I saw Kane lining up on the right side at the start and thought 'hmm I wonder if they're going to kickoff and lump it to him'. And in fact they did and our entire back line looked like they just turned off. It is embarrassing .extremely.
Maybe your arse should have been in the prematch meeting telling the lads to watch for the lump to Kane. Jose obviously didn’t mention it.

They've scored the two flukiest goals you'll ever see. So irritating.
I dont think its pure fluke.
THe first goal - they actually came up with that plan. If you look closely , you can see 4 or 5 of their players ready to pounce and Kane running straight to Jones.
MOre than their goals, the issue is we were not able to react at all!
Hopefully, we can change that in second half and give them a hard game.

    1. United putting in a terrible performance when playing 4-2-3-1 against a good side should come as no surprise to anyone.
    2. Mourinho's decision to play shift Martial to accommodate Sanchez is laughably bad. If this was his plan for fixing our right wing then he's blundered badly.
    3. Jones is having another woeful performance that people will use to criticise Smalling.

The only good thing is that Chelsea is currently losing as well. Hope that result stays the way we're carrying on:rolleyes:

Why Sanchez, who has actually had a lot of success in his career, isn't palying on the right is beyond me, and the fact Jose still can't accept Pogba is not suited to a midfield 2 is baffling.
We're a midfielder short hence the reluctance to push Pogba forward. We need another CM in the summer.

Imo the big games are won in central midfield where today we have one man.

    Horrendous blunder by Jose.

It's a shame we keep employing that bloke with the Men In Black Memory Eraser to stand at the door to the dressing room every week.
It's annoying, I saw a lot of caftards being happy about the lineup but I sure wasn't. I felt nervous cause it was too open on paper. Really annoyed to have gotten the confirmation

We saw against Arsenal that Matic + Pogba was incredibly risky but here we go again anway..
Yeah, I really don't get it. It seems almost stupid. Sanchez will take a while to adjust to the team and the team to him, it's not as if we've got a star player who will instantly take loads of pressure of midfield. Jose is also having to shoehorn those attackers into the 4231 and it doesn't suit some of the forward players either. But quite clearly, against strong teams (especially those playing wing backs), it leaves our midfield exposed and thereby the defense.

It’s all fine - Alexis is about to turn it on and show these other bellends how it’s done, 3-2 hattrick hero

We can’t cope with their pressing. It’s so frustrating to see us pass 3-4 times when we get the ball and then like clockwork get it back to De Gea for him to hoof it up to no mans land.

Hardly Lukaku's fault to be fair. We never play the ball into his feet.
I think him dropping deeper to get on it now and again wouldn't be the worst thing, given Martial, Lingard and Sanchez are all capable of running off him and he's quick enough to get into the box when needed. While I accept it isn't Lukaku's fault I'd hope he's given more license to drop deep and get closer to the action, at the moment he's a passenger.

I'm kind of sad that I have no confidence in Mourinho doing great turnarounds like in the good old days with Fergie. You'd never discount us before the final whistle. Nowadays I hope for a draw at best when we go down.
When was the last time a Mourinho lead team came back from 2 down to win?

This game so far has showed why we aren't a title winning team. Never seen United win comfortably against a top team under Mourinho. We've looked dead and buried since Jones' own goal, at least after the first one we went offensive...

We don't know how this game would have went if Jones was able to do his job. The game plan went out the window and a spurs side that have been lacking some confidence have been reinvigorated through some poor play.

We are all blaming the midfield, but our two CBs look like an accident waiting to happen when on the ball and are being pressed on every single occasion. Plus how in sweet baby Jesus have Jones and Smalling looking so bad when spurs keep firing in long balls?
Forget the goals. Look at the game. I mean look at how we are being outplayed.

Agree. Our defenders have been horse shit against two teams in the PL till now. Man city and Spurs, both the teams who likes to press. Our defenders aren't capable of handling pressure and Jones is a bottler.

Where do the rules stand with forfeiting a game at half time? Are they as strict as the rules about starting in your own half?

