They are definitely not the cause. Nor really are your current government, its a long term systemic problem overseen by consecutive governments and crystallised by reverence of idiots in gold hats.
It’s a long term problem caused by consecutive governments which hold the same values, goals, and ambitions. So yes, the root problem is the government. The so-called reverence for idiots in pointy hats actually has nothing to do with it. If people like the royal family then they’re very much entitled to.

I don't blame the Tory governments. Tories are gonna Tory. I blame the millions of working people who vote for them and can't see what they are doing.

I have no idea either, yet.

Yes of course but your issue was with people disliking them for whatever reason, as tenuous as you think it is or not , which they're also very much entitled to.

Holly Willoughby is beautiful and provides excellent early day television entertainment, yet gets slaughtered for acting like she's above others, and we also don't let her be Queen

Hmmm
The Queen was very pretty when she was Holly Willoughby's age, by the beauty standards of the time. Let's see what kind of a 96-year-old Holly makes.

Can't argue about the breakfast TV thing.

No it wasn’t. My issue is those who seem to think the monarchy still rule the country and are the root cause of all inequality.

Nobody thinks that, but they are a nice distillation for the wealth concentration and lack of social mobility that is the issue in society.

They are a very powerful symbol too, even during the parliament run empire it was all done in the name of the crown, so the monarchy's association with power works both ways..

I was reading today that they are exempt from 106 laws that the rest of you need to obey.

Also in the same article it said Charlie officially met with the government 36 times from. 2010 to 2013.

They’re mascots paraded in gilded cages to suit the needs of the government. No power, no control. I’m sure they do their share of lobbying but there are far more unscrupulous people who do the same, with bigger clout.

If they disappeared off the face of the Earth and all their wealth absorbed by the state it wouldn’t make the slightest bit of difference to me, or to those who are struggling, homeless etc. The nation wouldn’t be better off, the people wouldn’t be better off. That money would be spunked on a private NHS contract for Boris’ mate or corporate tax cuts.

Grand, people are entitled to dislike them for whatever reason they want to, even if it is symbollic, because symbolism is extremely powerful. The argument that the government are worse is not any endorsement for the monarchy in my mind.

And as for the people who should be getting it, it doesn't matter to them whether it's Boris or Charlie that is buying crowns or places on management boards. Just despise them both is my solution

It’s not a case of who’s worse as there’s not really any comparison between the two. Blaming the monarchy for the shit state of this country is like blaming Fred The Red for the sad state of the club in recent years. And there’s a few in this thread who have been doing that.

I don't really watch day time TV, my sisters flatmate was in the production crew on the show a few years ago on This Morning, apparently Schofield was a dickhead with everyone but it was before he came out, not sure if anything changed since.

Don't really know how Holly is, either way they work in TV, they aren't special and shouldn't act like it for hosting a TV show.

The Queen was beautiful in her younger days 100%, issue is we grow up in a generation of makeup artists which gives a false perception of the past.

Put it this way too, genetics haven't changed in hundreds of thousands of years, just fashion and makeup has. I think most of the population is attractive if people take care of themselves, get regular exercise and don't smoke/drink/sunbathe too much because it really ages people.

Genetically ancestors have passed the best genes down the gene pool, so someone must have found our parents/grandparents etc attractive for us to even be here.

You made the comparison, not me. You don't get the dislike or their symbollism, fine. People are not 'wrong' to dislike them whether you understand it or not.

I didn’t say it’s wrong to dislike them. People are free to like or dislike who they want. You seem to be dragging this conversation back to the same basic point so I’ll leave it there.

Apologies, I thought you were questioning why people disliked them.

Genetics are always changing, biological evolution hasn't stopped because society has evolved.

We never were Neanderthals.
There's Neanderthal and Denisovan genes in the low percentages of the European population, but its the Queen thread so we should probably talk about the Royal Genes and Charles Sausage fingers :D

I came close to joining in with the booing at the Scotland match this week. Not because I'm happy she's dead but because it was another minutes applause/silence. She's gone, the funeral is behind us, its time to move on. Also wasn't comfortable with it given what Ukraine are currently going through.

This is what I don’t understand about the outrage going on around the Scotland booing. The ten days of mourning has passed, the funeral has passed. That’s more than enough time to give applauses and minute silences as we observed. There’s no need for it to continue on after.

I am so glad I am not in England during all of this. I was so annoyed they cancelled all the games. And then United games twice. I certainly didn’t hate the Queen, but I’m also definitely a staunch anti-royalist.

The day before I had watched The Imitation Game. I was still fuming from how a true hero, Alan Turing, was reviled and hounded by the British establishment through to his death. And then to see such, seemingly endless, deference to a royal. I know giving her the same treatment he got, doesn’t right the wrong, so I’m not advocating for that. But I have found this endless, sycophantic mourning to be quite sickening.

Good lord he's a flap tucker.
Honestly, I'm like, is that a euphemism? Is that another something the young folks say today that I'm gonna pretend I understand by not saying anything but just nod. Oh yeah, that's some flap tucking. Top tucking!

You're streets behind, oates.
But I'm streets ahead too. Before you had your soppy memes we had making hand gestures. Can you guess which one I'm doing now?
