You can see the general idea behind the system, but it’s clear that a) it badly needs a physical focal point and b) it asks a lot of the fullbacks/CDM since any mistake by the winger can lead to a clear 2v2 or 3v3 with how high the two 8s are staying up.

There will be quite a bit of growing pains.

Mount has been really, really good. That’s the positive. But we just haven’t clicked yet. The passing has been sloppy. Poor Garnacho has just produced a Bebe level performance in that first half. Need to bring on Sancho or Martial or him asap.
How does Boehly have money left over for propaganda trolls after all the money he's spending on players.

Poor. Attack is slow with poor decision making. Martinez looks off the pace. Garnacho certainly is. Mount has done little.

    AWB has been decent.

I suspect ETH will be happy to get them in at HT so he can ask them what the fcuk was that.

It is not just a few individual players , it is a collective lethargy. They need to get their heads and bodies in the game.

Hopefully he puts a rocket up them and we see some intensity in the 2nd half.

Garnacho is not a starter. Inn of the bench he can be world class, but I fail to remember a single game where he has started and done well.

Need more composure, everything just looks a bit frenetic and rushed both in and out of possession. Wolves also look a lot more physically ready than us and have bullied us.

Poor half all around. Our players seem to be on their heels.

Looking for a big improvement in intensity in the second. Second Half FC incoming!

    Dour. So slow.

Not sure why. Nerves? There’s no excuse for such a slow tempo.

No coordination, said this in pre-season there is no creativity from deep so we look a bit clueless against a low block.

Not to jump on mount but if we are going to lose the deeper creativity of Eriksen then Mount needs to provide more than just running.

Overall everyone looks rusty and a step below our rivals. Hopefully its just us getting up to speed.

    Hold me.
I know it is only just 45 mins in. But, everything is the same.
Spend tons of cash, get some hopes up, start the season trying to own the game, set the pace, impose ourselves, only to get out fought, out run, out smarted by some mid table team. Cheer me up will you!

Sleepy first half. Players look like they are tired (excet Mount, who looks full of energy)which is shoking at the start of the season. Garnacho wasteful, Martinez having a mare. Antony can't cross to save his life. We need a ST with good hold up play.

    - Weak decision making offensively
    - Casemiro not good enough in small spaces, which makes it difficult to play out from the back.
    - Most 50/50 duels lost.
    - Every dribbling attempt failed.
    - Garnacho. Wtf.

    - Ten Han looking angry and needs to take Garnacho off. Rashford on the left, and Sancho false 9.

For some reason, we seem very sluggish - always second to an open ball. Lads are running around like they have weights on their ankles, cannot get off their mark quickly enough.

We look completely overtrained. Everything is so slow and there's no movement.

Whatever ETH has done during pre-season is clearly not working

Very unimpressive stuff, as it usually is against Wolves. Their midfielders and forwards appear to have better close control than ours, with the exception of Antony. We look like an open spaces team, our players don’t have the intricacy or movement.

When we signed Mount I mentioned my concern that we would ultimately pigeonhole him in an unnatural position (deeper in midfield or out on the wing) in order to accommodate him and Bruno in the same team. Unfortunately it very much feels like that's what's going to happen.
I think it only works if the team is very high up the field, the problem is how the play gets to the phase. Three midfielders, one defensive orientated and the other two are not technically proficient (can't recycle the ball effectively). Bruno for all his creativity he isn't going to progress the play, he's the one to unlock the door after it. I said in numerous threads that the identification of the targets this summer have been questionable. Amrabat should never have been a player in addition to Mount it's either one or the other from a balance dynamic.

I'd like to see a lot more movement off the ball from Rashford, Mount, and Bruno. I don't get why they're standing and ball watching so much.

It’s bit scary to think we might not bring anyone else in.
We'll surely bring in a midfielder or two. I'd be shocked if we let the window close without signing decent backups/rotation options for Casemiro and/or Eriksen. Mount in midfield is only ever going to be an option against relegation fodder - he needs to be further forward where he's much more impactful.

Mount looks totally lost out there at the moment. Don't see where he fits in to what we want to do (which is unclear to me from that first half). Garnacho has had an awful 45 mins.

Bruno has played well. The rest have been very hot or miss. Mostly miss.

Concerning our attack looks just like last season
Bruno hasn't played well. He's played ok but stood out from the rest because they wouldn't be able to pass go on monopoly. By and large that was a 5/10 performance. We need to go up levels second half.

There was a big disconnect with our line. If we're going to use Bruno/Mount as #8s, we could probably try compressing them in their own field some more.

Garnacho was frankly terrible. Martinez looks out of sorts. And I worry Casemiro might be shot physically.

Hopefully we up the tempo in the 2nd half and get an early goal to ease the nerves. Way too slow and a lot of our players look way off the pace.

Been looking forward to this all weekend and all day at work and within 10 minutes all your enthusiasm is completely drained.

Don’t start with all the “negative” and “overreacting”, let’s call a spade a spade. That was embarrassingly poor.

What are the tactics? What are we trying to achieve? Where are the patterns in play? Where is the control of the ball.

How can you sit and watch that 45 and not be concerned.

Rashford only starting to wake up in the last 10 minutes of the half.
Another one who’s way off the pace.
Garnacho not getting any joy out of their FB and is trying too hard and making lots of mistakes.
Lead footed Shaw, Casemiro and Varane.
    It’s dire
Changes have got to come at HT.

Can we just get a midfielder who wants to get on the ball? Forget service to Rashford, only time even Antony has got the ball in the forward areas is when we have got it off a Wolves player.
