That’s if you ignore the fact that Mudryk’s fee is made up of over £20m of add ons, whereas Antony’s is the guaranteed fee. Same for Nunez’s fee too.
Sadly you’re wrong. The Antony deal has add ons too.

As I said. Just going off what Sky Sports have reported.

Chelsea are crazy for this. Do they even need him?
Why wouldn't we need a winger?

Pulisic and Ziyech are both on the chopping block due to years of underperforming, not to mention the former being a constant sick note and even currently being out injured for most of what's left in the season.

Assuming we're successful in binning those two in the summer, Sterling would be our only natural winger in the whole squad. CHO might return or he might not, but either way there's plenty of need for a winger and especially one that has the pace and ability to take on opponents.

It's still a huge price tag for someone who, in the end, has proven very little so far in his career but there's absolutely a big need for a player like him. As a player type I see him as very different compared to our current wingers so maybe having him will help unlock the attack where others before have failed? But with a fee like that and an 8 year contract on top I would have expected to get someone who's a little more proven.

I don't he is going to flop, but he might never warrant that kinda money. There is a reason why we didn't want to pay crazy money upfront. That Donetsk boss cited Grealish and Anthony to warrant the price tag, and there are doubts in mind that the both of those should have been that expensive.

I think considering what we really need for back up...this was a luxury.

8.5 year contract?

Why would a 22 year old agree to that? They must be paying him a truckload of cash.

They better cross their fingers he doesn't flop.

Yeh, we had no chance of getting him. Not just the fees/wages, but it seems like Chelsea would have offered him practically anything he could ever wish for. No way we would (or should) offer an unproven young player from Ukraine league 8 year contract.

It's madness especially from someone so young and into a league as tough as the PL with that huge price tag attached to his name.

The pressure to perform will be enormous and for a bang average manager like Potter. Crickey, this is a sure fire recipe for disaster.

We don’t really know what wages he’s been offered. I tried searching for it but none of the usual journos have even mentioned a ballpark. Just wild speculation at the moment. The fee itself was similar to the one Arsenal offered, just structured differently. You chose not go above the limit you had set out and that’s fair enough but there’s only a couple of million difference between the two offers so …

8.5 years is crazy. If he is great, he has essentially signed all his best years away. If he is crap, Chelsea have him sucking decent wages out of them for a long time.

8 years. Blimey.

I reckon he'll be loaned out to 5 different clubs during that time.

Buy out clause maybe? 8 years sounds as if it is more of an accounting trick.

Anyway, I am sure Mudryk is going to be great for them. He has something special. Watched lots of videos of him in the summer window because he had agreed personal terms with Leverkusen and he can do some jaw dropping things with a football. Neymar-esque at times.

It's probably more than a couple millions for the fee, a lot more upfront and bigger wages (supposedly we only offered 50/60k). All your recent signings are above 150k so a fair guess would be at least 100k so double Arsenal's. There was also a weird tweet talking about a charity donation to Ukraine but that must be twitter bs.

I think he will be an exciting player in the PL but i'm glad we didn't ruin our summer building with such an expensive cover.

The sources I've read indicate you were willing to pay more upfront and had easier add-ons. One article said Shakhtar did not accept our add-ons. So I don't think the difference is only a couple of million, in the long or short term. Also I doubt we'd have offered him such a long contract and those wages. For context only Jesus (£265k) and Partey (£200k) are on 200k or more. Mudryk has done nothing to deserve anything near that.
We tried but simply could not compete with an unlimited bank account.
Good luck to him. Just hope we have other alternatives lined up.

That 8 year contract seems like a bad idea for both parts, but mostly for Chelsea.

In order for the player to agree that kind of deal he surely was offered more wages than he normally would've. Also if the player performs he'll surely want a improved deal even if he still haves 5-6 years left, keeping an unhappy player for that long is nos sustainable. On the other side if he flops they're stuck with him in a long ass contract.

It's really mental but I guess they don't care. For Mudryk he can pretty much just sit back and relax now, if he was so inclined. He's pretty much set (salary wise) for the rest of his career.

We are signing players left right and whoever available.Have to admit through higher wages only we could sign players. Our owners have no choice but to try to make project potter to work.

Anyway we need pace and trick in our team and happy to see players like Felix and mudryk in our squad. Need to remove some players from squad as well.

Probably has some incentive where he gets a pay raise if he meets them. No way an agent is leaving that much money on the table.

Boehly's an interesting guy.

Player power has increased significantly. Players leave clubs for free / low fees and pocket huge sign ons and wages for themselves. Something had to give here and this is an interesting idea.

He's making 5.2M p/y * 8y. That's 42M over 8y.

Interesting how this works out. If he fails, it's really not that much money for Chelsea. If he succeeds, he's signed away his best years. So either Chelsea get a really good fee for him or he'll just continue there until his decline starts.

