You not seen the report from Diego Torres about Sheikh Jassim potentially buying the club? Diego Torres is the journo who wrote Mourinho's biography and the tweets below shed some light from his EL Pais column.

Chelsea were not sold for 4.7bn. The deal included a promised investment of 1.75bn - something which the Glazer’s want to ignore. They have a much bigger bid on the table with a promise of further investment - but they don’t care about that, all they want is as much as they can get for their shares.

How reliable is the tweet?
When it comes to business transactions involving football clubs, I only trust Bloomberg. Hence I don't believe stories like Avram and Joel wanting to stay or Ratcliffe is winning due to his offer being better overall.

So take everything with a pinch of salt until we get something from Bloomberg or FT.

The tweet says that Jassim "agreed and approved" United's credit facility with BofA, even though that credit facility is 3 years old.

I'd say the the reliably of the tweet is somewhat in doubt.
Agreed and approved could also mean they're ok with transfers being made out of that existing credit line, given that the sale could even take a few months more months. Doesn't have to mean it's a new credit line

What the journo has also reported is that Sheikh Jassim and his team have been stunned by the Glazers raising the price by 1bn after agreeing to sell for 6bn. So I'd take everything with the a pinch of salt for now because the Glazers are going to try and extract as much money out of this sale as possible.

Ok thanks,

If that’s all true they’re proper cheeky cnuts, I wouldn’t blame Ratcliffe or Jassim walking away at this point, I mean how can they actually say “6b should do it fellas” and then when they look to pony up they go “nah! Just kidding it’s 7b”

Obviously it’s all speculation but it wouldn’t surprise me with them.

Thanks, it’s ridiculous though even if they do eventually get their asking price. The EPL/FA should’ve changed the rules by now insisting on applying an independent valuation for any club sale in the future. Hopefully it’ll prevent situations like ours ever being repeated.

It’ll no doubt be put in place by the EPL/FA AFTER we get sold just like they stopped takeovers like the Glazer’s did with us AFTER they’d bought us with our own money.

In that report the amount is in euros rather than pounds so is probably right, Chelsea were sold for £2.5 billion plus £1.75 billion guaranteed investment so an outlay of £4.25 billion which is probably around €4.7 billion based on the exchange rate.

Hes saying that Jassim will pay the 6bn if UCL qualification is guaranteed due to the potential sponsorships he could bring to the club on the back of that.

Because getting into the UCL is worth an extra half billion quid obviously. Does anyone actually fall for this crap?

Exactly. Chelsea were sold for about £2.5bn - the rest was promises.

I think the transfer list would have been shared with Jim as well.

SJR would not spend £300-400m, I still think SJ would not, however CL football for a huge Club like united if they sold the following ; D Henderson(30m), H Maguire(30m), AWB (35m), A Teles (10m), B Williams(10m), E Bailey (5m), Fred (15m), A Ellanga(10m), DVB(15m) plus loaned M Greenwood, A Martial out for 6/12 months they probably could spend £300-350m especially if the debt was paid but 11/12 players being sold, loaned or released would mean we need 7 players coming in and probably 2 or 3 free transfers!

No we don’t but I do think there is something in this now bring a bonafide state bid and the Qatar state are embarrassed at ;

1. The delay in buying Man United
2. Jealous at Abu Dhabi Success at City and if they win the CL, they would have succeeded 15 years into their project, PSG still have not won CL
3. Qatar buying Mbappe and Neymar was the highlight of their tenure in France but they are definitely getting bored of the Farmers League and the huge restrictions of the financial vehicle of the Ligue 1
4. Probably hugely worried by Saudi incredible quick success of qualifying for CL for Newcastle. Saudi are so rich, they know they can’t entice people to the North east , they’ll probably reclaim land up on the coast on the north east and build some super man made island that looks like the Bhurj Khalif and the Palms in Dubai and give all new signing a small island.
5. Qatar could probably JustIfy with united a £300m yearly shirt sponsorship and give the club serious opportunities in transfer market so CL just allows them to go after the best players as they will just do what Abu Dhabi do already, one wage in the UK and a huge second contract with their new Qatari bank account for image rights and a Qatar ambassadorial contract.

Next season the top 5 in the premier league qualify for CL due to the new rules and high coefficient.

The fun thing about the Neymar links is it's the kind of nonsense people fear would result from a Qatari takeover but it also absolutely fits in with the 'continuity Glazer' accusations aimed at our Jim.

Wow. Where did you get all these facts?

I think the person most insufferably ardent that this is not a state bid also saying 'maybe democracy isn't all it's cracked up to be' is too much to have going on.
Well Democracy isn't all it's cracked up to be, that's true, but it's still better than the alternatives

Sorry that's ludicrous, the value of anything is what someone us prepared to pay for it in a capitalist society

Take everything with a pinch of salt. But Torres is a reputable journo hence Mourinho asked him to write his book. He's actually gone into a little bit of detail regarding the process.

And Mourinho described that book as a bunch of bullsh*t.

I wasn't aware that such leveraged buyouts like ours had been stopped. I remember Burnley being similarly bought out and ending up in a financial mess when they were relegated. I know there was talk of some curbs on leveraged buyouts. If true it's good news but of course too little too late to prevent us from being leeched off from the Glazer succubus's!

There have been many examples of leaders chosen from a democratic process who have killed millions. Similarly, there have been many theocratic leaders who have caused untold atrocities. I am only saying don't get too hung up on the process.
If people are un happy with their leaders it's probably a little better to remove them via democratic process rather than years of oppression and a bloody revolution. This really is a silly discussion.

If that’s true, it could be the reason for the delay in the announcement until end of season? Clutching straws here.

Yeah we were only 10 mins away on Sat from securing qualification. Just needed Watkins not to miss that pen at Kop end

If you want to continue this discussion I suggest you open a new thread in the CE forum. However, I urge you not to run away with one-word answers. That's not how these platforms work.

If Qatar bought United they wouldn't either.

PSG are the dominating force in France, United are one of the biggest clubs in the UK. You can't claim that any club who hasn't won the CL aren't great clubs. Arsenal and Atletico Madrid have never won the CL as well. The last time Juventus won it was back in the 90s. That's one mean cup to win.

I prefer someone with no track record, but who has the funds to hire the best team for directing the club (as Mansour did at $hitty), over someone whose track record is composed of failures and mediocrity.

Having funds doesn't necessarily translate into hiring the best team, it can go either ways - how about PSG or more recently Chelsea? Any by that argument - Glazers spent money as well but didn't hire the best team (Woodward?). What makes you so sure Qatar will hire the best team?

It might be a negotiating tactic.

There was a tweet but I can’t find it, it was posted here too, but could have some truth to it. Unless I’m adding 2 + 2 together and getting 5:

The Manchester United takeover saga could remain unresolved until the end of the Premier League season, with the Glazers still undecided on various contenders after six months....

Just as well I haven't made any such claims then mate. I'm just replying to your claims.

You said Giants not "great clubs" whatever that means to you.

But virtually no one would consider PSG to be one of the Giants of world football. Just because they've had a decade of financial doping.

They're not that great. Just having a good period under Simeone. Other than the two he's won, they only have one other league title in the last 45 years.

I don't recall us considering Lyon that great either, despite them being more dominant than PSG.

If it's true that his relationship with the Raine group has broken down, then it's over for Jassim, thankfully. Whether that means we'll get Ineos or some minority investment I don't know. I hope Ineos.

How is it? It’s the Glazers who decide on who they sell to.
