I actually liked him for the first time in second half because he actually looked determined and tried to take people on, even though he generally failed at it. But he faded away after that and did nothing, but it's quite clear, for now at least, that he is not that type of player.
Just goes to show how shite he has been. Even failed dribbles felt like an improvement.
He is way out of his depth.
Wingers are supposed to create chances he barely does anything.

He was poor but unlike Rashford and Weghorst he can keep the ball and take the defensive pressure off the team by providing some sort of outlet . One of the reasons why arsenal were able to really put their foot down when Antony came off.

Modern managers aren't great judges of talent. They're glorified drill sargeants who specialise in coaching.

Recruitment etc should all be left to specialists like they are at other clubs. Back the scouts. feck the managers.
You can't really say that in this case though. If you were saying a manager looking from a far watching them on a few match days you might have a point but when a manger tells you he want's/needs this certain player for his team and he was managing that player in the last team he managed you have to trust him.

Nobody knows how well Antony could play in one of Ten Hags side better than himself.

I'm as confused as anyone though, he looks terrible and it's not like he's had a game changing injury or past his peak so Ten Hag isn't quite getting what he remembered. He's also played enough big games/teams in Europe to know what it takes from a player to be able to go up against these top teams and shine but Antony just looks bad.

Still going to remain hopeful though precisely for the reasons stated above, TH knows more about football and this specific player than any of us so I believe he will come good, as will the team as a whole with a couple of more signings.

Yeah it’s rough, and the worst part is that this is after Ten Hag worked with him previously. If it was a continuation of our shit scouting, I’d probably be less worried.

I don’t understand how he is going to be a success for us. At least with Sancho, it’s easy to see his technique.

He genuinely can't dribble can't do a step over and isn't fast either. His passes are also average What you're left with is a winger who's just going to often give side ways, baclward passes, or lose the ball after an attempted dribble . Basically a very frustrating player

Fair play to Shaktar CEO for holding off and using Antony as a barometer for the price tag of Mudryk. I genuinely struggle to warm up to the guy, seems arrogant without ability to back it up.

My biggest concern is that he was Ten Hag's choice, and we paid 100m. He will keep playing him over players who are clearly better.

Actually the scoutings generally been fine. It's the managers who've always poisoned the waters with their own input.

Wasn’t a fan of his YouTube clips, not a fan of his performances for us despite a few quality goals. The ridiculous price is not his fault of course but I don’t rate him much. Manager obviously likes him so I guess he will keep getting chances.

Every single day this thread is being bumped. How useless he is. How much we payed for him. Out of his depth. Go bump the ETH thread and bitch instead.. He is the one who was dead set on signing Antony and knew exactly what he would get out of him..

There is a chance he might improve with time and become a very good player and there is also a chance what we have right now is the best we'll get.

The bitching about him is a headache.

100 million euros but it was 85 million pounds from the sources I've seen. Not that it makes the price that much better but still..

Anyway my opinion is the club seriously messed up this transfer. It was clear from the start of the summer window that Ten Hag wanted Antony and we could have signed him for substantially less if we acted quicker and didn't wait to the point of making it a panic buy.

At 50-60 million pounds I think Antony would be given more slack but everyone is expecting him to be a player he is not due to the fee. I think it's putting a huge burden on his shoulders

I know Mudryk plays on the opposite side but watching him for 5 minutes the other day, it was instantly depressing to think Antony cost a similar amount. Even if Mudryk would be half the player on the right wing I bet he would still be better, that boy looks dynamite.

If he played for literally any other PL side the CAF would be saying give him time

Why are ya'll such twats to our own players?

Hmm. I’m not convinced. You think Ole recommended Dan James, AWB, DVB? Maguire was wanted when Jose was in charge. Jury still out on Amad and Pellestri.

Seems like you can't critisize any new player on the Caf because Vidic and Evra turned out to be world class.
Yeah fair enough, we armchair fans are often fickle.

