on him. Like I said, you couldn't even celebrate the equaliser without criticising him. You have an agenda, its obvious. I'm sure you will him to miss chances so you can run to this thread.

I would agree with your point, except no one else is getting into the positions that Cavani does. He doesn't create the chances himself but his movement means he's often on the end of crosses and cut backs, compared to Rashford who's never anywhere to be seen.

His finishing does frustrate the hell out of me, but then I can't stay mad at him as he's the only one closing down and getting into those positions up there!

Yes because it’s weird. It’s weird that it upsets people so much also

He missed chances tonight that any United player past or present gets slated for, he reminds me of Andy Cole, who I loved but who got a lot of flack for missing chances.

I’ve not praised any player tonight. Look in Bruno’s thread or Ronaldo’s or Sanchos…..I’ve not been in McFreds yet. These players on the whole need to buck up and fast.

Fair enough to an extent…..but they were excellent chances and the standard of the finishes were terrible

It isn't weird, fans love a hard working player who celebrates passionately. Fans also recognise when a player is giving his all even if they aren't refined in all areas.

I have no issue in criticising his misses, but you can't even celebrate his goal . You have an agenda and its been obvious for awhile.

I don't think Cavani needs to 'buck up' because this is what you get with Cavani, he scores goals but also misses guilt edge chances, he's done it his whole career. But despite his flaws, he's a positive impact on the team and we actually have shots on goal when he plays due to his qualities that our other forwards severely lack.

Cavani has always missed a lot of chances. Cole is actually a good comparison for him, both had superb movement, ran the channels brilliantly(Cavani at his peak maybe the best I have seen in that aspect) and just caused a ton of problems. There are plenty of better finishers who find it much harder to get on the end of things, may be more statistically efficient but impact the game less.

Fans have unrealistic expectations if they really expect him to score 3 goals from the chances he had tonight. The first chance where he scuffed the shot, that was the only real chance where he should have done better. The Telles cross one, he was caught off guard as the Newcastle defense had a mix up and let the ball run through (ball also ended up a bit behind Cavani). The Dubravka mistake at the end, that was not a great chance by any means, Newcastle defenders got back well enough to block a good amount of the goal and Cavani was far from the goal. If anything, Cavani should probably pass it off there (and Sancho could have done a bit better to begin with).

Should have been more effective.

I won’t be too critical since it felt like it was his first game for us since 1927

1st PL game since October, and he equalises for us. Really hope he can now stay fit as we need more finishers in this team outside of Ronaldo. Don't see the other attackers creating something out of nothing like those two do.

"We should let him go". Over my dead body.

What a soldier. He's worth every penny of his stupid salary if he's the difference between CL or EL next year.
