Honestly we all know about his shortcomings off the ball but we are absolutely incapable of controlling a game without him.

Getting a younger, more energetic version of him should be the priority.

He is our best midfielder and he must start every game. Our only central midfielder who can create and set tempo. Others are clueless with the ball

He's really good, but doesn't have the capacity to start every game anymore.
Needs to be used sparingly.

Starting some, and coming in to change the tide in others

I'd rather play him, Amrabat and Mount than any other options currently available.
Would like to see Bruno dropped and Eriksen in an advanced role. I think our ball retention will be improve drastically.

If we could start every game playing against a team that had already played 70 minutes, his pace would fit in.

The difference when he came on was drastic. Actually wants to be on the ball than some other hyped up midfielders
The trouble is, though, when he starts every game his energy levels drop and he looks poor. He’s getting on. I actually thought the way the manager used him today was intelligent.

unfortunately it already was… and for some mad reason ETH thought Mount was the answer…

Our only proper ball playing midfielder. Brings composure and intelligence to our midfield.

Last season when he started next to a dogged Casemiro, we looked balanced. When he's not there, we look quite lost, regards our first phase build up. Doesn't help that half our backline is out, but he does allow us to move the ball through the lines.

It's a shame he's lost his legs, but the legs of Amrabat or hopefully a rejuvenated Casemiro, will help make up for that.

Thought he was very good. Way way better than Bruno on the ball.

I think Bruno should be dropped for him. Eriksen did more in his limited minutes than Bruno for the whole game. Bruno has been wasteful with possession ans mot controlling the game as we wanted. He should be relegated as subs to reflect on it and fight for his place back. However I dont think ETH has the balls to drop his captain. Holjund would have benefited fron Eriksen more.

Correct usage of him really. Sheff Utd put a lot into the first 35 , after that the space was opening, you could see Amrabat start to come into the game, possibly Eriksen gets rushed out of it if he starts. Maybe not, given how shit they were.

He came at the right time. Not sure, his effect is a bit overstated though. Sheffield clearly sat deeper at the end and we (finally) increased the overall pressure after all. Not just because of Eriksen. He has his uses and frankly, maybe he should take Brunos spot for a game or two but I am pretty sure, the effects wouldn't be too big.

Probably the best passer in the team to be honest, and clearly has more vision than the rest of our midfielders. Shame he's not 5 years younger.

He may be a bit slow but no-one in our team can control a game like Erikson can. Good cameo, we looked far better and he made players around him look better in particular Amrabat

Should be first name on the team sheet, he's miles better than any of our other midfielders.

Shows the type of player we’re missing when he doesn’t play. Just a shame he isn’t 5 years younger.

All we needed to do this summer was to bring in younger version of him, with the same type of technical qualities but with better athleticism and physicality. Instead we got Mason Mount. Sigh.

I honestly think this is a big reason we've gone wrong this season. He made a massive difference last season on the ball, and we played much worse football after he got injured. Now not only does he not play but he's been replaced by someone that just isn't that type of player.

His lack of an engine is a problem, and that along with his age is why he can't be the long term answer, but our inability to control any game without him is an even bigger one.

Only midfielder who actually believes in receiving the ball and passing it along to control play. Or rather, the only midfielder who does it in ETHs system

He seems to be the only player who is aware of what’s going on around him and therefore makes intelligent decisions. I would like to seen him get more time with Mount on the pitch.

I'd actually be all for benching Bruno and giving Eriksen the minutes. We're crying for someone with some semblance of composure, and at the moment Bruno offers none of that.

Very intelligent and technical footballer. Just a shame we got him so late that now we have to kind of mollycoddle him and not expose his weaknesses so much.

But the fact he's still substantially better than Mason Mount must show how shocking a decision that was to waste so much money. Not only that, to waste valuable time and initial funds in the window which boxes in what you can then do later on in the window. Shocking.

I wouldn't start him vs City as his shortcomings off the ball were exposed in those fixtures last season. Deserves a start vs Copenhagen though.

A classy footballer isn't he? When he came on the quality of our passing went up a notch in an instant. Just a shame he doesn't have the legs anymore.

Hope, We Lose
Came on and showed what a good first touch and enough quality to play the right passes in the buildup looks like. We didnt have that in the first half

He's becoming a super sub that always adds something new to the team when he comes from the bench. Far better than starting him.

His technical(passing) brilliance won us this game, along with Onana's heroic save.

The only intelligent central midfielder we have, shame we sold the only player who could play in his position.

Miles better with him. Need to find a version of him with legs. No one in the squad can replicate what he does.

Changed the game again…

It was so clear that replacing him with a younger version/style player with more athleticism was priority number 1 alongside a number 9.

and we just didn’t bother…. Can’t understand it.

integral to us playing good football, but will get monstered against good teams cos of his lack of athleticism.
