I think he's rubbish and a weak link in the side.

Brilliant in a 1v1 situation, but that's it. He switches off all the time, and the less said about his ability with the ball the better.

Couldn't deal with Angelino at all.

You're telling me this is the most effort he could have put in and the best job he could have done at getting tight to Angelino and /or closing down this cross.. Really? It's a shit show all round but he can obviously do a lot, lot better.

Thats the 2nd goal. On that one he could have been closer and done better but like 95% of fullbacks do at some point in a game, the cross came in

We're talking about the 3rd goal where AWB wins the ball, it goes to Lindelof, Lindelof passes somewhat towards Pogba but its loose and Angelino wins it back. Then the ball comes back to Angelino, his cross is deflected, Maguire and DDG leave it to each other for some reason and the striker scores

Football isn’t for him. Can’t attack, can’t defend, can’t control a football, has zero positional or tactical awareness. Honestly can’t remember a player with worse footballing ability at the club before. Even with the likes of Bebe and Obertan you could see they had half an ounce of technical ability. This spoofer has nothing apart from last ditch sliding tackles, most of those completely avoidable if he doesn’t feck up in the first place.

Can’t believe the amount of admirers he has on here. ‘Best defensive full back in the world’ my foot.

1st goal was his fault as he just didn't seem aware of his man. Can't blame him too much for the second though. He tucked in and Angelino was quite wide when he received the ball.

I look at Matic in the middle ballwatching and wonder why nobody picked up the runner.

He and Ole should've learned though. This is exactly what happened against Brighton where AWB gave Trossard all the time and space in the world. We got lucky that game but not today.

He shouldn't have.
He tucked into a box being defended by 3 CB's and 2 DM's leaving the wing undefended. The assist came from a guy who was in 20 yards of space and had all the time in the world to control the ball and pick his spot. Him not sprinting out to the wing to put some pressure on the ball is the 2nd much lesser mistake

How the feck did we pay 50M for a fecker who cant defend and cant attack. Great at slidding and thats about it. Another one of Ole's brilliant signings along with Maguire and James.

It's been a year and a half now so I think it's fair to pass judgement on him, even though he's still quite young.

He's passable but he's not going to be good enough for a team competing at the top end of the Prem and latter stages of the CL. The fact reminds that he cost us £50m, is injury free and there are more important positions to replace first. All the talk about him is some defensive great, and yes no-one can question him 1 v 1 but he must be brain dead not to recognise the threats over his shoulder. It was the same against Brighton and it happened that many times that I honestly thought it was tactical, took in and let them have acres of space on the left.

The whole 'he just needs to improve going forward'. That simply won't happen, you can improve going forward somewhat but you can't go from a guy who can't dribble and looks so clumsy on the ball to a good attacking option, it simply won't happen. He's a weak link.

I don't think he will ever play this bad again. This was by far his worst ever game for us. Maybe his worst ever game in his career? He was drunk, I have no other explanation for what he was doing down there.

A horrendous night for AVB. Definitely needs competition or replacing to improve himself. Unlike a lot of people, I don't even think he's a good defender. There's more to defending than just being great at tackling.

Then beside AWB, let's look at Shaw in this sequence of play. He pressed high. When on his way back had to press Sabitzer a bit when the ball played in front of our defensively line. Now Shaw tried see what is going on, but he was lost. We had extra man in area where there it was not required while leaving Leipzig runner free.

Similar thing can be said about Maguire. He didn't need to follow Olmo there since Olmo was moving into Lindelof zone. Maguire holding his zone to pick up Forsberg, so Telles might have the chance pick up Haidara.

Lot of ball watching but failing to read the situation. Leipzig was very straight forward with their approach this game. Get it out wide, then cross it across our goal, yet we let it happen again and again this game despite having many defensive players.

We have an idiot in charge thats why.

We're always in for players who no other club wants for obscene amounts of money.

People are too emotional here.

AWB has given a lot of great/key performances (win against PSG for ex.) and I think he has been a very good signing (better than Maguire) but yesterday was indeed a complete failure on every level.

