Why can't they just use the money they get from United to pay him off ?
They could, but then they won't be able to afford to sign another player that they won't be able to pay in a years time and they can't have that.

Seems to me the FDJ saga is clear cut. Frankie agreed to defer his wages by agreeing to a restructure in his contract. In other words, he signed off on a change in the contract that said that Barcelona will pay him more money during the last half of the contract and little money during the early half...rather than the traditional equal amount per year throughout the length of the contract. He voluntarily signed off on those changes. It is not a case of Barcelona keeping hold of his salary. He signed off because he really believed he was going to remain at Barcelona long term and that he was helping his club out in a tough time. Problem is, Legally, if he lives today, Barcelona do NOT owe him a single penny. This is why he hasn't taken Barcelona to court. If it was the traditional deferred situation, it would be a matter for the courts to decide and he would have already signed for manutd while the courts decide. The fact that he signed legally absolves Barcelona. Morally however, he feels that Barcelona owe him that money.

Onto the second step of this issue. FDJ is due a major pay hike on his contract next season + a loyalty bonus. Those 2 issues mean that Barcelona cant register their new players....this is what FDJ is aiming for. He hopes that those 2 issues will bring barcelona to the negotiation table such that they can agree on a payment plan for the money owed. This is why we keep hearing that the player wants to stay. The 'I want to stay' message is not meant for Manutd. Its not even related to manutd. Its meant for Barcelona. Its a signal to Barca that he is willing to fight the long fight. I think this will be resolved naturally as we draw near to the start of the season.

This is also why ETH is willing to wait. In addition, ETH knows that FDJ already knows the demands of his system hence why he is relaxed about him missing pre season. He knows FDJ will seamlessly slot into his system within a few weeks. I honestly think that if it was any one else, they would probably also remain till the issue is resolved. Infact remaining is the only way to get any form of payment for the monies owed. This is why rumors of chelsea moving for him may remain just that...rumors. The issue isnt about the club he is going to...its about Barcelona paying him the money he feels they tricked him out of
Good summary of the situation and matches my understanding as well. This can drag on until deadline day (or until whenever Barca actually need to file their FFP report with La Liga).

I will start getting concerned if Barca actually manage to register Raphinha, Lewa and the rest of the squad (including FdJ) with La Liga. That's the point at which we'll know they're not forced to sell anymore.

We actually signed him at the end of may... It's just being strung out because the club didn't want the muppets moving on to another target that we wouldn't get.:wenger:

I agree, it's either done or not done. Unrelated, but can we also ban the term "give 110%". Not possible to give more than 100%.
Bro we must be brothers!
That one has annoyed me for years haha.
If you can give more than 100%, that just means you were mistaken when you thought you were giving 100% previously.
Gonna throw this one out there... I've noticed a slow reclassification of the term "I couldn't care less"
People have started saying it like "I could care less if Frenkie signs for us at this point, move on"
Oh so you still care about it then.... That's not the saying ffs :wenger:

Did he?
I thought he said he wants the right players, the quote wasn't "Frenkie y nada mas"... Please...
Actually I'd welcome anyone to prove to me that FdJ is so much better than T.Neves?
The last is also deep lying playmaker, plus he is PL proven, while Frenkie is Barca flop.
Forget it and move on.
He didn't really say this though

Basically said we have alternatives but we don't know who they are or if they are available
He said,
"We are looking for a player who can play in the holding midfield position," Ten Hag clarified, "but it has to be the right one.

"There are not many in that position capable of the level we demand. When we can’t find him, we have to deal with the players in our squad now and we will develop one in that position."

My read is, if there was a plan B target we would have tried by now. In fact we would have used it as a leverage to pressure Barca.

Again, I am not saying you guys are wrong. Its anybody's guess. Only ETH knows what's actually is the plan. But he seems calm about it, so am I.

There is not a slimier club out there than Barca. I would absolutely love to see them go bust.

I just think that he will take a salary reduction on a new contract, with a very sizable signing on bonus, then he has ultimately got what he wants.

Great thread title

This is getting painful, but I'm still hopeful. Barcelona accepted a bid, De Jong or his agent haven't fed the press anything about him not wanting to come, Barcelona have treated him like shit over his contract. Unless City or Madrid suddenly come out and say "we'll take him" I still think he'll come.

I'd also like to apologise for adding yet another pointless post to this already cumbersome thread.

That third lever will mean that Barcelona will make only 51% off of their merchandising and licensing. If they do choose to go in that direction, then they'll potentially lose out on lots of revenue. They won't want to go there unless they have absolutely no other option.
The third economic lever that is being talked about is the sale of 49% of BarcaStudios.
This economic asset was tried to sell this season for €50M and in the end it has not been produced.
BarcaStudios right now gives losses to the club, so an experienced member is sought to start giving benefits.

At the moment, Barcelona does not want to sell BLM. In recent years it has given an income of €50-60M.
Barcelona believes it can reach €100M.

What is there even left to talk about regarding this. Surely we're just waiting for the wages thing to be sorted or not.

Kind of feels like this will go for a good while until transfer deadline.

From what I've understood so far (one of you muppets correct me if I'm wrong)
Utd agree fee with barca, and barca would prefer to get the fee and eliminate FDJ's salary from their books
FDJ wants barca to pay what was owed before the contract re-structuring happened
Barca sees no reason to pay this

Surely if this is going to progress @Berbaclass @Brownie85 we will see some movement in coming days?

Logic would say that if Barca are going to budge they do it with the activation of the new lever which I believe is today?
I would think we should see something in the next week or so, maybe not the coming days, but i'd say in the next week or two.
It's in both clubs best interests to get this sorted as quick as possible preferebly before the season starts i'd imagine.