Swap Sanchez and Martial. Get young and Jones off. Go 433 and let Pogba do what he's good at. All seem like really simple and obvious things. If they sit back we're screwed, we can't break down relegation fodder, luckily they're naive and will be desperate for Kane's 100th, so nicking a couple isn't beyond us. All we need is Jose to let us attack.[/QUOTE]

I get idea of changing formation. You should if you are losing badly. But Jose is not letting them attack with that line up?

The reality is that a number of our boys need to bring their A-game to this. Too many below par performances.

As soon as Martial was shunted to right I’m pissed off and expecting the worst. Our most consistent player in January has to move to allow our new player his preferred role. Then how we can go up against Spurs with two in midfield when we are generally not very good on the road or against the top 6 teams is a bad decision...especially considering Jose likes to keep it tight. We all know jones and Smalling have brain farts in them so let’s protect them, Young also showing why he is not a defender.
All I can see in second half is Martial being subbed for Rashford, who will do his best at running the ball out of play then Fellaini will be brought on for Lingard and we will just go route one. Spurs score again.

Alot of our problems stem from the fact we have 3 defenders playing that have not 1 jot of skill.
Can block..head....hoof like old school defenders but as soon as Spurs press our midfield it ends up back at our GK....

In these games Pogba is our 4th attacking player not one of our two midfielders, how many times are we going to loose the midfield battle in these games
As I said I'd have gone Fellaini in there instead of Lingard. I know that Lingard has been good but there are horses for courses.
I'd still make the move now.

You just know rather than the players coming out posessed in the 2nd half like they did in famous comebacks against Spurs under Fergie, under Jose we will come out playing the same shite before his only answer is throwing Fellaini on late on. I’m sick of these spineless performances in big games.

RedCafe's favored lineup = bad result

Should have gone with a midfield 3

Jones' mistake gets worse every time I see it

Lukaku has been useless and pointless

Pogba anonymous in another big game

I ll go with Herrera for Lingard as a minimum change in 2nd half and swap Martial/Sanchez..
I cant decide between taking Lukaku off for Rashford and taking Young out and get Shaw
And pray Jones doesnt make any more mistakes

The midfield have no chance when our 2 central defenders are poor at the best of times in giving them decent passes to work with without them having to come short and turn around then look for runners that are not there...

If we had Baily and Lindelof it would be a great improvement on that front. Lindelof needs to come on and give Pogba some decent passes to go and do his thing because we are being outnumbered there.

I was delighted to see utd lineup. Clearly lacking in midfield which I was confident we could benefit from. Big second half to come.

Fecking KDB closes down like a man possessed in every city game all the while having the highest assists in the league and smashing in goals too.

Pogba on the other hand having a jog in sunday league.

If this was the city team you could see them upping the intensity and on the contrary we have downed our tools and are now simply lumping it ahead.

    Done and dusted this match

Carrick worked when we had Rio and Vidic in defense and Ronaldo/Rooney up front.

Matic can't work with these clowns. He's slow, he's easily bypassed and his midfield partner is a headless chicken.

We need the 3rd man in midfield. Herrera needs to come on. Hopefully that will now prevent any negativity towards Mourinho when he plays a 3 man midfield against one of the top 6 sides.

We've looked like we have real potential going forward, Lingard, Martial and Sanchez look like they're not far from clicking and creating something deadly.

Lukaku for me just doesn't fit at the moment. Can't hold the ball up, can't flick the ball on, slow and lethargic on the turn, predictable with his turn and shot, hence they all get blocked. He needs some confidence.

I would have been if I were you tbh. This game screamed for a cautious approach and counter attack. Very unlike Mourinho this set up, like he wants to prove he isn't afraid in these games. Clearly many of our fans are a bit clueless too

Wait VAR couldn’t have been used for the first goal, so it would have stood. What’s the point in that?
Even if for VAR, our players should be more aware of their surroundings to not let that kind of goal happen.
