Hopeful of deal before the PL starts? I seriously didn't expect we'd be this slow in getting in a striker before the window opened. It's all a bit ridiculous considering how the whole of last season showed how badly we needed at least 2 strikers.
That's just one shit tweet, probably made up, dont believe everything you need.

Must be confident as that is a very clear club brief
i can't see any advantage to briefing that information at all

in fact, the opposite, just puts pressure on ourselves to get the deal done

so i'd lean towards thinking it's journalists making it up, personally

Laurie Whitwell is saying that United will be patient with Hojlund and won't make him a automatic starter straight away, with Rashford playing as the central striker and Hojlund playing on the left wing.

I assume playing on the RW could also be a option.

Would be quite remarkable to spend £60m on the guy to play him in an incorrect position just to allow us to also play Rashford in an incorrect position.

On the left wing... you have got to be kidding :wenger:

If he's not a CF then why are we even looking at him?

How could he know that? He was in talks with ETH?

Laurie Whitwell has constantly been saying we’d have to pay 86million pounds for the guy too. I hope we don’t play him on the wings because he’s a striker and watching Rashford stroll around up top

He’s been all over the shop this summer. Even back tracking with his sell to buy, 100m ffp nonsense
It may be best for him to only report on the well known news ala Stone now for a while

I think what Whitwell is saying is that the plan is to introduce him on the flank to get him settled into the league before playing him in a central striking role.

Strange that we’ve left our biggest priority position to strengthen until last. I still think the Hojlund deal will get done but I’d have much preferred he had the chance to bed in during pre season first. The fact they’re saying we hope to have it done before the first game of the season indicates we’re prepared to drag this one out for a while yet but ideally it won’t come to that.

If this was the case (Rashford planned as CF) then the club should have also purchased a winger. I've been saying this all summer and will continue to do so. Even if MG returns that's 24 months of no football so I can't even see how Mount was seen as enough of a priority to cater to the larger weaker areas of the squad.

I think the PSG offer is excellent for us. It sets the market beautifully. Now Atalanta know they won't get a better offer than ours. Hahaha. Thanks PSG.

I reckon I could be a journalist and post the obvious tweets and I’d still amass a load of followers

Hmm…PSG puts in a lower bid and threatening to walk away this early in the process…Rasmus agreeing to personal terms with PSG despite United being his boyhood club...hmm, ok. Methinks this is a Qatar machination. Wouldn’t be shocked if this is Sheikh Jassim’s club already and he’s leveraging his partner Hamad Al Thani to get our striker.

It’s a fluid front 3 anyway so starting positions shouldn’t matter all that much. He brings something different to the table. I think it’s more a general we won’t be totally reliant on this guy from the off to get our goals. He’ll be under enough pressure to acclimatise without stupid expectations. Clever expectation management.

We really, really (Did I mention really?) need a striker so just do the deal please. Stop screwing about.

No one asked for Mason Mount so we better still have cash to spare for a CF.
Starting to see the benefits of Mount, we are so open when Ericsen plays as the 8, Mount work rate is impressive and it’s shame K Maino got injured, this why you need 7 options in midfield, you will always have 1/2 injured or banned, just due to the intensity of the position. We have left far too long to be getting a CFW in, we should have had 2 CFW needed all window, Marcus is ok when the team plays on the counter but against dominant CB’s he struggles.

We should have been looking at Kane plus M Dembele on a free if that wasn’t possible then P Schick and R Hojlund.
The Czech lad had a bad season last year but he’s elite, 27 and probably available at £40m after last year.

All at the exact same time?
yeah, i don't trust them

i know a few football journalists as i used to be a journalist myself, some of the lads I studied/worked with went into that field

one of them showed me an email thread one day where some reputable journalists had all got together and agreed to write the same story about Rooney (they wanted him to do the same), despite them all knowing it was bollocks. It was during the Woody era so they knew people would immediately assume the info came directly from the club

since then I'm a skeptic, especially when there is no perceived advantage to the club releasing the info.. and also, since Woody left the info from the club has seriously dried up

Woody was just a bit special and thought he was playing 5D chess, when in reality he was just a moron

Agreed.

It's about increasing the goal threat and having a fluid/interchangeable front line that will be unpredictable to read for the opposition.

Exact thing I was saying the other day. Getting a young striker and expecting anything soon is wishful thinking.

He's 100% a project player, which is why getting him so late is frustrating. He'd certainly benefit the most from integration and coaching out of our all new signings.

Why would PSG not match our bid? Strange one
A bit conspiracy theory but entertain me...

Qatar have already won the bid for United. Just not announced and finalised.

New owner Jassim wants to get Atalanta to hurry the deal up, so he calls his mate at PSG and asks them to send in a lowball offer to make Atalanta think that United's offer is actually a good one afterall.

Would be a bizarre move to play Hojlund left wing. Especially when Rashford can be really underwhelming and passive when he plays centrally as striker. It makes more sense to just play both in their best positions.

This. Clesrly. It's the only rationale for a lowball offer by PSG.

That’s a load of bollocks that I’m happy to believe.

The longer this goes on the more I feel the excitement building and the expectations increasing. Need to keep expectations realistic, he's a good prospect but it might take time for him to come good.

Puzzled by the reported PSG actions of bidding lower than another club while adding the transfer equivalent of 'not interested in negotiations,, will not respond' at the bottom of it! :wenger:

We only live around the corner
People that are relying on this lad to be our perfect striker and to join all guns blazing need to take a step back and give this kid some time. He is only 20…that’s younger than Amad, pellistri etc

I think PSG will let us do all the bargaining, just match our accepted bid, and offer the player better personal terms. Just a great way to get a good deal plus sign the player.
