The injury that will win Liverpool the title IMO. They're down to one fit CB and he's absolutely useless himself. Absolutely shocking that Pep chose not to sign a single CB despite losing Kompany and Otamendi being Otamendi.
Him and van Dijk are way above all the other defenders in the league. Massive blow for them. A huge opportunity for Eric Garcia 18 year old Barca product though..

They cleared 100 points with Stones and Otamendi

Laporte is the league's second best defender though so there will be some impact.

To prevent Liverpool getting that PL title maybe United would consider lending us one of their small army of useless CB’s?

Only just heard about this. Is it a serious injury?

I don't think it will cost City the title, but it will even things up a bit more seeing as the Alisson injury is clearly more serious than we were lead to believe.

There'll be a scan and announcement Mon PM or likely Tuesday.
City can only hope it's an impact injury which may allow him to be back in a few weeks but of course a serious knee problem could take a lot longer.
Fernandinho did very well covering for him yesterday and made some spectacular clearances. He's not played much recently so will be fresh as paint. He's only a small guy but like Rooney did for United often outjumps taller players.
Garcia is an interesting prospect. He captained Spain u19 to a tournament win this summer and is now in the u21 squad aged 18.
We'll just have to see if it costs us but if Fernandinho stays fit and Stones returns after the international break I think we'll be OK for a few weeks.

Is walker an option at CB? He did well in a 3 man backline when I've seen him there.

I wouldn't want him there. His body positioning for balls into the box is especially poor when he has to go to CB.

he's had an op on the knee, no idea when return date is set for but it'll be a few months I'd have thought, not ACL but cartilage and lateral meniscus (whatever that is)

Damn.

city have one job to do until we get our shit back together and that is stop the scousers winning the league.

I know they coped without De Bruyne last season, but they had Silva ready to step in and continue to create without missing a beat.

CB is probably the only area they are light in - can we recall Smalling and get him to do a job next to Otamendi/Stones? Pep could coach the stupid way he turns to control a simple ball out of him and would have him pinging balls like prime Pirlo by Christmas. Win-win.

Can't Pep take him to his special doctors in Barcelona?
He is probably there right now as we speak, going under the radar during the international week

Smalling is a lost case, i'm afraid. No one can help him anymore get better in that aspect if he hasnt made any improvements since being here. Pep would probably rather play someone from the youth (which says a lot) or a fullback/defensive midfielder there than Smalling

I once had an op on my knee meniscus so that makes an expert and a doctor. I only had a 3mm tear and it was hurting for a good 2 to 3 months. He'll probably be back for the CL Knockouts.

Cartilage and meniscus are basically the same thing. If they just trimmed the meniscus he could be back in a few weeks. If they decided to try and repair it he could be out for months.

I think (and hope) that it'll be about 6 weeks then getting up to speed so my guess is that he'll be a nice Xmas present for us.
So long as we don't get any more serious CB injuries I think we should be ok.

Otamendi is a much worse player than he was two seasons ago, Stones has fallen off from his 2018 level and Laporte joined City midway through that season, becoming their main defender almost immediately.

I think they’re so dominant that they’ll probably cope fine with either Fernandinho or Walker at CB if they have to but it’ll clearly be a massive weak link.

A silver lining for City could be that it enables them to get most of their best players on the pitch at the same time.

Ederson
Walker Fernandinho Stones
Cancelo Rodrigo Zinchenko/Mendy
De Bruyne Silva/Silva Sterling
Agüero

Knowing Guardiola it'll probably be the quick option. He always wants his players to come back as soon as possible. He almost ruined Thiago that way and it cost him massively, IMO. He had a fallout with Bayern's medical staff because of that, too. Inkury management is probably Pep's biggest weakness.

Good news for us.

Ole is already one of only 3 managers to beat a Pep side twice in one season. Jose n Klopp the other two.

If we win the upcoming derby at OT we'll have done the league double over them and beat them 3 times in one season. Would be hilarious given the quality of squads and managers.

Laporte is now 26 year's old and t's coming to a time now where he needs to make a decision on his NT ambitions. He is the best centerback in the league with no international cap's

If France are not going to be considering him ever then he need's to look at declaring for Spain.

Whatever agenda the French management have with him they need to sort it out. There was reports over his lack of social skills and him being a loner? As an issue.

Now I don't buy that ludicrous statement for one minute.

He's had a bit of an odd career. Obviously won a lot at City but he's played 10 PL games this season. A decent amount last season but the one before that only 16 PL games.

Also only has 20 caps at nearly 29 years old.
