First 25 minutes was inmense. Recovering the ball and playing it forward quickly. Then was still good. Still has to improve to release the ball forward quicker in a more consistent basis.

On the ball he's still a mixed bag, but off the ball, work rate etc. top notch. I was sure he would never be able to make the step up, but so far, fair enough
He wasn't top notch off the ball, he is still a ball watcher and puts himself out of position way too regularly which is why Arsenal and pretty much everyone else has been able to create danger through the middle. But he is still doing well on numerous occassions and sometimes make up for earlier mistakes in an action.

Imperious performance. He’s so good in big games. That first half was sensational in winning the ball and playing it forward.

Still hiding a bit in the first part of the second half but that was the whole team.

Doing an excellent role as DM. The Mcfred midfield didn't work because both were playing the box to box role and more often than not, both would get caught ahead of the ball and leave our CB's exposed.
He is now basically sitting just ahead of the CB's so we always have that extra body in defense. Not trying those dribbles out of defense and also making way more forward passes than before because Bruno and Eriksen are always showing for the ball.

Excellent last couple of games. One of the best performers.

I'll will also give Eriksen credit for that. He is such a clever player to play with. Silent leader.

This new role of dropping back and being like an extra centre back really suits him. He's probably our best header of the ball.

He had another very good game, but I am not sold on the idea he's been so good defensively. Still his positioning is too reactionary to make our midfield solid. Arsenal had it rather easy to pass through midfield Big part of the game.

Anyhow, his role will be reduced in the coming weeks, but for now deserves to start and keep what's he's been doing lately.

Scott dropping into the backline to add his height defending at times is a very good tactical adjustment ETH has made to his game...and its a big reason why he's keeping his place.

He needs to be given more credit than he is being given. Everyone is praising the defence or Erisken but Scott has shown so much grit last few weeks. He is breaking play and sweeping up stuff beautifully. Even switched on last few minutes in the middle of 2 CB to intercept that pass. Excellent all around and as I said previously he is rightly keeping Casemiro on the bench.

Considering Casemiro looked a little fazed after his introduction, I give credit to McTominay for living with the game. I still haven't changed my long term outlook on him but I'd love to be proven wrong.

Another very good performance. Good anticipation and didn't waste a pass.

Its hard to fault him as I do think he is playing well but there are moments when I’m watching and he’s still not making the effort to get in the right position to give a passing option. He’s gotten much better but it’s still infuriating to see but hopefully ETH over the season an get him recognising these moments so he and we can be even better.

His height has been essential in our defending to boot. Hopefully keeps putting in these performances and improving.

Agreed, he lets mctom just get on with destroying things
And he also doesn’t sit on top of him like Fred used to do

you’d get mctom getting it off awb, Fred would be 5cm away from him, so Bruno would come and get the ball but now we’d only have a 36yr old striker up top to play it to

now mctom wins the ball, Eriksen is in space, Bruno a further 20 yards up the pitch. Finally we can make old Trafford a big pitch again

Sorry to upset some of the guys on here who jump out and defend McTominay, but I’m not a fan.

The more you see of him it seems less likely he’ll ever likely progress to the standard of a top flight player.
To summarise, he’s extremely average and not particularly bright.
I know your bitter about the result as your team took a bit of a beating(Arsenal defending was shocking today tbh) but your post is still very ignorant.

MotM contender today. But he needs to stop getting these stupid yellows. He does it every time.
Normally his yellow cards piss me off (especially as they are normally around the box in a dangerous position), but this one was a good one to take. Casemiro put us in a really bad position with that ball and Arsenal were about to get in behind our midfield and running straight at our defence. Scott did the right thing this time in just taking out the man.

Edit: Realised I was thinking of Maguire's yellow, not Scott's.

Casemiro wasn't even on the pitch at that point. It was McT's poor touch that caused the problem.

Very good, no complaints. Long may it continue.

We're not going to dominate midfield with an Eriksen and McTominay duo though. Either Eriksen replaces Bruno with Casemiro starting or Bruno goes out wide.

He's stepped up his game since we signed Casermiro, i guess it helps put a rocket up your arse when their is a little competition for your spot in the team. Think it helps that he's got an outlet in Eriksen next to him.

His yellow card came from a poor first touch after a pass from Rashford, no?

He is a fecking warrior, the way he manhandled Jesus and slammed him for the yellow I enjoyed the most. Keep it up Scott.

Him and Fred are great players they just don’t work together but great in a squad, they have the right mentality.

Wait...who was it then? Or am I thinking of the completely wrong moment? Or just misremembering it entirely?

From memory somebody (who for some reason I'm thinking was Casemiro but obviously wasn't) played a bad pass in behind Scott and completely wrong-footed him, so it'd be harsh to blame him for it.

Ah, somebody else said it was Rashford who played that pass. Although now it's got me questioning whether I'm remembering the moment completely wrong and perhaps Scott was more at fault than I thought.

Edit: Wait, I'm thinking of the Maguire yellow.

This is Mctominay getting back to his best.

He showed this kind of form under Ole in that amazing away run, so he’s got that in him.

Perhaps all he needed was a modern coach to show him where he’s going wrong?

Absolute quality today, again.

Four wins on the bounce and McT has played an integral part in every one.

He's never going to be a world beater, but he's an efficient, effective player who follows tactical instructions near enough to the letter.
Glad there's a few on here that will have to eat their words.

That was class, when he drifted between the two CBs and somehow cleared that ball, was proper tactical awareness, perfect midfield defensive play, which proves he has the awareness to play that role.
