What I personally think is weirder is only looking at goal stats to purely judge a player from when if you look at a lot of good players they tend to make jumps in pure numbers when they make the next step or just go to a better team... for example

Mo Salah had 34 goals in 83 matches for Roma, pretty good but that's still lower than a goal every other game, 19 goals in 41 matches in his last season before joining Liverpool, but then first season at Liverpool he gets 44 goals in 52 games, who on earth would have thought he'd produce that output if you only focus purely on his goalscoring exploits from the previous season and Liverpool took a chance on him

Harry Kane's goal output was absolutely abysmal, worse than Hojlund's at his age, 2 goals in 15 apps for Leicester then 4 goals in 19 apps for Tottenham, then the next season, his first proper season with Tottenham he bags 31 goals in 51 games and the rest is history, infact they were close to selling him I believe?

This isn't to say Hojlund will reach the heights of any of these players but he clearly has the attributes to, the "but he's only scored 9 goals this season and we need a 30 goal a season striker minimum!" doesn't hold weight with me because there's nothing to say he can't come in and score 30 goals, there's also nothing to say we sign a striker like Harry Kane and he flops, unlikely but we just don't know.

What I do know is I'm sick and tired of being a team that waits for young plays like Hojlund to be snapped up by a big team that wants to take a chance them and then watching them flourish for our biggest rivals in Europe or us being the team that's constantly trying to prize them away for an obscene amount of money when we could have had them for peanuts prior
Agree on all counts.

We have so many areas to improve, we can't just add one or two players for massive fees every season, it works when you're on top - not when you're in the position we're in. If we're going to "sign the next messi", this is the way you do it.

The first game in about 5 weeks. So probably around 3-4 weeks.
Which makes me think it’s Mount and this lad that they hope to have done before preseason. Kim for example his release clause is during July so that’s obviously not going to happen before then. The other deals may be a little trickier or dependent on
Who we sell

When does preseason start as I’m Sure free agents are available from July? So Rabiot could be an additional to preseason budget free.

We are working in a set budget until the takeover is done. Stop being impatient. It's June 5th
Even if were weren't working with a set budget. Clubs rarely get all their signings for the first day of preseason.

He's been watching, he's been waiting, in the shadows, for his time.

Sign him up.
When a man's heart is full of deceit, it burns up, dies, and a dark shadow falls over his soul. From the ashes of a once great man has risen a curse, a wrong that must be righted. We look to the skies for a vindicator, someone to strike fear into the black hearts of the same men who created him. The battle between good and evil has begun. Against an army of shadows lies a dark warrior, the prevailer of good, with a voice of silence and a mission of justice. This... is Hojlund

Rashford's backup?

Can't see him being ready to lead the line for us yet but would be a solid squad option to develop

Forget about Höjlund coming to Manchester as a Squad Player. Why would he? He is in a position where he can choose between a lot of pretty attractive options right now. Some of the elite clubs wants to sign him and he could also just stay at Atalanta and develop for another season. He is probably ready to share the minutes with another striker, but he won´t just sit on the bench and wait for Kane to get injured. He is 20 and he needs to play. I am also not really worried about long adjustment time. Höjlund outgrew Sturm Graz within six months and is already very hot property at the end of his first Serie A season. Fast development is his trademark. This is a 50-60 million Euro player who was dismissed by FC Copenhagen eighteen months ago. Buy now. Else he will just end up at Chelsea or Newcastle hammering goals in for them instead of here, where he really wants to go.

Could see us buying this guy and getting Thuram on a free for a bit of depth/backup.

I think he’s coming here to be first choice. Isn’t he first choice for Atalanta? Why would he come here and be a reserve striker in his development years?

He is a rotating starter. Plays a fair bit, but doesn't start every game.
He would come because he would earn more and play in the Premier League for his dream club. Being a rotating striker here wouldn't be a bad move from his side.
Either way, he is much better than Weghorst so it would an upgrade even if we don't sign another striker.

That would be a very good price, we have to be all over this. Just looks like a potentially excellent striker, has the size, pace, ability on the ball and a strikers instinct. Very nature for his age as well. My guess is he and Rashford would rotate pretty often next season, with some Martial sprinkled in. Hope it gets sorted quickly.

I would try go with him and sign someone like Arnautovic for cheap as an experienced backup (he scored 10 league goals this season) or Marcus Thuram as a free transfer. Then in 1 year maybe Sesko can come to compete with Hojlund for a starter spot.

£40m for this guy is close to a robbery. Amazing if it's true!

Is there a clause or are the papers just making up numbers?

40m, if true, is a no brainer to bring in this kid. ffs....we need guys in the squad that can find the back of the net and this kid can do that and will only get better by playing with better players

40m sounds much more reasonable than the initial 60m, probably worth it regardless of whether or not we get the main striker aswell. Looks like a talent who can develop even if I wouldn't want us to rely on him as our main source of goals for this season.

I think he's the only realistically viable option. Kolo Muani apparently linked to Bayern for crazy money, Real with their sights on Madrid and Ramos would cost a fortune.

Hojlund, Kim Min-jae seem like interesting signings. Mount could turn out to be a masterstroke or a bit of a trainwreck. I still think we need to replace De Gea this summer to compete.

No real marquee signing this summer then. I feel like our squad needs star quality in the final third is my only worry.

Theres no way this gets done for 40m.

1. It makes sense to sign him for 40m . We dont do deals that make sense
2. The moment united is mentioned you need to +20m. Waiting for Atalantas CEO or whoever to come out any day now and say something along the lines of - "Højlund ? Nothing less that a world record fee (100mn+) will make us sell him "

As you said, there basically is no star forward available this summer. Next summer will likely have Kane and Osimhen on the move, and then younger emerging talents like Ferguson and Kolo Muani likely gunning for a step up.

Knowing our board we'll go for Kane most of the summer only to not get him and then go for Hojlund last minute and Atalanta will want 70m for leaving it late. When we should just go for Hojlund to begin with

The appeal of Hojlund is hopefully getting a player about to explode into a different animal while still relatively cheap.

I hope they land their target otherwise it's the end of Real Madrid.

How can £40m be robbery? He doesn’t have a record of scoring goals. We are paying for pure potential.