But with this player, man... with Sancho you can easily see the monster he can become, should he ever get back to his ability we saw in Germany consistently.

Antony on the other hand- assuming he manages to unearth his potential at United,
What is it going to look like?

He's very good at tracking back and positioning himself well for pressurizing defenses. ok, that's a nice one, He's good for our shape.
He occasionally hits one to the top corner, amidst many shitty attempts. ok.

How is it different than, say, Darren Fletcher on the right wing?

Seems like a bad buy for this price, but early days and all...

I actually thought he was quite bright today. Looked sharp, some nice skills and link play. The big worry is that he doesn't seem to take players on.

I think missing Dalot has influenced Antony: he has to do all the attacking in the right side all by himself. Dalot was able to provide options when we are attacking, something that AWB can't do.

Nah, I'm not having that. Antony isn't performing any differently to when Dalot played. He scored a couple of goals which probably masked some average performances but this isn't on AWB, who, other than today, has been brilliant since his return.

I remember when we lost out to Chelsea with Hazard, bought Kagawa and for a few weeks held on to the idea that the latter was better... They were miles apart. I'm afraid the same might go for A&M

I think I've probably been his biggest critic since he joined and I thought today was one of his better performances funny enough. He was still absolutely toothless and provided zero threat of goal scoring or creativity but I at least saw a glimmer of this talent he's meant to have today.

That said, I really think he's no better than Dan James in the attacking third. We've been taken to the cleaners by Ajax and I think EtH should lose all privilege of identifying his own signings after vouching for this guy. Pound for pound this might be the biggest overpayment for a player in PL history.

We have a shite attack and he starts every game. Its no coincidence.

I doubt it, it's just that right now thr squad is thin. We need Sancho back asap at least. Otherwise there isn't a clearly better player than him on the RW

I thought he was decent in first half, at least in terms of ball retention & progression, but crap in the 2nd half. Either way, he was far from the biggest reason for our loss tonight.

Was willing to give him time but come on Antony you need to start producing something. That wasn't very good and he has been hugely underwhelming so far.

Saw previously people saying he was rapid and alright he travels quite well with the ball but see in a proper sprint he really doesn’t seem fast at all.

I’, really hoping this is just a settling in period and sooner rather than later he is going to blow our socks off.

Here is the list of left footed right wingers playing often in his position in the league.

Saka
Mahrez
Salah
Kulusevski
Bowen
Olise
Jack Harrison
Leon Bailey
Almiron
Ziyech
Pedro Neto
Solly March

He is better than how many of them? Genuine question because I’m struggling here to go past 3 maybe 4.

Another disappointing outing from the lad, enough as been said about his lack of ability to take his man on but his passing is becoming just as shite. Will be nice when are other options become available because at this point it looks like it's Rashford or nothing.

On this form he would be a bit underwhelming at a third what we paid

He’s definitely good at holding onto the ball and has more skill than a freestyler, but that’s not enough to justify 90 fecking million!

Also, we bought 4 right wingers? FOUR. Antony, Sancho, Amad, pellestri. All of them are at the club but still our right wing is shit because none is good enough for one reason or another. How pathetically diabolical is that?

What I find most fascinating about him is he looks absolutely rapid for someone who is far from being absolutely rapid.

When he’s running he seems to be smoking the ground beneath him, yet you’ll see someone like Dan Burn catch him up with ease.

We knew we overpaid at the time of the transfer though. My personal opinion at the time was that we should have walked away, but then Antony really started forcing his way here and we were determined. He's a Maguire esque signing in that sense (of overpay) but I think he'll be a better player for us than Maguire, and he's still pretty young.

Looks rattled and unconfident. Not sure what the point of persisting with him as a starter is at the moment.

Genuinely a nothing player. I would rather have the David moyes version of Ashley Young than this

That fidget spinner description is just too accurate. There was one point where he was fidget spinning near their box and spun it straight back to them.
