Ineos won’t clear the debt. They are buying the club with debt (albeit put on Ineos). It won’t then make sense to get a new debt (with the highest interest rates in the last 20 years), to pay a debt that was taken with very low interest rates. That would be an absurd business to do.

Qatar on the other hand, might clear the debt, but we do not know it yet.
i thought the Quatar statements were they would indeed clear the debt

I think I've upset some Americans. That wasn't my intention. In the rest of the world we have a stereotype of Americans being poor at Geography.

Unfortunately some of you guys have kind of doubled down on that. I really hope you're trolling me. Apologies if anyone was genuinely offended.
You misunderstood my post. I'm an american, I'm from Chile. USA is not a name, it's a definition. United States of America is a definition of what they are, therefore they have no name as a country.

Failsworth is In Manchester for me I don't care what wiki says. It's on the outskirts of Oldham. It doesn't even have an Oldham postcode.
Yeah it's inside the M60 and all. Oldham is a distinct town with its own identity. Failsworth is a suburb of Manchester.

We don't need them, but I think being worried they'll do them is legitimate
Why?

City are in danger of relegation because of it.

We already have the revenues to compete with anyone were it not for the debt repayments.

So why would anyone risk their £5 billion asset by doing the same thing for absolutely no reason?

Plenty to criticise the Qatari bid for without this stuff.

I’d also assume underlying profits are considerably higher. The company is owned by three people who already have more cash than they can ever spend, a lot of the companies profits will be reinvested into the growth of the company as huge profits just mean lots more tax. We can be one of those investments.
absolutely. In 2019 they committed to 3bn in investments, https://www.ineos.com/inch-magazine/articles/issue-15/investment/

Put simply, no-one needs to worry about our financial stability if INEOS were to win the bidding, although I just can’t see Qatar not outbidding them.

The best thing we can do as fans if Qatar are successful is not bury our head in the sand like city and Newcastle. Support our team on the pitch but continue to highlight and attempt to work with them to make changes for the better.

Ignoring their issues and turning a blind eye helps no one.
They will do whatever is necessary in terms of PR (like PSG do for instance) to appease those concerns. Real change will never happen unless the Qatari people are ready to take arms basically and that's never gonna happen

Both the Ineos and Qatar have said that the purchase will be debt free (ie no new debt added). Neither have said they will clear the existing debt (although I expect that both of them would).

United will be well off financially under either group's ownership, but will likely be better off financially under the Qataris, because they will have a load of bogus sponsorship deals lined up from Qatari companies, to boost our revenues.
INEOS is debt funded by US investors. The debt won’t be on United names, also it can’t legally be on United’s name.

They said nothing about that.

Obviously we do not know what happens, but it is weird to expect a company getting a debt at 5% interest rate to pay a debt that was taken at 1-2% interest rates. It is the exact opposites of what companies do.

Which is why I think that the only ones who would clear the debt are those that buy the club without needing to take a debt to do so (in this case it is Qatar, hypothetically it could have been some mega corporations like Apple/Amazon or some ultra rich guy like Bezos). Someone that needs to take a debt to buy the club with these interest payments is unlikely to clear the club’s existing debt.

Exactly. The stupidity of people in this fanbase astounds me more and more every day. It should be so simple to understand yet people keep missing the point.
It’s probably because everyone cooks the books. Football as an industry is ridiculous. The fact that it’s being owned by mega corporations or ridiculously rich people and is actively used as a medium to drive one sided agendas is very telling.

i get why people are concerned about Qatar and Saudi - I personally think Clubs that mean so much for the people who support them shouldn’t be state owned. And football clubs mean a lot to the average fanbase.

the discussion then becomes theoretical and im not trying to raise the banner of communism in Old Trafford i just want to experience the joy of winning the premier league.

No need to call out people. Anyone can have reservations about this.

Honestly. Im sad about this.

