I don't honestly think this has been much of a contest as soon as Qatar entered the bidding process? Is anyone really expecting anything but them winning at this point? Something would have to go very wrong for them not outbid whoever.
I've thought that all along.

The moment it became clear Qatar were going to bid it's been obvious where this is going.

With disdain till it happens to them. And then it's grand because "that's what we need to compete" blah blah..
There was plenty. Surprised at the amount of posters that are completely ok with the Qataris buying the club. Some even cheerleading it. I'm not here to wind people up like wumtwat, but we certainly don't need a state to buy us, in order to be able to win trophies or upgrade our facilities. If you honestly think they could be some sort of saviour for the club, then you're as naive and thick as they come. Don't quote me you think Jassim is just another Qatari citizen looking to invest in a PL club.
I'm not sure if those final two sentences are aimed at me specifically or the message board altogether

They're already borrowing money for the purchase of the club. Thier finances don't inspire spending the money required.
Yes, they will finance the deal, and so will Qatar. Nobody is buying the club with a truckload of cash. Besides the details of financing not being released, INEOS already said they would invest in the infrastructure. So unless there is some ulterior motive (ie. transfer funds) I don't see how anyone can say infrastructure or financing is the reason why they strongly prefer Qatar.

Fecking hell,

This thread has disintegrated to the absolute pits.

Reading the last few pages is akin to reading a journal of a mental breakdown.

You could probably put this post on 700 of the 800 pages and it would be relevant

Biggest off-field story since Fergie left, Glazers could finally be leaving soon. I thought the discussion would go another way

This thread peaked early with the gooner's fighting Taliban and British till I die rant. It hasn't been the same since.

Welcome to Manchester United. This thread is an accurate representation of the fan base. We all suck.

Ive been thinking this too. Once I heard Qatar were actually serious then I thought there be no contest unless another state entered the process.

I can't see Qatar losing out to SJR/Ineos. Neither want to overpay, but Qatar will still pay more than other parties. They will also probably make the process easier too, a quick revolut payment of a few billion to the Glazers thanks lads now feck off.

I have no idea why or what reason but I woke up this morning with a feeling of surreal realisation that we are actively being sold.

Also I have strongly been pro Qatar along the whole process but looking at it now, for some strange reason I have warmed a little to SJR and his delegation.

Dont get me wrong Jassim is by far the best option for the success of the club but I dunno I think its the excitement of the club being sold that I really want the juicy details from the SJR bid also.

SJR doesn't really have a choice other than to improve their bid as well does he? that's like throwing the towel after visiting the club in person

He looks like an absolute bum. Almost makes him likeable considering his wealth. Then I remember that he's a Tory.

We have plenty of media around the Qatari and Ineos bidding teams arrivals - hopefully we get a glimpse of the other two unknown bidding parties - I believe one of those groups will be in on Monday.

Exactly. No matter what bid comes from any other party, Qatar will just outbid it by whatever amount it takes.

Just indicative offers so far. The proper bids won't come until next week. As you say, everyone will probably bid something that is over and above their indicative offer. All bidders (including the Qataris) will of course also have a price beyond which they will not go.

A few years ago, I used to think it didn't matter who owned our football team - whether it was Qatar or Saudi Arabia - as long as they could help get rid of the Glazer family. But now, the idea of our club being owned by a state doesn't sit right with me.

Liverpool has achieved so much without a state-backed owner, and Arsenal who are on their way to winning the English Premier League without one. Even Leicester City managed to win the league without state support.

I don't really care about what fans of other teams say, but if we only win a title after we're owned by Qatar or Saudi Arabia, I think it would ruin my enjoyment. That's why I'm hoping that Sir Jim wins the bid to buy our club and he becomes a good owner.

Can you imagine if there had been no announcement from the Glazers, any sign that the club was up for sale, not even rumours and then that picture of Sir Jim Ratcliffe at Old Trafford shaking hands with Richard Arnold came out and it was revealed he was there to discuss buying the club.

We'd be 20 pages in within 10 minutes.

The irony is that the club's key employees; past or present are mainly foreign -- the managers (Scottish, Norweigian, German to Dutch with a couple of English ones), current or past players; the break-out star, Ganarcho ... doesn't exactly like he sound like he's from Moss Side.

This whole top, top-fan argument is just silly.
Probably the main reason I am a fan. When I was young I loved the jerseys and players like Giggs and Beckham, but getting older and learning about the Scottish influence on the club from individuals like SAF, Sir Matt (who's from my home town) and Denis Law made me want to support the club.

Somehow seeing the actual pictures of the bidding groups, makes it more real. Doesnt it.
Its no more just PR/media releases, actual feet on street, actual people.

Well I suppose that depends in part on whether you think the bid from Qatar is 'the Qataris' (ie state funds), or Jassim and his dad. If the former, they will be tough to beat, if the latter, then the others have a good chance.

The big unknown is the identity (and wealth) of the other two bidders, who have both chosen to remain anonymous thus far.

Surprised Jim turned up. Thought he was a bluffer according to red cafe experts
I know they bid for Chelsea late on, but he wouldn't be here if he didn't think this was still a contest. The Telegraph say he's confident of winning. One assumes that the two mystery bidders are, too.

Dont think anyone said he is bluffing. Mostly its
1. His bid is financially worse in actual bid value
2. His bid is financially worse in long term United point of view.
3. He made last minute Chelsea bid so all “Put Manchester back in Manchester United” is nonsense MAGA stuff.

SJR is decent alternative to Qatar and light years ahead of Glazers. But financially its worse deal than Qatar.

Will let morality debate for real and most important fans.

I prefer the Qatar bid because it would be better for the club and the city but the disrespect towards Ratcliffe has been bizarre. He'd be a fine owner in his own right, and a massive improvement over the Glazers. He'll probably give ETH more time and freedom than the Qataris will also.

Goldman Sachs getting a good look at their potential investment

Im very scathing about this. I know modern business involves debt, but we have the option of a completely debt free approach, so Sir Jim and his proposed mountain of debt to Goldman Sachs can go back to Nice.

Again, this thread is so annoying

There might be an element of xenophobia/racism when it comes to the Qatar bid but for the majority (including me) there is a concern about the soul of the club being tarnished forever by links with a state that appears incompatible with their own views/beliefs.

Check out some of their replies to the below tweet. Whilst homophobia is an issue across the whole world, any time a United account posts something in support of the LGBTQ community, there are hundreds of grim responses from morons who have never stepped foot inside Old Trafford or Manchester. Would a Qatar ownership model embodden those people more? Who knows but there would certainly be pressure on those running the club to make clear what their views/beliefs are due to their closeness to those running the country back home.

All of the previous points are in no way support of Jim Radcliffe. Accusations there's a hierarchy of "top redness" when it comes to support of new/current/potential owners based on locality ignores the fact that many of those same people protested against Martin Edwards throughout the 90s.
A poster has earlier debunked this train of thought with PSG and City's track record in this space. You can google their support for the LGBT community since their takeovers yourselves. I get the concern but most countries/civilisations have no interest in subjugating or mandating others to share their beliefs or behaviour.

I'm slightly disappointed by the lack of communication by any of the prospective investors to fans of their vision and commitment.

So, you think Jassim will need to borrow the money and pay interest on the borrowing, to buy the club?
