Eth has a simple task, find a midfield setup that covers for his lack of legs. That midfield probably doesn't include Bruno and McTominay but what do I know about football.

Changed the game again…

It was so clear that replacing him with a younger version/style player with more athleticism was priority number 1 alongside a number 9.

and we just didn’t bother…. Can’t understand it.

integral to us playing good football, but will get monstered against good teams cos of his lack of athleticism.
Yeah basically that. How our club with all the resources, stats and whatever else it should have available decided Mason Mount was what we were crying out for out of all the options out there will be forever baffling.

He's a quality player and always has been. Shame we didn't have him at his peak. Maybe better as an impact player for his creativity without the running.

Pure class. The only mf player with vision, great technique and passing.
Eriksen and Varane are two top players with great attitude we've signed too late unfortunately.

Absolutely baffling. It was clear to see even last season that he was the one that made our team clicking. He just couldn't last 90 minutes or play too much games sometimes struggling defensively.

What do we do? We buy Mason Mount.

I hope EtH realises that he needs to find the next Eriksen. Before then, he needs to surround the current one with legs and play him.

Absolutely no coincidence that our best performances came pre his injury and when he's on the pitch.

He has to play.

The player profile we should have signed instead of Mason Mount. Such a shame his legs are gone.

Sad to say, he is probably the only one player of our team that can do the basic passes right with ease and execution on a consistent basis. Until we find a replacement, we should build the team around him by having energetic midfielders to cover him so that he can utilise his energy and focus on creating chances. He did more than the combined chances of all other midfielders with less time on the pitch. That proves his efficiency and ability.

He’s one of the few players we have who doesn’t pass like a twat.

Does all the basics on the ball well, so much better than who he replaced and it's no coincidence we started being able to move up the pitch after that change.

Said if we want some creativity to bring him on. He's simply a beautiful passer of the ball, you can't replace that with typical players. We need top quality players like Eriksen of a younger age.

What is a shame is he's had some very good shots on goal in his time here, low and hard into he corner and the keepers have pulled off some crazy saves

Would be nice to see him with Case and Amrobat behind him. I feel we’d be a better team.

If he had legs he'd be perfect.

Most likely comes in against City and we get blown away after changing the game for us today.

Hes got his mojo back. I actually don't mind him playing with Bruno either.

We need to find a way to transplant his head onto a new body. Either that or get him some sort of exosuit. He can do things lots of things our other players can't do.

He’s 31 - some posters in here claiming his legs have gone  Modric was probably older when he lead Croatia to a world cup final.

He probably just needs a bit of rest now and then, but come on, his “legs are gone” sounds like he can barely manage a half. His tired look really does him no favour.

Some strange reasoning from ETH as to why we're not starting him more.

Something about the missing defenders being the ball players so therefore we need more runners in midfield to make up for the defenders who aren't all that great on the ball.

Erik, how about we play the better passers to make up for our poor passing? Crazy idea I know.

He’s a far better footballer then Bruno.

There. I said

I mean, he was never the most athletic player to start with. And he’s now in his 30’s and playing with a pacemaker after suffering a heart attack. It’s hardly a stretch to say he’s past his physical prime.

The issue is we needed to replace him in the summer with a younger, more mobile version, so that we could use him more carefully and sparingly. Instead, we signed Mason Mount. Who is more Jesse Lingard then Christian Eriksen.

Better than Mount in the midfield, the natural balance to play in a 3 man midfield or a pivot. Might lack legs but has enough quality in his overall game to be a difference. Again it just shows that the summer signings have been disproportionate to what the team needed to move forward.

Aside from his obvious quality and control he gives the team, his presence also means Bruno is more disciplined in both his positioning and decision making because he trusts Eriksen to do the job in a deeper role.

Not really. ETH seems to accept to build a team around Bruno and Rashford strength somewhere on second half of last season especially during the time Eriksen picked up the ankle injuries.

The plan seems to be more about trying to use Mount as an improved tidier Fred. Issue is not many players offer the type of relentless industrious pressing Fred has. Mount maybe good with his pressing in opposition half, but it's not the same as having Fred's determination to cause shadow in our own half. Also Fred maybe very erratic on ball, but he made himself available a lot for a pass.

Eriksen can give us control against certain opposition but he would leave us vulnerable against type of opposition would dominate both possession and physicality. We need a younger midfielder of his type, and should plan an attack without Rashford and Bruno. They're too erratic. Outside of top form, they can easily become burden to the team.

Mounts been dropped the last two games and Bruno is being shifted around everywhere. Not sure how that can be called the plan.

But aside from that you don't drop your best passer because some defenders are injured. The classic overthinking by a manager.

That he has to keep bringing Eriksen on kind of proves it.

Just get your ball players on the pitch and things will start to happen.

Not overthinking. Eriksen started against Nottingham Forests, Arsenal, Brighton, Bayern. We had some decent spell of possession with him, but ultimately we got overrun in midfield.

Eriksen has his own issue at his age. It's not simple as starting him when opposition is still fresh and we achieve same result. Opposition likely run him and us drag than him controlling the game for the better of us when some fatigue kick in forcing opposition pressing to ease up and Eriksen coming on in second half.

Bruno and Rashford were clearly first names on team sheet; but of course it fails. Shifting Bruno Rashford around is nothing new. ETH did that all last season.

Everyone's waxing lyrical about how he changed the game, which is all true. However, that chance Hojlund setup and he chose to place into the near post was inexcusable. He has to power it near post or place it into the far post.

What does he need to do to start a game? We have to bring him on nearly every time.

I get his flaws off the ball but he was one of the first names on the teamsheet last season and someone like McTominay who was half way out the door should not be playing over him.

His impact on our playing style is showing us why we went for the wrong kind of centre midfielder when we went with Mount.

We needed an intelligent midfield passer who doesn't get gassed after 60 minutes.
