@Wumminator

You mention you inherently have a right to love United more because you're from Manchester. However, when @Abdullah7 says he would be delighted if the Qataris took over the club due to his family/clan connections you question his geography

No

I would say its name is due to the club being based in Manchester. I hope you live in Old Trafford or I would say you're a lesser fan.

It was initially not called Manchester United.
So if Manchester United moved to Charlton tomorrow it would be the same club?

Here is what I am saying. I will make it 100% crystal clear.

I got tagged by someone who lives thousands of miles away from Manchester about how happy he is supporting Manchester United now his home town heroes might purchase the club. He is buzzing about this.

I don’t see it as anything to brag about at all. The guy lives thousands of miles from the game. He has plenty of local teams he could watch and support. I 100% don’t get the supporting of a team you can’t watch. That’s not xenophobic. That’s what I believe. I don’t get cockneys who support United or Scousers that support United.

For me, your football club is one that is nearby or potentiallypassed on by someone in your family. It’s a way of life that you and people like you go to watch the local match. When some posters enjoy their local team buying a club, some posters enjoy their local team scoring a goal.

I KNOW this means I would alienate a large chunk of our fanbase. I genuinely don’t care. Of course you can support the team from wherever, it is just odd to me.

EDIT: and because of my romantic views of football, I don’t want a regime with thousands of deaths on their hands with anythhing to do with my club. I don’t want a regime with misogynistic, homophobic and hateful laws taking over the club. I would rather not win anything than win something that has been tainted through a morally dubious regime.
You know the vast majority of fans on this forum are not from Manchester. Easily 95%+, if not more. Given that you think it's odd that they're all Man Utd fans, it would appear to be extremely odd that you've spent hundreds and possibly thousands of hours engaging with them over a number of years.

I don’t agree with @Wumminator in regards to locals being more important/better fans or that it is odd to support a club that isn’t local to you because there are many different ways that connect us to clubs such as players, managers, owners, family etc. saying this, I also don’t agree with personally insulting or labelling people as xenephobic or racist because of this difference in opinion and most of you are smart enough to debate without resorting to such pettiness.

Fyi She was born in Atlanta. So she has to support Atlanta United only.
I tried to find her home residence but as is typical of the Hollywood and inferior Manchester United fan types, it was throwing all sorts of cities where she has houses soo I went with an obvious one but fair play, thats good info.

What has dyslexia got to do with bad grammar? With every poster that goes against me in this thread I look more obviously right.
You look more obviously wrong.

Go to games > fund Glazers > Glazers milk the club dry > Sells club > Qatar buys

Wumminator helped Qatar owned United. Which I kinda appreciate

Do mistakes in English, which is not my first language of course, make me a lesser fan?
The irony is that the club's key employees; past or present are mainly foreign -- the managers (Scottish, Norweigian, German to Dutch with a couple of English ones), current or past players; the break-out star, Ganarcho ... doesn't exactly like he sound like he's from Moss Side.

This whole top, top-fan argument is just silly.

Oh right, Wumminator says you can't so.
I can’t believe I’m having to explain why supporting two clubs isn’t the done thing.

You absolutely can not have the posterchild in this thread for “foreign fans mean just as much as local fans” then transpire to support another club in his home town as well.

You seem like a nice poster but you literally make my point.

can the law named after me be something along the lines of “something called Manchester United might somehow be related to Manchester.”

I don't think a hierarchy of fans is conducive to anything relating to United, it literally goes against what "United" means, it's irrelevant what "Tier" of fan you are, a fan is a fan and we all contribute by whatever means our financial, timing & geographical realities allow, I'd rather see us unite and genuinely discuss what's best for the club rather thank rank each other.

Hold up ,

We better tell the players that aren’t from Manchester that they aren’t real Manchester United players and only Marcus gets that prestigious honour.

It’s laughable that a global club considered “the biggest in the world” has fans that think you’re only a real fan and are somehow more important if you’re from Salford.

Where does it end?

Actually I live 500m from OT AND I go local chippy every Friday - I am more IMPORTANT.

But wait old Jerry who thinks we should get Sir Alex back and lives down the road from Carrington has supported the club for 50 years and been to 2 games but is always down pub on a Sunday afternoon actually knows what’s best for the club.

All these arguments are absolutely absurd.

I don’t know why in big 2023 there is a discussion about where our own fans come from or who’s more important.

I'm sure many of us don't want our own countries to buy any football club at all because we don't think that's the sort of thing our country should be focusing or spending money on. I'd actually wince if my country (well I have 2 but either really) tried to buy one, here we are privatizing railways, electricity, airports, all sorts of other infrastructure, but lets have our government run a football club (not even in our own country!)...

This thread shows that it's a contentious topic but in my book football clubs come from a place, a community, they have a heritage. And being a fan of a club to some extent comes with supporting that, even if you aren't from there, or only get to go there once a decade or so. I don't really buy into anyone being a lesser fan or the better fan, we're all just fans. But it's not like a football club is like any other kind of commodity either.
We're talking about Qatar.

I am sure like you, I would also be upset if my country of birth and the country I have resided since childhood were to purchase a football club. However, Qatar is a special case and a vast majority of its people will be proud if they managed to buy the club.

I personally think it's a bad financial investment from a monetary perspective just like the World Cup. I would also point out that as a Muslim myself money would be better utilised and the reward would be immense in the hereafter if Qatar spent its wealth on building hospitals and schools and helped those lesser of in the world.

On your last point, I do now think football has now become a commodity - not to fans, but certainly to those wanting to profit in some form from owning a club.

Thats incorrect. You have to be born in Manchester and live less than 1 mile from the club. Otherwise you are a lesser fan.

Even by the standards of this thread, the last few pages have been a waste of bandwidth
