Didn't find the Heimdall fight as tough as some on here but found that side boss in Alfheim hard as feck. Gravel Belly I think. You need to search the desert for two keys to unlock this boss. I did that area as soon as Freya was our companion and I had to fight him more than 10 times.
Same for me re: that side boss. I'd be melting his health bar easily and then for some reason would let myself get caught by the attack where he stands up and stomps

Exactly. I faced the same issue. Think it's because there's some additional delay before it stomps when it's health is low. I might have completely made that up but that is how I felt.

I'm getting the urge to play it again which is mad. Usually after I finish a game I'm done. Only had that with Elden Ring before.

The combat is just so satisfying.

Yeah, I had the same with the first one and don’t doubt with this one.

You sort of get used to the characters and environments so much they leave a little hole when you’re done, sad as that sounds.

Im really loving Kratos on this game. He breeds a real empathy in me, monster as he is / has been. They’ve done a great job with his character.

Okay I think the berserker King is a bit too OP for me. I could turn down the difficulty but that just defeats the purpose.

Finished it last night.

Overall a stunning game. Tyr’s reveal was genuinely shocking and the end segment in Asgard and the fights with Thor and Odin were insanely good. I thought Atreus had died when you awoke as him and were chatting with everybody, thank god he didn’t.

Loved Kratos’ transformation throughout the game from God of War to essentially God of Peace. Such an amazing character.

Part of my is happy that prophecy was not fulfilled but then another part of me thinks they missed a chance to not kill off Kratos or Atreus and go for the bittersweet ending. Though we did lose Brok :(

Most annoying aspect of the game was the targeting system for sure. Not bad for single/small amounts of enemies but when you’ve got enemies coming at you from every direction it could be quite frustrating at times. That was my only major frustration with it.

Concentrated on the main story so haven’t done too many of the side quests and extras so gonna mop those up. Enjoy the Berserker fights, looking forward to fighting the King you’re all struggling with :)

@Solius did you grab most the nornir chests to max out your hp and rage to defeat the berserker King? I'm thinking about doing it but not sure I can be arsed. He can more or less 1 shot me with some of his moves anyway. Not sure trying to grab all the remaining nornir chests will make much of a difference.

Just me or do the side tasks get harder ? I'm dying more regularly now. Think I'm going to focus on the story now and come back to them.

Yeah I got every chest going as far as I know  struggled a few times against the king but eventually after learning his move-set and spacing out my runics better I managed to beat him.

Berserker resurrection stone is great because not only do you get to come back but you get full rage and as you use that rage you get most of your health back.

How do you counter his attacks with bifrost when he's floating?

Throw your axe at him or get your companion to shoot an arrow.
Urg got him down to 5% health and died. Arrows don't seem to work. I've been using the blades mostly, so I'm not used to throwing the axe in boss battles.

Congrats! No way I could’ve done that on that difficulty.
Thank you. I thought I would give it a go in this game. In the last game, you couldn't change difficulty if you started on GMGOW. This one lets you change once, so it was worth trying. Spent a lot of time getting my ass kicked, but now I'm within touching distance of finishing 100%.

So I finally beat the mofo.

By switching the difficulty to give me grace. After a few hours I simply couldn't be arsed and I'd already gone back and done some nornir chests. Still pretty hard though.

Finished this evening. Santa Monica really upping the production and story here. I would have preferred a tighter game, do we really need side quests (I guess they are filling in the world, giving more content). And it is optional so you don't have to do them. But their is a beauty to me about the original trilogy and GOW2 especially in it's simplicity. This version of Kratos still feels alien to me. But a cracking game nonetheless.

Finished last night. What a wonderful game. Almost got me in the feels a few times at the end as well. One slight story gripe ...
what was the actual point of Surtur? He did nothing as far as I could see except destroy an entire realm at the end for no apparent reason. It seems like Odin and Heimdal were the only real cnuts in Asgard.

Might as well try and polish everything off seeing as I almost have anyway. Got King Berserker to do, Valkyrie Queen and a few chests/ravens here and there.

Game was an absolute cakewalk after realising I could spam runic as well. Fun as hell though. That golden armour was too fly not to rock.

Platinum unlocked earlier tonight. 58hrs total.

Think this and Elden Ring are the only two PS games I've bothered to do that with which says it all really. Couldn't choose between them for goty.

the idea was to him to breach the wall of Asgard I think initially. In the end, they didn't need him at all, just an excuse I guess to destroy Asgard after the Odin battle

The Surtur part felt really rushed. When you reach him, he says he won't help you. 30 seconds later, he's willing to help. Felt a bit weird. He just needed Atreus to tell him he had nothing to live for and that was enough to get him on side.

But yeah, the intention was for Ragnarok to breach the walls, but Sindri did it with his weapon and Atreus' arrows. Kratos didn't want to kill the Midgardians that Odin had positioned around the walls, so he changed the plan. In the end, Ragnarok wasn't needed. He got more people killed that didn't need to die and destroyed the realm.

I feel pretty bad for Horizon: FW. I thoght it was excellent and would have been a strong contender for GOTY any other year, but gets completely overshadowed by these thwo

Couldn't Kratos and company have gotten Fenrir to open a portal to Asgard? Thought they showed that Fenrir after inhabiting Garm's body has some measure of control over opening portals from one realm to another. They could have easily gotten him to do it again and Brok wouldn't have had to needlessly die.

Is there a spike in difficulty when doing the side quests, am I rubbish at the game all of a sudden, or am I under levelled with my armour and weapons ? I'm struggling to defeat enemies now I've finished with the main story.

Which enemies? Tbh lots of the side quest enemies are tougher than the story ones. Any berserker fights where there's multiples of them, the berserker king, the Valkyrie Queen. You should tear through the standard enemies though if you're specced right.

The colours of the enemy’s health bar tell you whether you’re fighting an enemy at your level or above (purple two above, think orange is 1 above). But yeah you’re probably just crap.

Yeah all the berserker or realm fights I start are against multiple enemies, it's too much! I'm trying the Muspelheim trials now instead, got passed one level but failed the one after. One of them was defeat 20 or so enemies but none of them take damage so you have to back them into the lava with your attacks which is ridiculous.

Must have doesn't like 8 hours in vanaheim alone so far, so much to do. Thought the dragons were a bit disappointingly easy. But plenty of other guys have been kicking my ass so it evens out.

What level are you at?

I am at level 6 with level 8 Mani's armour and finding the Beserker fights to be bit tough. Have only killed one Beserker so far

I think I will complete all the other side content and leave the Beserker and Valk fights for the end. Hopefully with max health and max enchantments I fare better in the fights.

Agreed, having platinum'd both HFW and Elden Ring and on the way to doing so for GoW Ragnarok, all 3 are worthy winners. For me though, the best game has to be Elden Ring, I have never played a game so extremely well thought out and satisfying. The playstyles are limitless, the journey takes you to a million places, and the attention to detail is staggerring. Furthermore, there are some really bizarre things that happen in Elden Ring, almost a dark comedy flavor to it at times that makes it uniquely weird in a cute way. One thing I will say though is that the visuals in both HFW and GoW are miles ahead of Elden Ring. GoW also is extremely well packaged in terms of the story line and the direction given to the player, although some would argue it's too scripted.