I'm sure the finance wonks have modeled these things and approved of this.

the thing is, if it goes well he'l request a pay-rise and to be inline with their top earners.. which could be much higher in a few years time.. or he'll ask to leave

if it goes badly, he keeps that wage for 8 years including if they sell him (they'll need to subsidise his wages)

its much worse a deal for Chelsea I think

I’d feel sorry for this guy as I don’t even think Chelsea scouted him. Think they just hustled in to stop arsenal getting him. Be surprised if they know anything about him. Stupid decision from him to join these.

Like Arsenal were the only team to scout him, sure. Money is stupid so it likely put other teams off but you can’t seriously believe only Arsenal knew about him or wanted him. That’s the worst take imaginable.

He will definitely play at Chelsea. His competition is literally Pulisic, Ziyech and Sterling. All are shite, two want to leave and the other one has apparently been made available for sale. Then we have Fofana who is raw and new and Hutchinson who has just been promoted to the bench.

Whether he will be a success or not idk. I can’t say I know anything about him and I’ve never watched him play. What I know for sure is that any contribution would instantly be more than the two that want out. That’s not really saying much though as you can’t do worse than nothing.

Again, I don’t like any of the numbers involved in this transfer but I hope he can prove to be an asset.

Right, like our investment bankers Woody and friends? Or the '08 financial meltdown?

Building up a club (creating real-world value) requires a different skill-set to that of investment banking (extractive, rent-seeking).

If he plays really well he will probably be rewarded a new contract to have a salary in line with his performance to keep him happy, so no risk on that front. The only downside is harder to move to other club with long contract.

Mudryk's being especially purchased for his speed. That can fall apart quite quickly. I have seen a few Arsenal players over the years dramatically lose that speed after serious injuries. His touch looks ok...but my biggest question mark is how well he would settle in versus the pressing and close marking he will endure. He has some CL experience which is great, but it's difficult to splurge that much for an otherwise untested player. Guess we will find out soon enough if he is worth the price tag.

Honestly, I'll be surprised if this lad doesn't go on to be anything but a star. Sure, he's a bit raw, but the rae materials are there from him, pace, acceleration, skill, balance, technique, confidence bordering on arrogance. He got a standing ovation from the Madrid fans in his Champions League debut at the Bernabau. Lad just needs fine tuned and to be in the right team / setup. Whether that's Chelsea we'll soon see.

He is obviously talented. He may need to take some time to adjust to a new league. You have to be special to get the standing ovation at Bernabeu.

The overall package only had a couple of millions in it though. Chelsea’s add ons are supposedly tied to winning the CL and PL, those are literally the hardest add ons. I wonder what Arsenal’s were? Also I think there’s no chance you would have signed a player for nearly £90m and then him on a middling contract like £50k. So yeah I think what swayed the deal was much we were to play up front but I doubt there was a huge difference between the overall package to the club and player. Not that it matters though. All that matters from here on out is how he performs and how he fits into the team.

Didn't you just pay 50 million for Sterling? Am I missing something?

Takes Chelsea's spend for the year before Nkunku to 380 million I think, has there ever been higher?

Don t know this guy so cant judge him in terms of football.

But the guy posting everyday instagram pictures of Arsenal and signing at Chelsea is absolutely funny.

Just wondering where he will play, who will leave at this club to let Felix and Mudryk play.

As for Badiashile, I think that the long contracts are maybe made to pay less in one year and divide the fees by 7/8 rather than 5.

Pulisic and Sterling are out indefinitely if not for the season.

The former is very likely gone this summer, likewise Ziyech and Auba.

Yeh overall the package was similar but Shakhtar obviously want more money right now, so that swayed them. And I think it's clear you offered the player a far more favourable contract. I mean - 8.5 years, I really doubt we'd have done anything close. And it seems you doubled his weekly salary. Most reports seem to suggest we did offer £50k which is right in line with our wage structure. But yeh who knows.

Sterling's not shite though. You don't score as many goals as he did for City by being a bad player.

Right now Sterling doesn't look great but that's because he's being misused. He's not someone who can make things happen all by himself but when playing in a team that has these kind of difference makers in other players he too can be a very useful asset with his intelligent movement off the ball, like shown at Man City for a very long time.

Pulisic and Ziyech on the other hand are definitely on the chopping block so I doubt Mudryk will have to worry about his playing time one bit. He'll slot right into the starting lineup.

The problem is not the players you have, but how they are managed. If you cannot get a tune out of Ziyech, you’re hopeless.

I find it quite interesting that Chelsea fans think selling players is going to be like listing on football manager and they'll all sell.

Selling Pulisic, Ziyech, Auba, Lukaku who are on big wages is not going to be easy.

Never said that but for the sake of your post I'll go through each player you listed.

Pulisic has one year left on his deal with his PR team bitching about his playing time for what feels like an eternity.

Ziyech may be a harder one but I think he may push for a move unless his playing time increases.

Auba will have a year left and is being linked with a return to Barca.

With Lukaku this is where his self delusions comes in handy. He has shown all through his career he won't be able to accept being anything other than an undisputed starter and will find somewhere that will give him that.

The one that may/will be quite hard to shift is Kouli.
