I’m worried that this is the sort of game in which our players give him the ball on the halfway line and he’s expected to beat five players for us to have any chance of a result. If it doesn’t come off, he gets pelters.
Yeah today it's gonna be rough for him.

He'll probably touch the ball twice in the opposition half. He'll spend most of the game chasing shadows and fulfilling his left back role while the few times he gets the ball in our own half he'll be faced with 5 players surrounding him.

It'll be rough for all of them looking at the starting 11. Better to stay away from the forum today.

Players will be shitted on left and right. Half time talks should be interesting.

Missing Pogba right now is quite irritating, was hoping with the few occasions we'd get on the ball we needed someone like Pogba to try and move it forward trying to find our forward players. Without him our forwards would be starved even worse than they would have been with Pogba in.

Agreed. Feel most sorry for Martial and Lingard today, won't be a fun day for them, especially without Pogba on the pitch.

It's part of his learning. Likes of Hazard can make some magic on their own even if their team is lacklustre. If Martial wants to be WC, he should show he can produce even on the occasions his team don't support him well enough.

Main difference is that Hazard in those situations will usually be isolated more up top to counter, Martial has to defend a lot more.

Not much came off for him today. Still saw a spark of the effort from recent weeks, needs a more sustained application in the longer term to be able to influence in tough games like this.

Tough game. Should be a quiet night for the Martial FC residents.

Is it me or is Martial reluctant to take on Walker? I noticed it also in the last game against City at OT Martial wouldn't take on him. Maybe he's aware of his pace so chose other options especially given we hardly get the ball against City and doesn't want to risk losing the ball.

Very tidy on the ball but no service or anything happening around him. Nice to Lukaku led to the penalty and he took it well.

Walker is too fast really. Horrible game for an attacker to be in without having any of the ball.

Difficult to play in this system. We are practically ambitionless.

Practically was asked to create something spectacular out of nothing and he actually ended up doing that. What a ridiculous pass that was for lukaku's foul and well taken penalty.

He lost his foil to attempt the breakthrough and just spent the whole time isolated or trying not to lose the ball.

Should’ve been left up top today while we tried something like a 3-5-2 to counter with pace.

I'm not gonna have too much of a go against any of our attacking players today, they were never given a chance to play, let alone play well. Tactics were just bad for them.

It's either they were chasing the ball from City players and defending deep or chasing long balls and hoof while trying to win flick ons. Not ideal way to play, anyone would struggle.

I feel sorry for him. The city forwards can waste numerous chances and he's left to feed off scraps.

I thought he played quite well, had total confidence he would score the pen. He and Pogba are our only hope, Tony should be on spot kicks full time also,

The bolded part especially which is why I feel bad for our attackers in this game. The tactics were so against them that the most they could do was try not to lose the ball because every time every single one of them got the ball they were isolated and swarmed by like 3-4 City players which ended up in them trying to keep the ball against odds.

This. Between him and Rashford, there were plenty of runs made that never got rewarded (no surprise without Pogba). I was glad to see him take the penalty at least, he seems to be so cool under pressure that he was the player I felt the least bit of tension about taking it.

It wasn't a good penalty though. Easy save if the keeper guesses the right way.

Tell me about it. I watch Sterling and Co constantly getting the ball in that final third and doing whatever they want while our guys were left busting their lungs chasing long balls and try to keep possessions while isolated against 3 or 4 city players surrounding them every time.

There’s no point stating the obvious really. Bottom line is more often than not in these affairs nowadays, only one team try to play football and it ain’t us. Sad state of affair really.

First half naff, second half a lot more composed
I thought he was pretty decent in the first half, probably our best player with Fellaini. He was the only one that looked composed on the ball and like he could make something happen. Was moving around looking like a player full of confidence commanding he get the ball.

He’s quite good when it comes to that quick tight passing.

Yes, alongside Pogba and Mata he's one of the few players on this team that can do quick and tight passing.

At least I get joy from seeing Martial killing it. We suck under Mou obviously, but take what joy you can. Will always be relatively happy seeing the likes of Martial and Rashford get chances especially when they do well.

City play football to hide the weakness of their defence and keep their attackers always moving on the front foot and in space. Every time one of our attackers got the ball they could only run into blind alleys. Coaching.

He just doesn't work hard enough to get himself in to games so games like this utterly pass him by.

I think you’re missing the point of what a good penalty is! Deceiving the keeper is what it’s all about, if you hammer the ball you’ve less control of it. He was cool as a cucumber.
Lad worked hard today, but really up against it. Hope he keeps the scoring run going and gets that new contract signed ASAP.

There was no deceiving of the keeper in my opinion. His head was down and his run wasn't disguised. A good penalty is one that can't be saved regardless of what the keeper does.

Yet produced the only piece of quality from the team with that pass through to Lukaku and the penalty
Which is fine, if you think he's an ordinary player. I think we all hope, and his talent suggests, he can be more than that.

First name on the team sheet for me. What is that 6 goals in his last 5? Mourinho is choking on his pride with this one.

Was little quiet today but took his chance well for the penalty. He will feel confident as long as he scores.

He can't do it all in his own. Our tactics hinder our attackers so much. If we had setup to attack a bit, I'm sure he'd have done a lot more.

Good, calm penalty. He was very poor in the first half, got a bit better in the second. Difficult to judge our attacking players, as we barely had the ball.