Im Manchester born and bread and season ticket holder for over a decade before moving abroad. I honestly feel the club is a part of me and my identity.

Don’t get me wrong, The Glazer era has been a nightmare, but from a on field perspective I never felt we were doing in an illegitimate way. I almost felt more proud of the team because we were competing despite being weighed down by Glazer debt.

I always felt when Abramovic came into Chelsea that their success was completely hollow. Same for City.

I can’t help but feel that if Qatar come in, clear out debt, buy us a stadium and pump crazy money, then I feel that our success will feel hollow.

Ten Hag has made me feel great about the team in the last few months. If he gets absolutely crazy money and spends it, I think it will feel artificial.

United have developed their success and popularity organically via legendary players, teams and managers. I just don’t wanna feel our success is gonna be down to one man/nations wealth.

It’s been heading in this direction since we floated in 1991, so what can we do?
Great post. What we can do is say no to Quatar. Never. Good article by B Ronay in the Guardian. Look what they have made of PSG. No to state ownership

Qatar have already stated they will completely wipe clean the existing debts, it will be a debt free takeover.

I have so many questions.

Nine two foundation - why haven't I heard of it till today? Is this something they made up just to acquire the club?

Who exactly is this consortium made up of? The person fronting this is worth about a billion quid, so there have to be other more wealthier people involved.

If it comes out that this really is a group of private Qatari investors coming together and not backed by the Qatar state fund, would all the fans be able to get on board with the new owners?
Who would believe that?

It’s actually funny out of all the mental gymnastics people have done to view Ratcliff bid in the best way. None have assumed the most obvious one for the Qatar bid 1) they will just pay it off either instantly or over time from their own money.

It’s not really far fetched to think that.

Because they only other state owned team (Newcastle are too fresh) have done it. It's the only example they have so I won't condemn posters for thinking Qatari ownership might do it.

I don't think they will. They've no need

Exactly the kind of post that shows football has completely lost it's soul. This thread is a car crash of these types of posts. Disgusting.
It's really not that deep plus it was a tongue in cheek comment, calm the feck down.

We won’t ever have that vibe though for fecks sake. City were built from such a tiny platform of success. We don’t suddenly become plastic over night. The people who think that way are at best thick as mince.
I don’t want a PSG vibe either. No to state ownership. End of.

You don't think Russia benefited politically from the 2018 world up, or the Nazi regime from the 1936 Olympics? Sportswashing is most definitely a thing.

You've even bloody mentioned soft power in your post. That's what sportswashing is about; laundering your reputation through sport whilst up to no good at home, to gain political favour and make allies. You seem to understand it yet dismiss it.
Sports washing, as I understand the term, is describing a PR exercise to change the image of a country in the minds of the population in general, it isn't meant as a description of increasing political influence. I hate to break it to you, but Qatar, Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia already have plenty of influence in the corridors of western governments, they have personal relationships with our leaders and already own or have large stakes in assets in most western countries.

I mention soft power as owning United will further entrench their influence and possibly increase it around the world.

Is there a human being alive that doesn't believe the Glazers will just take whichever number is bigger?

Any chance fans in OT could have some sway?

It's time for the Glazer's to do the decent thing and accept the bid that leaves the club debt free.

They should then take the money and go and buy Liverpool, hire Ed Woodward again and grind that club into the dirt for a decade or so.

They need to buy Liverpool with leveraged debt, get Phil Jones transferred in on a 7 year contract and ensure that Ed Woodward brings back talent like Sinama-Pongolle (#pongolleback).

They also need to ensure they destabilise the manager by releasing stories of dressing room unrest and disatisfaction with his training methods.

Is there no way in your mind possible buying one of biggest sporting clubs in the world and what all comes with that could lead to real change in anyway?

Look I duno, but pretending these things don't happen just because they own us isn't the correct way to go about it either.

Exactly, I hear sport washing. Yet Qatar, UAE are places where many people from around the world choose to go live.