It's not the first time he's not covering his wing. We saw it against Brighton as well, when March was roaming free on his wing and getting the ball about five times in great positions near the box like Angelino did yesterday. Is this something that Ole tells him to do? This time it cost us two goals in the first 15min and AWB was the most frustrating player out there yesterday.

I get why he's getting the harrassment he does because this performance was inexcusable but i don't think it means he's a flop. The whole team should be sold by this standard. AWB has lost his stability which was one of his great assets last season.. Man Utd tends to affect players like that somehow.

Up there with Maguire's individual masterclass v Chelsea at Wembley last season.

I read on the beeb Ole is looking at bringing in Vazquez from Madrid who would be much more suited as a RWB with AWB still finding a role in a 4?

Ultimately i think AWB will end up at CB.

Bag of shit last night. But IMO still a good player. Can't attack to save his life, don't know if this is him or shite coaching....

I'll go with the latter

Doesn't matter who we bring in...our coach is clueless

Was pretty shit, but the ones blaming him for the 2nd goal needs to watch the replays again.

Hes the only one who even attempts to defend his area, everyone else is in a big fecking cluster and just ball watching while Leipzig casually rolls the ball out wide and when the ball does come in, not a single one of those idiots ran to the far post despite everyone being at that side

I wouldn't disagree with you, but its clear now we don't have the players at our disposal to play a 3, so Vazquez would add versatility to allow us to potentially line-up that way.

Of course, by line-up, i simply mean on paper.

God know's what edits are applied to said paper by Ole?

I think calling what he did an attempt at defending is hugely generous.

I mean I guess jogging over to someone who's in a dangerous position and dangling a leg out in a complete half arsed manner is I guess technically an attempt at defending... but it's not one that we should accept.

that really annoyed me. Angelino has 1 weapon and thats his left foot.

AWB should be sprinting to him and pressuring him, he'd never escape in a foot race. Frustrating that our players just amble over and let crosses come in like we'll clear them every time.

I like him but 18 months in or whatever and he hasn’t come close to learning how to defend the back post, is making a lot of individual errors and isn’t developing the attacking side of his game enough. It’s a worry.

Angelino was so wide that being closer to him would mean leaving a huge gap in the middle. That defensive "line" was one of the most disgusting things i've seen and at least AWB was attempting to cover some space there

No doubt one of the worst games hes had in a United shirt, but he was far from the only (or biggest) culprit last night

Makes sense. A player who has absolutely no positional awareness and whose win-rate in aerial duels is in the thirties being played as a CB where those two things are far more important than in his current position.

Makes perfect sense.

I'll go with the latter

Well said. He had an absolutely awful game last night, but so did pretty much every other player. AWB has been one of our better players over the last 12 months in my opinion. He's got his limits clearly, but then so do most other players, people slating him to this degree is crazy.

Our attack and midfield were both just as shite as AWB last night.

I just think we have more than our fair share of dumb footballers in our side.

Steady yourself there fella. I said "ultimately". We know AWB isn't the finished article, far from it in fact. Saying this, where is Lindelof's aerial duels percentage at out of interest?

Probably the worst I’ve seen him last night, there’s a better player there than what we saw still have hope for him..

He is kind of symptomatic for our whole team. From totally useless to worldclass tackles and back again within a few minutes time span. I still think that RB is not a position where we have to worry, I would try to get Williams to challenge for the spot.

Hopeless performance, why he took out Shaw and not AWB when Brandon came in is a serious question to ask.

Quite telling when both Scott and Pogba multiple times during the second half ignored the fact that AWB was all by himself on our right side when attacking and just passed it to the left instead, shows that they also knew that it would be hopeless to give him the ball since the chance of something happening offensively would be close to 0. Should have subbed on James who would have ran at Angelino and actually provided an attacking outlet.

He either need to improve his positional sense and offensive qualites or be replaced, hopefully Laird will come in and make the spot his own.

In the sixties, so around twice as high as AWB’s (while also having more attempts and typically it gets harder in the center cause strikers tend to be taller than left wings/left backs). And well, Lindelof gets criticized for not being good at that (he isn’t good at that), watching AWB there would be tragicomic.
