Not directed at you directly, but I wish people would bore off with all these stats. How about using the MK1 eyeball and actually seeing the impact he has on games. For example teams may feel the need to double up on him allowing others more space, etc…

Stats can be manipulated to suit an agenda and rarely give the true picture.
Majority of people are stupid. Stupid people think they are clever and rarely ever question their own judgement or views. The amount of stats I see used, taken completely out of context and with zero nuance is stunning.

Also, most fans don't have a clue about football. They won't admit it but they really don't. Stats give them an easy, high level way of talking about the game and sounding like they have half an idea what they are talking about. You only have to scroll through a bit of tiktok to see how many embarrassing adults think they are pundits.

Neymar is exactly the bar that has been set for him I think.
Not his potential at all, but I do think he'll be less of a "what could have been" like Neymar has become the past 2-3 seasons.

I've just heard his dribbling is one of his main attributes and it seems that that, when compared to our other wingers, who often get criticized about this, he dribbles less than them. That's not manipulated, that's a fact! However, as I said, he does have a skilset that will be important to our team.

Can't believe the amount that we paid for him but still glad that we got him at the end. The media and press will be on him as soon as he makes a mistake, so the club have to take good care of him. Our players, especially the leaders and out enforcer Casemiro, has to make sure that he's protected on the pitch as well since he's about to get taken out regularly if he continues to dribble past and embarrass the opposition players.

In my opinion, stupid is people believing Antony will come here and do something he's not capable of, and then have the audacity to come on here and slate him for not doing what they made up in their heads. We see it year in year out!

Quick question. What is the definition of a dribble? Is it running ten yards down the line, then cutting back and passing backwards, a la Rashford, or actually taking a player on and being progressive?

With the pace of this thread compared to the pre-transfer one, it feels like people lost their excitement about the guy in seconds

Especially since there hasn't been a real on-to-the next one in the Frenkie or transfer tweet (or other) threads

You guys happy?

That as well.

In all honesty, the whole discourse around football is exhausting. I typically only bother with anything online, such as forums etc, when it's a transfer window and that's mainly because it's easier to come here and it spares me the brain trauma I experience whenever I venture onto twitter etc. The standard of debate and conversation is shocking.

It'd be fine if people had any kind of humility about what they say but everyone's a bloody expert.

All the oppo fans undercover in here should go support Ajax. Or City. They need you.

Bang on and the reason why I've pretty much stopped discussing football. Being able to pull stats without context from sites has made every avg Joe an expert.

My expectations for this guy are through the roof. Our most exciting signing since Di Maria.
The fact that he will draw 2/3 opponents to him, the same as Sancho does on the opposite site possibly means the likes of Bruno and Martial will be given acres of space to exploit. Eriksen will relish this as well.

100M feck me ! Insane fee

However for United sake I hope it works out.

On paper Sancho and Antony In either wing should provide plenty of flair.

This is great. Can see why he doesn’t score as many right now, he often wants to move down the line as a left-footed player on the right. Next step is how to find space when cutting in from a step or a one-two to get shots off, perhaps.

Never thought we would actually get this done. I’m one that doesn’t care a whip about the transfer fees. Just the players. Brilliant signing.

The vast majority of fans only ever watch big clubs' matches and couldn't even describe the tactical setup of a team in a match they're currently watching. Somehow the same people are confident enough to say, for example, that Memphis Depay is a shit player based on a brief stint at United 6 years ago when he was 21, never having watched a single minute of him since he left.

If you read my initial post, I put the definition of what a dribble is, which was taken from the site.

benefit of Antony, is EtH has worked with him and knows exactly where to play him.
Also, from ETH’s perspective, he’s now got a dangerous, high octane player willing to run through walls for him.

Casemiro will be hammering through pretty much everything, while Malacia looks like just likes running through walls. We’ve already seen what Martinez is capable of. They’ll all be great in the dressing room as well as the pitch.

We all know we need a couple more players to finish off but we’ve suddenly got a proper team. Winners and warriors all over the place. Great window.

Malacia did extremely well
Yeah and I've never seen Malacia not do well. I'm sure there's some bad film of him out there but usually it's him kicking ass and when he does get out of position he has elite recovery.

Re: Antony I think this guy will be one of the best RW in the PL rather quickly. I think he will be better than Saka for example. He'll slot behind Salah and Mahrez for sure but this is a very big upgrade for us.

Looking forward to seeing Jadon and Marcus battle for playing time on the left.

The announcement states “subject to international clearance”. When is this clearance expected to arrive? Transfer window shuts in 2 days

Ajax took us to the cleaners this summer. Fair play to them and good luck to Antony. He’ll be reminded of the price tag constantly by the media circus.

we took their manager and 2 of their best players. Would have thought it was more appropriate that we cleaned them out.

I believe so long as he transfer has been agreed in principle by the deadline, stuff like work permits can happen after the fact

Sick of hearing about the fee already. Hopefully by the end of the season Antony will make it look like a bargain.

He was expensive yes, but if it works out, no one cares. I remember the outrage when Rio signed
