It’s very early days but the games are terrible, performances terrible, general set up, tactics, morale- everything is terrible. We will be that moderately successful counter attacking team we were with ole in no time as it’s the only way with this bunch. Must be the shortest new manager bounce of all time

I doubt we will never see the gegenpress with him in charge. Not enough time for it, with to many problems inside the squad.

Yes the last 6 weeks of Ole's reign were horrendous but we played decent teams. We've played average to poor teams so far under RR and have been woeful in all of the games.
Ole had 17 games though and won just 7, with a GD of -1. W7, L7, D3

RR has 7 games, GD +4. W4, L1, D2.

Claiming RR is “worse” is recency nonsense.

Genuinely was the opening half hour in his first game vs Palace.

Been all downhill since.

The players didn't buy into him, and he's responsible for that.
When is it ever the players fault? We are 6 to 7 years in with this shit. It’s the players getting yet another manager sacked

We're doing better results-wise but we need a permanent manager at the end of the season.

We are not a Chelsea (or any other decently organised club) that clears the deck in one summer and would give Ralf half a (or a whole) new starting 11 to do his thing.

We need a new 'main man' to make these players fear again because currently they think they're on a mid-season break.

We actually started well today despite it turning into yet another shitshow. I wonder whether our energy levels were so bad it’s a really slow process for him to implement what we wants.

At the moment it’s no better than LVG though - very similar to the Winter of 2015/16. The results haven’t been as horrendous as then though, something to be optimistic about.

It’s his fault they can’t be arsed? Nah. Starting this month he needs to replace the ones that can’t execute his instructions with players that can, and show them that if you don’t follow, you will just be replaced. For most of them that means dropping down to Everton or something long term so it’s in their interest to get on board with it.

So you want to sell all the players and mid season at that? If we're getting a fecking interim, get one who's suitable for this squad of players.

I agree. If he's wise, he will find a pragmatic solution that gets us to the end of the season. He can maybe plan around a new philosophy but I can't see how he can implement it with this shower.

Because the squad is actually good. LVG had Depay, Schneiderlin, Blackett, McNair..

After the Palace game I thought we might actually end this season in a decent place. However, I'm not seeing any Ralf Rangnick football at present. He's surrendered the high press. He's surrendered 4-2-2-2, tonight was a straight 4-2-3-1. If he's going to fail he may as well fail being true to himself and his ideas, rather than let the unwillingness of his players turn him into Ole lite. I don't blame everything on Rangnick. I think its obvious that our 'stars' either can't or won't do what he wants. Still, I thought he'd show more backbone in dealing with them. What does he have to lose now? We go on playing pragmatically and we'll go on being a nothing side.

That's part of the point, he's not doing any of that. That's an Ole team and formation we saw today, after his shit experiments have failed so far.

I can't see how we can continue with the fred mactominay midfield. Either he finds a way to add bodies or he gets really fecking lucky in the jan market.

As I said earlier, his ways are a bit not too familiar to me so much that he is very closer to LVG at his worst than any other good coach like Klopp at this moment. Not as bad as LVG's 80 mins routine FBs sub while being a goal down yet of course.

Weird roles/formation for players. Strange subs and timing of subs. Does not seem to have a good game management so far. etc.

I’d hope we’re in the market for some players who will run. It’s a pretty low bar so there must be loads out there.

Tell me the manager name our players bought in for last 8 years
Every single one of them for a while at least. Rangnick is getting nothing. I feel sorry for him, it's a tough place to be, but either you manage to motivate the players to play or feck off.

I’m hoping with Woodward and his seemingly ‘trying to be Florentino Perez’ act getting fecked off in 3 weeks, and us giving more power to Murtough and putting Ralf upstairs with him where we ideally want him to be, that things will improve.

As well as shedding off the deadwood with those two upstairs so the new guy doesn’t have problems… like I have no idea why Juan Mata is still here other than DDG needs a mate? And Lingard basically working with West Ham to run down his contract, and Pogba and his shenanigans.

Guilty as charged, and I hold my hands up for giving you shit about it.
I still maintain Ole was horrendous though, and RR is vastly outperforming him so far despite Covid issues, little time to train them, and inheriting a squad devoid of confidence mid-season.

My initial post was clear that I was talking about our performances. Results are better under RR obviously but in terms of what I'm seeing on the pitch it's definitely worse than Ole.

Hes an interim manager. We need to reel in our expectations a bit.

Years off mismanagement have got us to this. We are a counter attacking team. Out of the front four tonight only greenwood and maybe bruno can retain the ball, make the right decision, see the pass and execute the pass.

Then in Midfield we have no control of the game because Fred and Mctominah arent good enough.

Villa looked miles better than us technically tonight.
Agree with this, Rangnick is trying to play us differently but the players are still stuck with idea of sitting deep and counter attacking.

Nonsense. Did you not watch Watford, City, Liverpool, Young Boys, Leicester, West Ham at home in the cup, or our match against the same opposition as tonight in the league?
You’re suffering from severe recency bias.

I could easily see us losing the next two Away at Villa and Brentford the way things are going.

Not the solution. We need a sharp manager with a vision of how the modern game is played, who is also a top tier motivator like the likes of Klopp and Pep, if we want to challenge for anything.

Every player we got excited for acquiring, plays well for a while and then turns shit. It's a fecking graveyard. It can't be the players, we have changed most of them anyway. We need a miracle worker of a manager to run things correctly. I hope Ten Haag is the answer, there aren't many who fit this profile.

That's just nonsense.

I'm severely underwhelmed by Ragnick and you can argue things haven't improved but absolutely no chance were we performing better under Ole in the last few weeks of his reign.

Have you forgotten just how bad it was? 5-0 down to Liverpool by half time at home? 4-1 at Watford? Failing to beat utter dogshit like Everton?

I really like him. Everything he says is assured and with the confidence of a man who knows what he's about and what is needed. I would back him over these players any day of the week.

He may or may not be able to make significant improvements in the next few months because there is something seriously wrong at this club, but I like the idea that at season end he is going into a consultancy role and he'll know exactly who and what the problems are.

Not losing 4-1 to likes of Watford is a good start
Football is fine margins.

We could have easily shipped four or more against Villa tonight, we could have lost to Newcastle and Norwich (or drew) and lost to Wolves at home. We were lucky against Young Boys, too, despite it being a second string team.

The only convincing wins and performances were against Palace and Burnley.

Our style of play is the same, despite RR constantly talking about control on and off the ball.

Between Mourinho and Ole, its about what, five or six years.

If we had Conte, we would probably have won by three tonight, just through counter attacking. I am not saying we should have went for him. But the club is rotten. Rangnick is going to have to need two years to change things. And i think he should be given the consultancy role come the end of the season.

Look at guadiolas city and they can control the ball and see a pass and execute it. It is brilliant to watch. When lindelof went to control the ball once it hit off him and went ten yards. How many times did other players get the ball and couldnt even control it. So many times.

Aston villa were able to carve us open with one touch passing. How many times did we do it to them? Very little.
