I love McClaren, reminds me so much of the Fergie days. It's easy to understate how good it is to have a figure like Steve around, no ego, there to help in any capacity, not afraid to tell the manager how it is and also praise him if he feels the need. These are the kind of things you don't get with up and coming coaches who are solely focused on themselves.
this post is amazing. It being made just over a month ago is incredible.Is it too soon to say with the way things are going, next season we are winning the league Or Champ League?

One of the things I love about him are the subs.
I actually liked Ole and think he's not given enough credit for his work and achievements here, and I still wonder what could have been of Ronaldo hadn't sent his regime crashing. But much like Jose before him, I have been traumatized by Ole's blank and helpless freeze by the touch line whenever we're losing - and it would slowly dawn on you that the man, just like his predecessors, was out of answers at that moment. He had many of his own strengths, but tactically understanding both - the game in that moment as well as possible solutions with the squad he has - was not one of them. Ole wasn't gifted tactically, and Jose was looking to set up narratives to defend himself even before the game ended.
Early days, but EtH exudes the air of a man who just knows the answers. He understands what to change and how and confidently pursues those tactical tweaks. And 9 times out of 10, his changes work. He just understands how the pieces got together on the pitch much better - it's just better technical quality. The managerial equivalent of replacing McT with Casemiro.
I am starting to believe that his plan to win will always work, as long as his players execute them. And it feels like the players are starting to believe that, too. Very excited to see how we build on top of this promise.

yep, its fair to say I have a personal bias to trophies. It is fair some fans like you prefer not to win trophies.
If you compare the two managers trophies, I think it will be laughable to even put them in the same sentence.
Agree, it's great to have him. I watched a video of a training session where they play fotball tennis/volleyball thingy (I don't know what else to call it), and McClaren looked like he was having the time of his life refereeing it
It's fair game to say Poch is not of a good standard because he hasn't won any trophy. But if you say he is not of a good standard because he failed at PSG, then I can equally say even Ancelotti failed at Bayern Munich.
It's like praising Reus's loyalty for sticking with his dream club Dortmund. Then deem De Jong stupid for staying at Barcelona.
Under ten hag I actually now get excited for united facing the top sides in Europe and domestically, last year I was dreadijg us against Liverpool at anfield but now I can't wait for the match
It wasnt a good squad at all. It was an unbalanced bloated squad.
We went and brought in CB (martinez), CM (casemiro), CM (Eriksen), RW (antony), LB (Malacia)
We also promoted LW (Garnacho)
And have needed loan signings (dubravka and now butland) as well as Wout and Sabitzer
Thats five signings, and an addition through youth, as well as 3 overall signings.
And despite that were still short in striker position. That shows how bad the squad was and how it needed to be addressed. We needed a 80%+ success rate to be where we are. i think it helped with Mata, Matic, Pogba, Lingard and then eventually Ronaldo all going too. (and whoever is on loan like Henderson, Bailly, telles, etc)
Things have aligned in a way for both United and ETH. United is a massive club where ETH can work his stuff without having to worry about rebuilding every year from the risk of big clubs taking important players. At the same time United needed somebody progressive, a winner with a winning mentality, and somebody who gets respect from making big decisions. Its a great marriage between the club and the manager.

All we need now is the Glazers to sell up, and trust him to invest in the right players to suit his style and start competing for the major honours.

For the last 10 years at United we've only had two kinds of season - false dawns and catastrophes. So its hard not to have a small sense of anxiety in the back of your mind about how things are going this season.
But one of the funny things about our previous managers is that, maybe LVG aside, their failings were absolutely obvious and on show. While some fans, including me, managed to tra-la-la with fingers in ears when others pointed out their shortcomings, it was pretty obvious in hindsight we'd picked duffers. Moyes was plainly not up to scratch whatsoever. Jose's powers were clearly on the wane and it was obvious that he would fall out with everyone and blow up before long. Ole clearly didn't have the pedigree to build a good footballing side in this modern era of high tactics. As I say, maybe LVG was the exception, it wasn't that obvious how risk-averse he'd become in later years until later into his spell with us.
The big difference between those managers and ETH is that ten Hag is ticking all the boxes. Tactically he's got what it takes, his coaching is clearly excellent and we're winning games in lots of different ways - pressing, holding possession, counter attacking from deep, he's got the lot. We're looking solid at both ends. He's also a great man manager, getting high level performances out of lots of the squad. But he also understands the importance of the mental side of things, he talks all the time about hard work, discipline, resilience and rules. Plus his eye for a player has been solid so far.
Those other managers had clear weaknesses, and while their other strengths (they all had some) combined with the firepower of the club meant that we generally kept our head above water, the roots of their failings were always on show. But ETH is the first manager where there aren't clear weaknesses in his skillset as manager, which makes me feel like this isn't a false dawn, and we'll be able to continue at this level for the foreseeable future.
